We use the UK NARIC (National Academic Recognition Information Centre) guidelines to make international comparison. 2) Hold GCSE Maths and English at C / 4 grade or above, or equivalent (numeracy or literacy at Level 2, such as Functional Skills, Learn direct etc

2 3) A completed Teaching and Mentor Hours form from your workplace which you will be provided with prior to our diagnostic event to confirm both of the above which provides evidence of: a. A minimum of 100 hours of teaching across the duration of the course (50 hours across each year of study for part time) during which you have full responsibility for planning, delivering and assessing specific area/s of the institution s provision. b. A Mentor in the workplace who is a qualified teacher/lecturer (i.e. PgCE) and where possible is a subject specialist in the same area as the trainee teacher. Where the mentor is not a subject specialist the trainee teacher will require the support of a named subject coach 4) A 500-word written piece, prescribed following application and returned to the ITE team prior to or at interview (for details please contact ITETeam@southessex.ac.uk). 5) Satisfactory initial assessment in literacy and math. You will be invited to one of our diagnostic events where you will undertake a 1 hour online diagnostic assessment at L2 for both English and Math. Applicants are expected to achieve a score of 50% in order to be made an offer onto the course. Therefore, we encourage you to do some revision prior to this session. You will find GCSE revision guides or functional skills books at level 2 suitable. 6) Work placements within an educational or community environment will require an enhanced DBS check. If NARIC deem your English language qualification not to be equivalent to a GCSE grade C or above, you must hold an IELTS qualification with a minimum score of 7 in each element. Credit transfer and accreditation of prior learning or experience: There will be provision for accreditation of prior experiential learning (AP(e)L) through credit being given to prior achievement. This will be reviewed on a case by case basis and will be managed through the college s AP(e)L policies. The support for subject specialism is provided through subject specialist mentors which will be a significant element in the programme at all stages of the trainee s progress and includes guidance and supervision of all aspects of the trainees work. If a subject specialist mentor is not available both a specialist coach and mentor are made available at the required level of teaching. Mentors will provide support, advice and guidance on the development of both subject specialist knowledge and skills and personal skills and attributes, as well as contributing to the assessment of practical teaching.

4 Mentors receive the option of face to face training and online training along with regular opportunities to meet and feedback to the core delivery team on the trainees progress at least three times a year. Academic, study support and monitoring is undertaken by members of the teaching team through the tutorial system. Close collaboration between the teaching team delivering the taught elements and the mentors and managers in the work place will allow a balance and integration of practical and academic, generic and specific skills and knowledge. Independent learning: Students on the PGCE are required to undertake their own teaching practice either within an employed (Part-Time) or voluntary (full-time) context. Students are expected to undertake independent study and CPD activities throughout the programme. A VLE is used to capture submissions, provide students with resources and support collaboration. Overall workload: Level 6: Each module is comprised of 150 notional hours which is a blend of classroom study (4hrs per week), independent study, tutorial & mentorship, coursework development, observation preparation, online and independent CPD, teaching practice / placement and professional activities. Assessment & Feedback Assessment A range of appropriate assessment methods will be utilized to ensure that learners can demonstrate that they have met the learning outcomes. Assessment methods on the programme include: practical observations, practice portfolios, written tasks, research tasks, presentations and reflections. Percentage of the course assessed by coursework Year 1 75% Course, 25% Practical Observation & Reflection, the first four modules are weighted as 40% of the programme. Year 2 75% Course, 25% Practical Observation & Reflection, the first four modules are weighted as 60% of the programme. Feedback Students on the programme will receive verbal and detailed written feedback following an observation with 5 working days of the observation taking place. Students will also receive detailed script annotations, feedback, clarification on learning outcomes achieved and guidance as to how to progress for each module in line with the college s assessment policy.
