1 Honors Integrated Math 1 Integrated Math 1 Check with specific school Students will have homework daily. Projects incorporated more frequently. These are often completed outside of class time. The projects relate math to applicable real world experiences. Students will have homework daily One to two projects per year assigned and some class time is given to complete them. Math Writing/Reading We follow the curriculum of Carnegie s Integrated Math 1 textbook. Algebra 1, Geometry, Statistics and some Algebra 2 concepts are covered. The content is occasionally supplemented with subjects and topics beyond those included in the textbook. Students in this course have the opportunity to take AP Calculus their senior year. Students will have homework daily, however typically not on test days. Math Writing/Reading We follow the curriculum of Carnegie s Integrated Math 2 textbook. Geometry and Algebra 2 concepts are covered. The content is occasionally supplemented with subjects and topics beyond those included in the textbook. 3 Pre-AP/AP/ Below is a comparison of the Pre-AP/AP/Honors classes to grade level classes for the school year. Pre-AP Civics/Geography Civics/Geography Assignment Students complete a series of lessons as an introduction to the first chapter. It is expected that students will be ready to start the school year with this knowledge. This information should also be a review and continuation of the concepts learned in 8th grade. Students will have homework daily, often even on test days. At least one homework quiz will be given each week in regards to the content taught and assigned At least one project per unit is assigned These are often completed outside of class time. The projects relate to civics or geography and the unit of study Civics Most reading is done individually by the student at home. The expectation is that students read at home and then are ready for discussion in class. Historical document analysis will be done both inside and outside of class All three units will be taught, typically at a quicker pace. Students will be challenged to take positions and develop their opinions regarding different subjects and issues while supporting their beliefs with historical documents and facts. Students will be expected to prepare for geography quizzes outside of class. An average of 1-2 assignments per week are given to be completed outside of class. One project per unit will be assigned requiring some outside of class work. Students will be given time to read documents in class. More difficult readings will be read together as a class and discussed. Three core units are taught: Constitutional Underpinnings, Constitutional Principles, Governing Bodies Geography Most reading is done individually by the student at home. The expectation is that students read at home and then are ready for discussion in class. Map quizzes and tests will be given, correct spelling of all locations is expected All five units will be taught, typically at a quicker pace. Students will oftentimes be presented with current issues and will be challenged to make decision and address solutions to the issues that are discussed. Map quizzes and tests will be given, spelling does not count. Five core units are taught: Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America. 4 Honors English 9 English 9 Check with specific school Reading Writing Class time is given to get started on most assignments. Depending on the unit, homework is usually given every night. Most reading is done individually by the student at home. The expectation is that students read at home and then are ready for discussion in class. There are multiple times a year where students will have a short amount of time (1-2 weeks) to read a novel. Students are asked to write multiple essays (3-4 paragraphs) per quarter. Most essays are given one class day to get started with a due date of the next class period. Focus on preparing the student for college & career Preparation for Pre-AP 10, AP Language (11th grade), & AP Literature (12th grade) Weighted credit- standard grade plus.5 Colleges look for AP/rigorous courses on transcript Most assignments are done in class. The majority of homework given is reading. Some reading is done individually, but more difficult passages are done as a class. There are multiple times a year where students will have a short amount of time (1-2 weeks) to read a short novel. Students are expected to write one, five paragraph essay per quarter. Some shorter writing assignments are given. Students are usually given two class periods to work on essays. Focus on preparing the student for college & career Preparation for English 10, English 11, & English 12. Provides a smooth transition into high school courses.

5 Honors Biology Biology Assignment Biology Depth of Check with specific school Students will have homework daily, often even on test days. will vary in the amount of time needed to complete, however at times may take up to minutes. Students often required to master content individually outside of class time. A wide variety of reading material will be completed by each student outside of class. Curriculum will be presented at an accelerated pace. It will be necessary for students to work diligently and efficiently to individually master introductory content. No support resources will be used when taking an assessment. Students should have a strong work ethic, good study habits, and be self-disciplined. In depth analysis of molecular concepts will be covered. The same units will be covered as in Biology, however at a much greater depth and a quicker pace. Focus on preparing the student for college & career Preparation for AP Biology. Weighted credit- standard grade plus.5. Colleges consider AP/rigorous courses on transcript during admissions process. An average of 1-2 assignments per week are given to be completed outside of class. Students will be given time to read most textbook assignments in class. Occasionally outside reading will be assigned. Most learning activities are teacher directed. Direct teacher support of all introductory content. Support resources often used when taking assessment. Introduction to molecular concepts. The same units will be covered in Biology. Focus on preparing the student for college & career Provides a smooth transition into high school courses.
