3 CANVAS (Online Classroom) While our course meets face-to-face several times per week, we will be "web-enhancing" the course by using the Canvas classroom. Canvas allows you to submit assignments, review feedback, and check your scores. You can access Canvas from the Pierce College website ( by clicking Shortcuts, then ecampus/canvas Login. Assignments & Late Work Written Handwritten assignment s will not be accepted. All assignments must be either typed or scanned for submission. ACADEMIC HONESTY As a Pierce College student, you are expected to comply with the Pierce College Student Code of Conduct. This code states that students are subject to disciplinary action as a result of conduct violations, including academic dishonesty. Academic dishonesty is defined as plagiarism, misrepresentation of self or student work product or representation of work of others as your own, cheating, or other acts of academic dishonesty. You are expected to take responsibility for your own work. Cheating, plagiarism, and other acts of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated in this course. Student work that violates the code will earn 0 points. Any subsequent incidents of academic dishonesty may result in a failing grade for the course. I will report academic dishonesty to the Dean of Student Success. A full list of possible disciplinary sanctions is outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. All assignments will be submitted through Canvas, our online learning management system, by 11:59 pm on the due date. Late work can be submitted up to one week (7 days) late for 50% of the points you earn. There is no extra credit in this course unless instructor deems appropriate. 5 TYPED PAGES & FORMATING INFORMATION Typed assignments must be completed and submitted in Microsoft Word in 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins, and a standard single- spaced header at the top left with your name, the course/item, instructor, the date, and name of assignment. Your First & Last Name College 110, Section #9xxx Professor Stanley Williams Month/Day/Year Assignment Name Assignment text should be double-spaced and typed in 12-point Times New Roman font. The header is the only part of the paper that is single-spaced and it should only appear on the first page. Create a cover page based on the example that I have placed at the bottom of the Modules link in Canvas. It will demonstrate all of the details that I'm looking for. SAFETY & EMERGENCIES In the event of an emergency, call 911 and then Campus Safety. Save both of these numbers in your cell phone: (253) Puyallup (PY) Safety, (253) Ft. Steilacoom (FS) Safety. In the event of inclement weather, check the Pierce College website, local news/radio reports, or call (253) (PY), (253) (FS) for a recorded message about whether or not campus is open. If you are unable to attend class, you are responsible for any material that you miss. If you know in advance that you will miss class, please do me the courtesy of sending me an or Canvas message ahead of time. When you have to miss class, I recommend identifying a partner who can share notes with you. Keep in mind that due to the nature of our course activities, some in-class work cannot be made up. 6 COURSE FORMAT & OVERVIEW My teaching style promotes student interaction and dialogue. In this course, not only will you do individual reading, writing, and reflecting, but we will also have conversations with one another. You can expect me to be invested in your learning and growth during this course. I expect you to take responsibility for your learning and growth during this course. You should arrive to class prepared, ready to participate in conversations, and ask any questions that you may have. A note about civility: The classroom is a special place where students and teachers come together to learn and grow. It is essential that the classroom be a place of respect, courtesy, and civility. Please be mindful of the effect your words have on our classroom community. Significant and/or continued disruptive behavior prevents us from meeting our course outcomes and may result in disruptive students being asked to leave the classroom. GRADING Your grade will be based upon your attendance, participation (e.g., completing in-class notecard activities, journals, worksheets, and positively contributing to group discussions) and completed homework. I will use the point/percentage table below to calculate the grade you have earned. I encourage you to pay attention to the scores posted in Canvas so that you can keep track of your progress in the course. I aim to grade student work within 10 days.
