13 DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSION (DSA) To allow our schools to have greater flexibility to recognise a more diverse range of achievements and talents. In turn, we want to encourage students to put more effort into activities and pursuits that they have special interest or talent in. The selection will be based on their achievements and talents before the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results are released.

Photocopy all the certs ready so that office can help certify true copies. Once you have received the holistic report, need to check thoroughly if anything is amiss or reported inaccurately. IMPORTANT Please inform your FTs early

20 Students who have opted for DSA must achieve PSLE results that would enable them to be eligible for their opted DSA-Sec schools. Students admitted through DSA-Sec Exercise will not be allowed to participate in the annual Secondary One Posting Exercise. Students admitted through DSA-Sec Exercise will not be allowed to transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results.
21 How parents can support the school s efforts Take an interest in your child s schoolwork Ask: What homework do you have today? Check the student handbook & homework file Look through your child s homework: Are the answers neat and clearly-presented? Are the corrections done? What are the teachers comments? What are the kinds of errors that my child tends to make?
22 How parents can support the school s efforts Reinforce the school s expectations of the quality of work expected (PSLE standards: rigour and neat presentation), e.g. Maths captions and answer statements with the correct units
23 How parents can support the school s efforts Provide a conducive environment for study and for the attempt of practice papers within the prescribed time ** Monitor your child s use of social media and Whatsapp
24 Absence and punctuality Curriculum time is precious. Students and parents should honour the time and effort teachers have put into planning lessons. Absence from school Valid reasons for absence from school: Illness: please attach a doctor s note or write a note to the form teacher Participation in external exams or competitions (parents should seek permission from the Principal and Vice-Principals at least a week in advance.) Reasons that are not valid: We do not approve of absence from school for the above reasons. Birthday celebrations of the child or family members Vacations or overseas family reunions
