1 Praxis Core For Dummies Errata May 29, 2015 Chapter 3 p. 23: The stem and leaf plot for questions 5 through 7 should have an indicator under the plot that says 5 9 = 59. p. 32: The answer to question 20 is (B). The number that is discussed is correct, but it is incorrectly said to be Choice (C). Chapter 4 p. 38: The four bullets regarding integers should be: * Subtracting a number is the same as adding its opposite, and adding a number is the same as subtracting its opposite. * If an even number of negative numbers are multiplied or divided, the product is positive. If an odd number of negative numbers are multiplied or divided, the product is negative. * To add two numbers with the same sign, add their absolute values and give the sum the same sign that both numbers have. * To add two numbers with opposite signs, subtract the smaller absolute value from the greater absolute value and give the difference the sign of the number with the greater absolute value. p. 38: The last paragraph on the page, which begins with the sentence, Therefore, the answer is 48 should be entirely replaced with the following paragraph. Therefore, the correct answer is 48. Choice (A) is not correct because 48 is a positive number. You could forget to multiply by 2 and overlook a negative sign for one of the other integers and get Choice (B). Doing that and adding 1 would result in Choice (D), but what is described in the explanation would result in the number 49. Choice (E) would result from not multiplying by one of the 2 s. p. 40: Divisibility Rules table. The example column for the number 5 should include the following numbers: 25; 360; 40; 195 p. 41: In the first paragraph, the second to last sentence should read: You can also use long division to determine whether each number is a multiple of 3 by seeing whether 3 goes into it a whole number of times, but that takes longer.

2 p. 41: The second sentence of the second to last paragraph says, Multiplying the factors will give you a multiple, It should say, Multiplying the factors will give you a common multiple, p. 43: In the paragraph right before the example is the phrase simplifying the numbers. It should be simplifying the fractions. The numerator and denominator are numbers that are discussed on individual bases, and the current wording suggests that each can be simplified individually in all cases. p. 46: In the explanation, the statement regarding choice (D) should be and Choice (D) is the numerator of one of the fractions over the sum of the denominators. p. 47: Right before the second Remember the equation should be = X 100% = 58.9%. p. 48: The last few words of the last sentence of the first paragraph should be replaced with, by multiplying by 100%. p. 51: In the first example, Choice (A) should be 15/2, -2, 5, 7, 9. Choice (B) should be 9, 5, 7, -2, -15/2 p. 54: * In the second to last sentence in the paragraph that follows the table, the phrase not in ways that mere suffixes are sufficient should be not in ways that mere prefixes are sufficient. * The formula in step 2 at the bottom of the page should be 12(12 inches) = 144 inches. p. 55: Explanation at bottom should say, Choice (C) is the number of cups that would result p. 57: In the explanation for question 3, in the second sentence, the list of decimals that follows the colon should be: 3.333, , , and Chapter 5 p. 61: The last sentence on the page should be as follows: To use FOIL, multiply the first, outer, inner, and last terms separately, and then add their products together (according to the rules for combining terms) in the same order. p. 70: In the step list at the bottom of the page, Step 3. The sign in the inequality should be >. p. 71: Under the Graphing Inequalities heading, the first sentence of the second paragraph should say, place a circle on the line at the point representing the boundary of the solution. p. 72: In the third paragraph under the Using Reverse FOIL heading, change the first sentence to, On the Praxis Core exam, you won t run into a situation where you ll need to use reverse FOIL to factor an expression in which the largest exponent is greater than two, except perhaps when you have already taken out a common factor.

Chapter 6 p. 85: * In the first paragraph, the last word of the second to last sentence should be complementary. * The complementary angles diagram has an extra segment below the horizontal line that is unnecessary and makes the answer indefinite. * The middle paragraph, second sentence should say, if you have two intersecting lines, you always have two pairs of vertical angles. p. 91: In the first paragraph, the last full sentence should be, For the following two triangles, the scale factor for left triangle to right triangle is 2:1, or 2/1. p. 93: The first sentence of the tip should begin, Even if the answer to a question has π in it p. 96: The third sentence of the first full paragraph should say, Because the base of a cone is a circle, half the base perimeter times the slant height is πrl p. 98: Under Coming together: Shapes that have joined without an invasion, the last sentence of the first paragraph should be, Just add the areas or volumes of the figures to find the total. p. 102: The second sentence of the second full paragraph should say, Its x-coordinate is half-way between the two points x-coordinates and its y-coordinate is half-way between the two points y- coordinates. p. 105: In the graph, the point ( 1, 2) is correctly mentioned but incorrectly plotted at ( 2, 1). p. 107: * The label of the first triangle should be Triangle. * The label of the second triangle should be Triangle.

Choice (A) should be 60. Chapter 15 p. 298: For question 7, the correct answer is (B) 20.

5 p. 299: For question 13, the last few words of the explanation should be the nearest whole number, is 260 cm^2. p. 308: The correct answer to Question 7 in the Mathematics section is B Chapter 16 p. 342: For question 44, the answer choices should be (A) (-6, 11) (B) (-7, 3) (C) (6, -11) (D) (2, -3) (E) (2, 10) Chapter 17 p. 374: For question 15, the correct answer is (C) The middle part of the explanation should be Then put the numbers in order from greatest to least: 18, , 17.8, 17.77, 17.7, p. 378: The Question 44 explanation should be C. (-6, 11) The coordinates of the given image are (3, 7), (11, 6), (10, 2), and ( 3, 2). To find the new coordinates after a 90 degree rotation counterclockwise about the origin, swap the order of coordinates in each pair (making the x-coordinate the y-coordinate and vice-versa) and find the opposite of the new x- coordinate. The coordinate pairs in this case become ( 7, 3), ( 6, 11), (2, 10), and (2, 3). You can rule out the answer choices that contain any of these coordinate pairs, leaving choice (C). p. 381: The correct answer to Question 15 in the Mathematics section is C
