2 Part II Course Details 1. Abstract (A 150-word description about the course) The course aims to give an overview of the state-of-art construction information technology (Construction IT) systems; address not only "what" are available but also "why" they are beneficial and "how" they can be applied to the construction industry; and demonstrate the principles of construction IT applications by a selection of sample applications. 2. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs) (CILOs state what the student is expected to be able to do at the end of the course according to a given standard of performance.) No. CILOs # Weighting* (if applicable) Discovery-enriched curriculum related learning outcomes (please tick where appropriate) A1 A2 A3 1. apply the principles of construction IT applications; 2. apply knowledge of current IT best practice in the construction industry 3. develop appropriate IT systems enabling improvement and efficiency in the construction processes, and 4. explain the advantages of IT being applied to different stages of the construction project. * If weighting is assigned to CILOs, they should add up to 100%. 100% # Please specify the alignment of CILOs to the Gateway Education Programme Intended Learning outcomes (PILOs) in Section A of Annex. A2: Ability Develop the ability/skill needed to discover/innovate/create, as demonstrated by students possessing critical thinking skills to assess ideas, acquiring research skills, synthesizing knowledge across disciplines or applying academic knowledge to self-life problems. A3: Accomplishments Demonstrate accomplishment of discovery/innovation/creativity through producing /constructing creative works/new artefacts, effective solutions to real-life problems or new processes. 2

Tutorial Mass Lecture on discussing Areas of applications, including Computer-Aided Design and Drafting, Building Visualization, Design Appraisal, Project Management, Information Storage and Retrieval, Accounting and Estimating, Structural Analysis, On-site Management, Facilities Management, Web-based Project Management Systems, Electronic Tendering and E-commerce, BIM, etc In class discussions and activities on problems related to lecture themes. Construct IT For Business has been set up to coordinate and promote innovation and research in IT in Construction in the UK to improve competitive performance of the UK construction industry and to act as a catalyst for academic and industrial collaboration.
