In cntrast t analg electrnics, where infrmatin is represented by a cntinuusly varying vltage, digital signals are represented by tw discreet vltages r lgic levels. This distinctin allws fr greater signal speed and strage capabilities and has revlutinized the wrld s electrnics. Digital electrnics is the fundatin f all mdern electrnic devices such as cellular phnes, MP3 players, laptp cmputers, digital cameras, high definitin televisins, etc. The majr fcus f the DE curse is t expse students t the design prcess f cmbinatinal and sequential lgic design, teamwrk, cmmunicatin methds, engineering standards, and technical dcumentatin. Utilizing the activity-prject-prblem-based (APPB) teaching and learning pedaggy, students will analyze, design and build digital electrnic circuits. While implementing these designs students will cntinually hne their interpersnal skills, creative abilities and understanding f the design prcess. Digital Electrnics TM (DE) is a high schl level curse that is apprpriate fr 10th r 11th grade students interested in electrnics. Other than their cncurrent enrllment in cllege preparatry mathematics and science curses, this curse assumes n previus knwledge. The curse applies and cncurrently develps secndary level knwledge and skills in mathematics, science, and technlgy. 3 COMPUTER USE POLICY: We are dealing with a highly equipped prfessinal cmputer lab. The machines yu will be using this semester are state f the art, prfessinal grade. Cmputer misuse f ANY kind will nt be tlerated. Each student will be assigned a specific cmputer fr the entire year; this means yur cmputer will be yur respnsibility when yu are using it. Any damages r prblems must be reprted at the beginning f class r as sn as they happen s it may be dcumented. If there is anything wrng with yur machine when yu turn it n, REPORT IT! GRADING POLICY: Student prgress will be evaluated in the fllwing areas: Final Exam... 15% Summative Assessments... 45% Frmative Assessments... 40% EXPLANATION OF ASSESSMENTS Students will be graded using a variety f methds bth summative and frmative. The summative assessment may include daily and weekly quizzes, and tests. The frmative assessment may include class assignments, prject and prgram assignments. In additin, the student must cmplete a prtfli, a reflectin f his/her experiences as part f the final assessment. RESUBMISSION OF ASSIGNMENTS It is my expectatin that all wrk and prjects submitted are f the highest quality and fully meet the standards and bjectives f the assignment. Assignments may be resubmitted as many times as necessary in rder t meet these expectatins. After the riginal submissin the maximum pssible grade will be an 85% and will decrease by 5% with each subsequent submissin f the assignment. Students have seven days t return their crrected assignment frm the day it was graded. In rder fr this t be applicable, the riginal assignment must be turned in n time and cmpleted! Any wrk nt submitted n time will nt be cllected and will receive a zer. Yu will have seven days t resubmit assignments frm the time they were returned t yu. *In accrdance with Cunty Plicy, any summative grades may be resubmitted as many times as necessary. DAY TO DAY PROCEDINGS OF DE Each day will begin with a review f the daily bjective, this is the guide that students will fllw t be successful each day. Essential questins will nt be given n a daily basis, hwever, they will be given at the beginning f each lessn. Students are expected t turn in their essential questins at the cnclusin f the lessn. The instructr is nt respnsible fr lst r stlen class wrk; all wrk can be saved t the LMS, flash drive, r yur lcal netwrk space. MAKE UP WORK It is the student s respnsibility t cntact the teacher fr missing wrk stemming frm absence, sprts, r missed classes. The expectatin is fr the student t cme t the teacher fr their missing assignments upn their returning t class. COLLEGE CREDIT Cllege credit is available thrugh Rchester Institute f Technlgy. T qualify, students must earn a stanine scre f 6 r higher n the end-f-year exam and an verall scre f 85% in the curse. The cst
4 fr each curse is $200 and each curse is wrth three semester credits. Credits are transferable t ther clleges and universities thrughut the cuntry, subject t the transfer plicy f that institutin. ATTENDANCE POLICY Yu are expected t be in class n time each day. The first ffense will result in a warning, as well as being marked late. The secnd ffense will result in a call hme, as well as being marked late. The third ffense, yu will be dcumented late, and yu will serve detentin. STUDENT EXPECTATIONS My expectatin is that yu as a student, cnduct yurself in a prfessinal and mature manner. Yu are expected t take ntes in class when yu decide they are necessary. Yu will be respnsible fr all infrmatin that will be reflected n quizzes and exams. Students are expected t take gd ntes that will facilitate their understanding f curse cntent. It is my gal that students retain this infrmatin by taking ntes. Students are welcme t ask questins during and after lectures, hwever, if questins are asked abut infrmatin that was cvered in a lecture, pints will be taken ff f the assignment which accmpanies that lecture.
