Overview of the Digital Testing System The Digital Testing System delivers College Board s online tests. College Board provides a sandbox environment for students to become familiar with the digital test delivery system and its available features, and for proctors to experience administering a digital test before test day. The Digital Testing System offers the following sites in its sandbox. These sites function identically to the operational testing applications: TA Interface Practice site: Allows proctors to practice administering tests. Use any supported web browser to access the TA Interface Practice site. Student Digital Test Preview: Allows students to practice taking tests online and using test tools. Students can use a supported web browser or the CB Secure Browser to access the Student Digital Test Preview as guest users. Students can also sign in to a Student Digital Test Preview test session created by a proctor. The TA Interface Practice site and Student Digital Test Preview are accessible from the College Board Digital testing portal, digitaltesting.collegeboard.org. The Student Digital Test Preview is for users to become familiar with College Board s Digital Test Delivery System only. For official SAT practice, students should visit College Board s practice site with Khan Academy. 5
How to use this guide: This document provides guidance for two scenarios described below: Scenario A Student Self-Guided Preview In this scenario, students access the Student Digital Test Preview as a Guest user and proceed through the Preview at their own pace. The Student Digital Test Preview is accessible from school and home through the College Board s digital testing portal. The student only needs to use a device with internet access and a supported web browser. Scenario B Proctor-Guided Preview The Proctor-Guided Preview is a timed testing experience which allows a proctor to create a digital test session, approve students into the test, and approve students into a test (e.g., Reading Test.) In this scenario, teachers or proctors will log into the TA Interface Practice site and generate a Session ID. Students must access the Student Digital Test Preview via the CB Secure Browser previously installed on their device or the Student Digital Test Preview site via the digital testing portal. To administer the Test Preview, the proctor must use a device equipped with a supported browser and internet access. Proctors must also log in to the TA Interface Practice site using the same credentials created by the test coordinator for the Test Administration site. 6
Scenario A: Student Self-Guided Preview For students to participate in a self-guided experience of the Digital Test Preview, they must access the Student Digital Test Preview from the digital testing portal. Students may access the preview from any supported device and from any location with internet access. Step 1: Students Access the Student Digital Test Preview Online 1. In a supported web-browser, navigate to the digital testing portal digitaltesting.collegeboard.org. 2. Click the button to Preview the Student Digital Test Experience. The login page appears. 3. Sign in as a GUEST: a. Ensure both Guest User and Guest Session are toggled as ON. 4. Click Sign In. The student will be entered into the Preview and can navigate the sample test independently. Students should be encouraged to view the test preview in its entirety. Students who will be taking the test with accommodated test settings (e.g., color contrast, TTS, etc.) should also have the settings turned on in the preview to simulate their test day experience. For information about the tools and how to use them, students should review the Help Guide and Test Settings screen which is available upon sign-in and throughout the preview by clicking on the question mark in the upper right-hand of the browser. For a description of the student testing tools, please see Appendix A which can be printed and shared with students. 7
Scenario B: Proctor-Guided Preview In this scenario, a proctor will administer the Student Digital Test Preview with a timed test experience. To administer the Student Digital Test Preview in a proctored mode, the participating proctors must have log-in credentials to the TA Interface, created by the test coordinator in TIDE. Administering the Proctor-Guided Preview with students is optional and can be administered within a typical class period. Note: Accessibility software must be certified for use with the test delivery application. Assistive technology devices can be tested using the Student Digital Test Preview through a Secure Browser as a method of determining if a device works with the assessment. In addition, schools and districts can use the Student Digital Test Preview through the Secure Browser to evaluate devices to ensure their functions are consistent with those allowed by the College Board Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD). This Session has ended as the time for this session has expired. Please click [Ok] to continue. [Message Code: 13356] Once you stop a test session, you cannot resume it. To resume testing students, you must start a new session. To stop a test session: 1. In the upper-right hand corner, click the Stop sign. A confirmation message appears. 2. Click OK. The test session stops. 25
Reaching the End of a Test When the student has reached the end of the test, the End Test page becomes available. This page allows students to review answers and submit the test for scoring. A flag icon appears for any questions marked for review. A warning icon appears for any unanswered questions. When testing time has elapsed, the student will be exited from the test and returned to the sign-in screen. Accidentally Closing the Browser Window If you accidentally close the browser while students are testing, your session remains open until it times out. To return to the test session in the TA Site, you must re-enter the site with your log-in credentials and enter the active Session ID. If you do not return to the active session within 20 minutes and there is no student activity during that time, the Digital Testing System logs you out and pauses the students tests. 26
