1 KING CUNTY FFICE F EDUCATIN CURRICULUM/ACADEMIC CACH- TEM (cience, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) JB UMMARY Under the supervision of the assigned administrator, the Curriculum/Academic Coach will provide leadership, expertise and support at the school site level for the full implementation of Math and cience standards grades 3-8. ervices provided will support the goals and objectives of the California Math Partnership Grant and will be supplementary to the district s base line program. In addition to supporting the teachers in math and science instruction, the Academic Coach will also teach and model the use of 21 st Century learning tools in the classroom environment and assist in designing lessons and learning opportunities that help students develop learning and thinking skills, including: Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills; communication skills; creativity and innovation skills; collaboration skills; contextual learning skills and information and media literacy skills. This position is grant funded and is under the direction and coordination of the grant project director. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIN Knowledge of: Next Generation cience tandards; Common Core tate tandards Mathematics; The use of technology as a tool to advance student achievement primarily connected to core content standards; Accepted practices of curriculum development and lesson design, assessment, classroom management, and English Learner instruction strategies; Effective teacher coaching methodologies; Mathematics and science core curriculum materials, instructional pacing guides and researchbased lesson design; Accepted and effective techniques and strategies for working collaboratively with other teachers, site administrators and students; trategies for providing differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs of students, including pecial Education students; Formative and summative math and science assessments and application of data findings in instructional planning; Research based instructional strategies that engage students and maximize conceptual learning; Instructional technology (IT) devices, applications, and strategies for classroom use. Ability to: Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and adults contacted in the course of work; Communicate effectively with staff and community; Write quickly, succinctly and accurately; Analyze student achievement data and make effective decisions and recommendations on instructional practice; Provide relevant and accessible teacher training for 3 rd grade through 8 th grade content; Conduct demonstration lessons, coaching observations, and provide next step support for teachers;

2 Coordinate and schedule regular meetings with assigned teacher cohort members; Collaborate and consult with teachers in lesson design and instructional strategies to increase teacher efficacy in the classroom, and increase student achievement; Provide instructional modeling of effective lessons in a variety of classroom settings; Maintain professional competence through participation in relevant in-service education activities, workshops, and seminars as assigned; Work efficiently and independently as a representative of KCE with various school districts; Display a professional demeanor in all interactions with school staffs; Provide and model application of relevant math and science resources including instructional technology for improving classroom instruction and student learning; Utilize new models of research-based instruction to current instructional practice and coaching; Perform related duties as assigned. Education and Experience: MA or M degree preferred. BA or B degree required with degree or emphasis in mathematics or science preferred. Minimum of three years of classroom teaching required with experience in teaching mathematics and/or science required License, Certificate and Testing Requirements: Valid Clear California Teaching Credential authorizing instruction at the appropriate grade levels. Certification to meet requirements of No Child Left Behind for work in Program Improvement chools. Possess a valid California Drivers License and maintain insurability. Must be able to provide your own reliable transportation to work sites within Kings County. EENTIAL DUTIE Provide professional development for 3 rd grade 8 th grade teachers of math and science at assigned school sites; Provide collaboration/consultation in lesson design and instructional strategies to increase the classroom teacher s efficacy and capacity in getting students to attain mastery in mathematical and science standards; Provide coaching and modeling to teacher cohort members in organizing and planning standardsbased instruction, student assessment, lesson design, and differentiated instructional delivery; Review and discuss with teachers their formative and summative evaluation data that measures student achievement; Assist the classroom teacher cohort member in identifying students instructional needs and implementing instruction strategies appropriately; Assist teachers in developing and prioritizing long and short-term learning goals and instructional objectives; Provide and model application of relevant resources for improving instructional efficacy; Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities as assigned by program administrator; Perform related duties as assigned.
