Reading lessons to tell students that they will read to fin specific information to make note of, create a T- chart or venn diagram to identify similarities between fact/fiction or what happened in the story/ what happened in your life, create K-W-L chart then research to verify or add new learning and retell a recently read story. Write sentences telling what you think will happen in the stories and write questions you think will be answered after reading the text. Self monitor by asking: Does it look right? Learning Activity: Guided reading practice with level appropriate text, basal series to introduce specific vocabulary words, familiar reading to practice phrasing and expression, teacher read alouds to show importance of phrasing and expression to convey intended meaning, shared reading to increase core of high frequency words, science and social studies lessons to develop specific content area vocabulary, and audio tapes of stories to focus on phrasing and expression. Assessment: DRA Learning Activity: Use science and social studies big books to identify sensory details. Cut out pictures that dictate strong senses sort them as to which sense is affected most. Common Assessment: 3 rd Quarter, Unit 1. R3A Locate and interpret information in illustrations, title, headings, captions, diagram, charts, and graphs Students will demonstrate how to locate an interpret information in: -illustrations -titles -headings -captions -diagrams -charts -graphs Learning Activities: Use a wordless picture book to tell or write a story. Conduct an author study, record titles of all books read during familiar reading, list every title read by the class during Reader s Workshop, sort books by whether they have an illustrator listed or not, write the title of your favorite book read that day, chart favorite authors of the class.
