We bring the city to life for students with a customized curriculum that tells the story of New York through the experiences of of Catholic and other immigrants. From the Great Hall of Ellis Island to the towering spires of St Patrick s Cathedral, students will learn how immigrants helped build the diverse and dynamic city we know today.

Let us use our expertise to create incredible experiences for your students together. HOUSING & HOMESTAY For the program, students will stay in a 3- star or higher hotel near the heart of the city. The safety and comfort of our students is our top priority and we've taken responsible measures to ensure their protection and wellness throughout their stay. CUSTOMIZED EDUCATION We've created a tailor-made program that combines tours and guest lecturers that can provide an inside look to the city. In just one week, students can experience life and culture of New York City. SIGNATURE ACTIVITIES We ve curated out-of-classroom activities in NYC to complement the in-class learning. Students come away from our programs with an enhanced grasp of global issues and a deeper understanding of the background and context informing contemporary society. Highlights Listen as global issues are brought to life in university lectures Explore history and current events through on-site visits with NGO and government organizations Compare and contrast how culture dictates our perception of the world Collaborate with our experts to develop and customize your perfect curriculum. INDUSTRY CONNECTIONS Hosted in three global cities, students will connect with instructors and guest speakers who ve spent their careers in the public and non-profit sectors working to make positive changes around the world. PROJECTS Student teams identify an impor tant humanitarian, educational, or geopolitical challenge, then design an NGO and strategy for tackling the problem which will be presented in a final project to a panel of experts.

7 Program Outline About the Program The Eastside Catholic spring break program introduces students to New York through the lenses of Catholic and immigrant experiences. While Catholics in New York were once a marginalized minority facing anti-immigrant hostility, successive waves of immigration from Ireland, Italy and other nations during the 19th century slowly helped make the city and the nation more religiously tolerant and diverse. Today, the U.S. is experiencing another surge of immigration--this time from across the globe. How does the experience of today s immigrants compare to that of their predecessors? How does the earlier Catholic immigrant experience inform the Church s and our own attitudes toward immigrants and immigration? What can we learn from these comparisons? These questions will guide the program as students explore this amazing city and its great landmarks, history and neighborhoods. Learning Outcomes and Final Project Through customized lectures, site visits and service learning, students will experience not only the famous sights of the city, but they ll also come away with a deeper understanding of how migrants from different nations and eras came to New York to build a new life. A final project will invite student teams to utilize their learning in New York to create short videos documenting the experiences and contributions of the city s different historical and contemporary immigrant groups.
