What are the Florida Standards? A set of clear, consistent and strong academic standards that will help ensure Florida s students graduate high school ready for success in college, career and life. Florida Standards
Cognitive Complexity
The Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) FSA is an authentic assessment that includes more than just multiple choice questions. It will prepare Florida students for success in college, career, and in life by emphasizing analytical thinking. Students will be expected to respond to multiple choice questions, create graphs, write and respond in different ways than on other traditional tests. Measures student mastery of the standards taught. Meets high quality standards for assessment, including reliability and validity for a variety of accountability purposes. Emphasizes critical thinking. What is the FSA?
Grades 4-7 Paper Based Test (PBT) Grade 8 Computer Based Test (CBT) Sessions and Times
Sessions and Times
Technology-Enhanced Items (FSA) FSA Question Types
English Language Arts/Literacy Focus on non-fiction and careful, focused reading. Discuss reading and writing using evidence. Increase academic vocabulary. Use real-world examples to better understand concepts.
Multiple Choice Item For these items, choose the best answer from the answer choices, and select one bubble for the correct answer. FSA ELA Question Types
Editing Task Choice The student clicks a highlighted word or phrase, which reveals a drop-down menu containing options for correcting an error as well as the highlighted word or phrase as it is shown in the sentence to indicate that no correction is needed. FSA ELA Question Types
Selectable Hot Text Excerpted sentences from the text are presented in this item type. When the student hovers over certain words, phrases, or sentences, the options highlight. This indicates that the text is selectable ( hot ). The student can then click on an option to select it. FSA ELA Question Types
Open Response The student uses the keyboard to enter a response into a text field. These items can usually be answered in a sentence or two. FSA ELA Question Types
Multiselect Items The student is directed to select a specific number of correct answers from among the options provided. These items are different from multiple-choice items, which allow the student to select only one correct answer. FSA ELA Question Types
Evidence-Based Selected Response (EBSR) In this two-part item, the student is directed to select the correct answers from Part A and Part B. Typically Part A is multiple-choice, whereas Part B may be either multiple-choice or multiselect. Part A often asks the student to make an analysis or an inference, and Part B requires the student to use the text to support the answer in Part A. FSA ELA Question Types
Graphic Response Item Display (GRID) The student may select words, phrases, or images and use the drag-and-drop feature to place them into a graphic organizer or other format. FSA ELA Question Types
Multimedia Technology-enhanced content may include multimedia elements such as audio clips, slideshows, or animations. Multimedia elements may appear within passages (stimuli) or test items. FSA ELA Question Types
Mathematics Learn more in-depth math by focusing on fewer concepts. Focus on skill building, speed and accuracy. Use real-world examples to better understand concepts.
Multiple Choice Item For these items, choose the best answer from the answer choices, and select one bubble for the correct answer. FSA Math Question Types
Open Response Item The student uses the keyboard to enter a response into a text field. FSA Math Question Types
Multiselect Items The student is directed to select all of the correct answers from among a number of options. These items are different from multiple choice items, which allow the student to select only one correct answer. FSA Math Question Types
Graphic Response Item Display (GRID) The student selects numbers, words, phrases, or images and uses the drag and drop feature to place them into a graphic. This item type may also require the student to use the point, line, or arrow tools to create a response on a graph. FSA Math Question Types
Equation Editor The student is presented with a toolbar that includes a variety of mathematical symbols that can be used to create a response. Responses may be in the form of a number, variable, expression, or equation, as appropriate to the test item. FSA Math Question Types
Matching Item The student checks a box to indicate if information from a column header matches information from a row. FSA Math Question Types
Table Item The student types numeric values into a given table. The student may complete the entire table or portions of the table depending on what is being asked. FSA Math Question Types
Scores for the assessments will be released in June 2018 Parents/Guardians and students will receive a paper score report after scores are released from the district. These reports will include: An overall score for each subject The student s achievement level The percentile rank More specific content-area scores FSA Achievement Levels
FSA Achievement Levels
Florida law defines Level 3 as indicating satisfactory performance (s (3)(e)1., F.S.) Florida law also states that a student passes an assessment if the student achieves a level 3, level 4, or level 5 (s (1)(a), F.S.) Level 3 is also defined as passing in State Board Rule (6A , F.A.C.) FSA Achievement Levels
