1 Teacher in Charge, Key Stage 1-4 Full Time, Term Time MPR 1 6 ( 23,720-34,644)/UPR 1-3 ( 37,005-39,791) TLR 2A ( 2,746) SEN Allowance ( 2,169) Permanent Contract ACE Schools Plymouth AP Academy (part of ACE Schools Multi Academy Trust) was formally set up on 1st June 2016 with the aim of building on the solid foundation established by the previous PRU. ACE Schools Plymouth operates from twelve sites around Devon & Cornwall and provides education and support services throughout the community to support pupils to access education in schools, community centers, medical facilities or their own homes. We offer outstanding opportunities in education for young people aged between 4 and 18 who do not attend mainstream schools for a variety of reasons including; medical need, risk of exclusion, behaviour, mental health diagnoses and SEN. Our dynamic and ground-breaking approach ensures our young people become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. ACE has grown rapidly into one of the largest and most successful AP Academy models in the UK. We are looking for an experienced and innovative practitioner to provide education to pupils from KS1 KS4 at North Hill base and manage the teams including WRAP, STEP and our Key Stage 3 Intervention Programme. The education model is based around working with the Pastoral Lead who will manage a team of teaching assistants commissioned to work one to one for each individual pupil due to their high needs. The post is full time to orchestrate individual learning and support delivery by teaching assistants as well as one to one and small group teaching. 2 Job Title Reporting To DBS Check Required Teacher In Charge Learning Manager Enhanced Job Purpose To provide bespoke learning guidance on packages to be delivered by Mentors to help address the learning needs of pupils placed on high need packages To teach a range of subjects as identified by the changing needs of the pupil cohort throughout the academic year to ensure the effective delivery of an appropriate and targeted curriculum with a focus on core subjects In consultation with the Seymour WRAP provision learning manager and SLT, undertake other identified areas of responsibility as necessary to ensure effective delivery of the school s curriculum. Responsibilities Plan, deliver, mark and monitor the progress of students in the provision Use a variety of methods and approaches (including differentiation) to match curricular objectives and the range of student needs, and ensure equal opportunity for all students. Use positive management of behaviour in an environment of mutual respect, which allows students to feel safe and secure and promotes their self-esteem. Maintain/establish good order and discipline among the students and safeguard their health and safety. Provide a nurturing classroom and school environment that helps pupils to develop as learners through individual packages mostly delivered by Mentors. Contribute to the effective working of ACE Schools Plymouth. To play a key role in the provision of bespoke education packages for high need pupils. To support the development of learning styles and appropriate teaching approaches, behaviour management, classroom strategies, resources and whole school policies for high need pupils. To initiate and model attachment specific teaching strategies for Mentors relating to individual pupils within the classroom. Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students. Make records of and reports on the personal and social needs of students. Communicate and consult with the parents/carers of students. Keep an accurate register of students for each lesson. Unexplained absences or patterns of absence should be reported immediately in accordance with the School s policy. Supervise other teachers at the North Hill site Knowledge & Understanding Have knowledge and understanding of: The school s vision, aims, priorities, targets, curriculum policies and action plans; Requirements for assessment, recording and reporting of pupils attainment and progress Keep up-to-date with research and developments in pedagogy and the subject areas The characteristics of high quality teaching and the main strategies for improving and sustaining high standards of teaching, learning and achievement for all pupils Planning & Target Setting Expectations Set appropriate and achievable expectations and targets for pupils in relation to standards of pupil achievements and the quality of teaching. Work with the Pastoral lead and any other staff to ensure that Individual Education Plans are used to set subject specific targets and match work well to pupil s needs. Develop with the involvement of relevant staff, educational short, medium and long term plans for the development and resourcing of all subjects taught, which: are based on a range of comparative information and evidence, including the attainment of pupils; identify realistic and challenging targets for improvement. are understood by all those involved in putting the plans into practice. are clear about action to be taken, time skills and criteria for success.
3 Assessment & Evaluation Follow clear policies and practices for assessing, recording and reporting of pupil achievement, and use this information to recognise achievement and to assist pupils in setting targets for further improvement. Monitor the pupil progress made in lessons, evaluate the effects on teaching and learning, and use this analysis to guide further improvement. Professional Standard and Development Be a role model to students through personal presentation and professional conduct. Arrive in class, on or before the start of the lesson, and begin and end lessons on time. Support all the School s policies, e.g. those on Health and Safety, Literacy, Numeracy and ICT. Establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues and associate staff. Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils. Outstanding classroom practitioner. Effective and systematic behaviour management, with clear boundaries, sanctions, praise and rewards. Has good communication, planning and organisational skills. Demonstrates resilience, motivation and commitment to driving up standards of achievement. Commitment to regular and on-going professional development and training to establish outstanding classroom practice. Experienced in teaching SEBD and SEND Ability to work under pressure, handle a variety of situations and people and self-manage time. Experience in using IT and Microsoft Office. Demonstrative ability to communicate in written and oral context with wide cross section of social and cultural backgrounds. Desirable Experience of successfully managing staff effectively Knowledge of and experience in using emotional and behavioural concepts, anger management, emotional literacy.
