School background School vision statement "Learning together in a caring rural environment where collaboration nurtures holistic growth and excellence for learning in the 21st century. School context Savernake Public School is a small rural school situated in southern Riverina of New South Wales, half way between the main centres of Deniliquin and Albury. The school caters for the educational needs of students from Kindergarten to Year six, all of whom travel to school by bus from the surrounding district. The school currently has an enrolment of 9 students, with one full time teaching principal, a part time teacher, a part time School Administrative Manager, a casual School Learning Support Officer and a part time General Assistant. The staff at Savernake Public School is committed to providing enriched opportunities for the students where co operation nurtures individual growth and excellence. Savernake Public School is a member of the Bangerang Learning Community of schools, a local school network who work together to promote strong links between the schools, to foster smooth transition to high school, to develop stronger professional learning links and to improve capacity to deliver extensive and high quality curriculum to the students. Savernake Public School also works closely with neighbouring small schools to encourage positive student welfare links, quality educational outcomes, sporting opportunities and sharing of ideas to promote positive learning environments and opportunities for the students. The school is supported by an active, strong and progressive Parents & Citizens Association who work closely with the local community to support the school in working towards achieving its goals. Self-assessment and school achievement Self-assessment using the School Excellence Framework For all schools (except those participating in external validation processes): This section of the Annual Report outlines the findings from self assessment using the School Excellence Framework, school achievements and the next steps to be pursued. This year, our school undertook self assessment using the School Excellence Framework. The framework supports public schools throughout NSW in the pursuit of excellence by providing a clear description of high quality practice across the three domains of Learning, Teaching and Leading. The staff at Savernake Public School has considered and discussed the school excellence framework and its implications for informing, monitoring and validating the school's progress and development. Throughout the school year, staff reflected on the progress being made in all aspects of the School Excellence Framework. In the domain of Learning the school's efforts have focused on a positive learning culture and student well being to address engagement and self monitoring of learning progress. With our small class sizes, students have been provided with personalised learning plans and students with additional learning needs have been identified and individual learning plans developed in partnership with the students, their parents and relevant professionals. Our major focus in the domain of Teaching has been how to analyse student data and then use this analysis to inform decision making leading to improved teaching practices in the classroom. Collaboration between staff during the annual teacher performance and development cycle provided opportunity for critical reflection, evaluation and exploration of evidence based practices. Delivering the curriculum in the classroom through increased use of technology has increased student engagement and motivation. In the domain of Leading we have continued to develop and provide leadership skills and opportunities for both staff and students. The school has celebrated student achievement and welcomed the involvement of the wider community. The Page 3 of 11 Savernake Public School 3041 (2016)

school has continued to lead the shared vision of the school and wider community and continues to strive for excellence. Our self assessment process will assist the school to refine the strategic priorities in our School Plan, leading to further improvements in the delivery of education to our students. For more information about the School Excellence Framework: the department/our reforms/school excellence framework Page 4 of 11 Savernake Public School 3041 (2016)

Strategic Direction 1 STRATEGIC DIRECTION 1 Well being and Student Learning Purpose Our focus is that every student feels safe, supported, valued and respected in an environment that promotes individual and collective well being and consequently provides opportunities for students to reach their full potential in academic, sporting, cultural and social endeavours. Overall summary of progress With our small class numbers we continue to pay careful attention to individual learning needs which has been a main component of our progress throughout the year. Employing extra staff to enable infants and primary classes to be separate has resulted in strong student growth. Students with high learning needs are identified early and their parents are involved in planning and supporting the learning directions for them. Progress towards achieving improvement measures Improvement measures (to be achieved over 3 years) All students achieve substantial progress as evidenced on the Literacy/Numeracy continuums. All students will be able to reflect on their own wellbeing needs and demonstrate positive decision making/choices. Progress achieved this year All students are showing growth on the Literacy and Numeracy continuums. Growth is also evident in 2016 NAPLAN results. Staff continue to develop their knowledge of the continuums and have embedded this throughout the teaching programs. Students demonstrating positive interactions with others through sports, play, classroom discussions and collaborative learning situations. Funds Expended (Resources) $25, Support Teacher $2,220 Transport costs to bus students Next Steps To implement the Bounce Back program into the classroom environment with the support of the School Chaplain. Page 5 of 11 Savernake Public School 3041 (2016)

Strategic Direction 2 STRATEGIC DIRECTION 2 High Quality Educational Practices Purpose To foster a culture of academic excellence through the development of professional practices which enable all students to be highly engaged throughout their education. Overall summary of progress An important opportunity has been provided to staff members in relation to planning, teaching and growing as a team through the training and implementation of the HOW2Learn program. The use of careful data analysis to inform decision making, the growing of teaching practice through classroom observations, reflections and feedback, and the developed understanding of the new syllabuses, all highlight a teaching culture that is moving student learning forward. There were delays in the purchase of some technology hardware which restricted the planned progress. Progress towards achieving improvement measures Improvement measures (to be achieved over 3 years) All students achieve substantial progress through the literacy and numeracy continuum. Students are creative and productive users of technology and confident communicators using technology. Progress achieved this year All students showed growth on the literacy and Numeracy continuums. This was also reflected in the 2016 NAPLAN results. Students are working towards developing their skills using various forms of technology. K 2 used ipads to improve all aspects of literacy. They used various apps including Trop to create animations and voice recording to improve fluency when reading. Students were also introduced to coding using the ipads and desktop computers. Funds Expended (Resources) $3,240 Literacy and Numeracy Funds $ Professional Development $5,258 Computer co ordinator Next Steps Extend student knowledge in coding and robotics. Our classroom programs included references to Aboriginal history and culture. Units of work were completed in class with reference to NAIDOC week celebrations and Harmony Day activities. As members of the Bangerang Learning Community reference was made to the traditional owners of the land on which our school is situated. Our students participated in the NAIDOC Week activities by hosting a combined activity day at Savernake Public School where students from the small schools network participated in cultural events through art, customs, language food and music. Multicultural and anti-racism education Students from Savernake Public School participated in many initiatives which have addressed Multicultural Education. Through teaching programs the students have become aware of many and varied cultural, linguistic and religious differences within many communities both in Australia and internationally. This was evident through the Musica Viva program where the musicians introduced a variety of instruments and musical pieces Page 10 of 11 Savernake Public School 3041 (2016)

from a variety of cultures. Harmony Day was a special day of celebration where the message of Everyone Belongs was incorporated into classroom teaching programs so that students had the opportunity to celebrate Australia's diversity through creative arts activities.
