The 4 parts of the PEOPLE PATHWAY model which lays out a path for student leaders to follow. Why CHARACTER is the important STARTING POINT for any student stepping into leadership. We will explore 4 CORE CHARACTER TRAITS of a leader: confidence with humility, others focused, reliability and empathy. The big mistake that many student leaders make when trying to INVOLVE MORE PEOPLE in school EVENTS. The 3 essential strategies for ENGAGING more STUDENTS in school events. The importance of identifying OTHER STUDENTS who can play a role alongside student leaders. The 4 ways for student leaders to GAIN THE TRUST of their PEERS. We will explore the important balance student leaders need to have between EXCITING PROJECTS and other NECESSARY TASKS. The 4 ways for EVERY INDIVIDUAL to make their own unique and valuable CONTRIBUTION to a broader team of leaders. Understanding SCHOOL CULTURE and how a collective group of leaders can POSITIVELY SHAPE it. How student leaders can implement meaningful TRADITIONS to the school. Literally dozens of new ideas for EVENTS and FUNDRAISERS that can easily be organised by STUDENTS and fulfill a valuable PURPOSE within your school. WHO FACILITATES THE GRIP STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE? This conference does not feature guest speakers, but is presented by a team of specialists in the area of student leadership. The GRIP Leadership team is comprised of young men and women who know what it s like to be in the shoes of a student leader. Some team members are recent school graduates with the ability to share from their own recent experience. Other team members are in their twenties and thirties and have worked across thousands of schools to develop a career exploring what works, what s current and what s possible in the area of student leadership. The youthful and professional nature of the GRIP Leadership team is such that teachers consistently compliment about their ability to engage the students whilst presenting a wealth of meaningful leadership concepts. 3 SECONDARY PROGRAM - THEME: THE PEOPLE PATHWAY All plenary sessions and electives include presentations, activities, discussions, and leadership games. Sessions are updated every year so that students can attend numerous years if desired. **ALL BRAND NEW SESSIONS** 8.30am Doors Open 9.00am SESSION 1 Plenary Session: The People Pathway This session emphasises that leadership is about people, not position or power. This being the case, we unpack the question who should a student leader focus on? To answer this in a practical way this session teaches students how to apply the People Pathway model. This tool assists students in understanding the four categories of people on the pathway: self, student leaders, school community and society. As part of the session, students will exchange ideas and experiences with leaders from other schools and commence planning an implementation plan for leading the people on their own pathway am Morning Tea Morning Tea Optional Session: Top Tips for House Captains A vibrant house system has the potential to be a significant addition to many schools. This optional session is included in the conference to pass on tips that are specific to students assigned to leadership roles within a house structure. The practical advice and video examples will give House Captains strategies to see immediate improvement to their house spirit and involvement am SESSION 2 Plenary Session: Character of a Leader Before trying to change the world, a leader should always commit to developing their own character. By having sound character, a leader positions themselves to ensure that the influence they have on others is positive. This session will assist student leaders in developing character that is described as having confidence with humility, being others focused, being reliable and showing empathy. ELECTIVES #1 (choose 1) Option 1: How to Involve More People in School Events Every student leader seems to love the prospect of having more people involved in school events. To try and achieve this, leaders almost always focus on improving the event and misunderstand that the focus should always be on people. This workshop equips students with three practical strategies for improving event attendance by focusing on people. This elective has numerous examples from other schools. Option 2: How to Maximise My Contribution to My Team Being part of a team is much more than being given a role. Imagine if every member of your student leadership team contributed to their maximum level. This workshop equips students with four practical strategies designed to make every leader a valuable member of the team pm Lunch Break 1.00pm SESSION 3 ELECTIVES #2 (choose 1) Option 3: How to Create an Amazing School Culture Student leaders are uniquely positioned to have a considerable influence on the culture of their school. By implementing the right strategies, student leaders can genuinely influence the attitudes, behaviours and customs that exist within the student body. By considering examples of other schools, this workshop will examine three helpful approaches to create an amazing culture at any school. Option 4: How to Choose and Advance a Cause There are lots of great causes that are worthy of support, so how should student leaders go about selecting the right one? The first part of this workshop takes students through a practical tool for identifying a suitable cause to support.
