We are so incredibly excited to see you Set Sail for Regional Leadership Conference In just about a week, we ll have the chance to come back to a place where we learn more about ourselves as leaders, advocate for the future of our organization, and continue finding home in GLACURH. To our returning delegates: welcome back. We re so happy to see that your experience with GLACURH and NACURH has encouraged you to continue engaging in our region. As returners, take time to help out first-time delegates. Encourage them in boardroom, help them understand parli pro, connect with new friends, do cheers with them, and show them why being involved in GLACURH and NACURH is such a special experience. It s always wonderful to see familiar faces, and we can t wait to see you soon. First-time delegates: welcome to GLACURH! There s nothing more exciting than introducing people to their first conference and seeing ideas blossom, spirit flourish, and passion grow for something bigger than oneself, one s school, and the region. Conferences can be overwhelming with cheering, legislation, bids, and tons of spirited people. However, I encourage you to let go of the fear of not looking cool and have fun. Conferences are a give and take experience. You can only get as much from them as put into them, so invest yourself in this experience! Advisors: thank you for being a constant positive force in your students experience! These conferences couldn t happen without you. We encourage you to engage in ART training, keep up with your students, and don t be afraid to have a little fun yourself. There is only one GLACURH Regional Leadership Conference 2018, so cherish every memory you have the chance to make here. Meet new friends. Reach out to the Regional Board and ask us why we do what we do. Letting yourself dive head first into conferences and GLACURH is a decision you won t regret. 3 Purpose of the Regional Leadership Conference The purpose of the GLACURH Regional Leadership Conference (RLC) is multifaceted. The primary purpose is to meet as a region and to conduct any regional presented for consideration. The individuals who meet in boardroom is the Regional Board of Directors, National Communication Coordinators, and NRHH Communication Coordinators. Advisors are welcomed to sit in business in the event that students wish to caucus with them. Advisors will also be encouraged to present or attend Advisor Resource Training (ART) Sessions. Furthermore, this conference provides networking, learning, and social experiences to student delegates so they are better able to create positive living and learning environments on their respective campuses. Affiliation For school affiliations, an affiliation report must be completed and uploaded to the NACURH Connection to complete the affiliation process. Additionally, membership dues of $ USD, census question responses, and updated contact information is required. If your school is a new member this year, all requirements stand with the exception of submitting an affiliation report, and a lower affiliation cost. For NRHH chapters, it is essential that you have your constitution approved before arriving at the conference. If there is something in your constitution that prohibits the Associate Director for NRHH from being able to approve it, you will lose all voting rights and ability to win regional awards. Additionally, do not forget that completed contact information, census questions, and a membership listing is required to complete affiliation. Each school needs to be properly affiliated to have voting rights during business. There will be no exceptions. Affiliation must be completed once a year, but affiliation dues must be paid before the conference. Check-In Only the Advisor, NCC, and NRHH-CC should enter the registration/check-in area. The NCC should bring in any philanthropy donations, spirit items, registration payment, and affiliation payment if applicable. You will check in with multiple stations. Bids and Legislation Please read and prepare to constructively critique the following bids: School of the Year, NRHH Outstanding Member of the Year, Program of the Year, and Regional Leadership Conference Thoroughly read all legislation and develop any questions or opinions you may have. Institutions with both an NCC and NRHH-CC, should be speaking with their co-cc about each bid, piece of legislation, and other topics. You will be split up into separate boardrooms to discuss separate business on Saturday afternoon, therefore make sure you talk about decisions that will best represent your institution, that you are both comfortable with. Saturday we will adopt the policy of business attire in the boardroom. The RBD asks that you not wear jeans or sweatpants. We perceive adopting a business casual dress code as just one of the ways that we show our respect for the hard work that has gone into bid presentations and other business. The definitions of professional dress and business casual are up to your perception and level of comfortability - we recognize the classist roots that exist in the expectations for professional dress, and seek to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and ready for business! The Closing Ceremonies banquet attire is typically a dress, button down shirt with a tie, a suit, or other nice attire. We use one degree below homecoming to indicate that attire doesn t need to be extremely formal, but we encourage you to look nice and be comfortable for the ceremonies. Conference Philanthropy RLC 2018 s philanthropy is with the Ronald McDonald House. Conference spirit points will be given away for schools that bring items to participate in the philanthropy, or bring receipts to show how they have donated to their local Ronald McDonald House chapter. Below are items that are being accepted by the conference staff for spirit points. 5 Multipack chips Pop tabs Money Volunteer hours with a Ronald McDonald House chapter Conference Guests To make sure we are offering you all of the services of NACURH, we will be having a number of guests at RLC These guests will be Angela Powell from On Campus Marketing, NCO Associate Director for NRHH Operations & Affiliation Christine Parola, NACURH Chair Megan Jimmerson, ART Coordinator Jen Bannon, GLACUHO Representative Megan Corder, CAACURH Bidding, Recognition, & Service, and NEACURH Spring Leadership Conference Chair Stephanie Hallinger. Use them as a resource this weekend, and welcome them to the Great Lakes! Healthy Habits As a region we want healthy habits. Which means we want to make sure you are choosing to get enough sleep and are not participating in any alcohol or drug use. We promise to keep business as efficient as possible and let you out as early as we can to allow for you to get some sleep. Most importantly, anyone who is caught consuming alcohol or other drugs will be asked to leave the conference at their own expense. NCC & NRHH-CC Responsibilities The National Communications Coordinator (NCC) is the voting representative of each institution at the regional level of RHA. In other words, the NCC is the person who sits at the table of NACURH and regional conferences representing their schools and voting on issues in a way that best represents and benefits their host institution. The NRHH Communications Coordinator (NRHH-CC) is the voting representative during all regional and NACURH business of the National Residence Hall Honorary. In addition, GLACURH has a unique perspective on the duties of an NRHH-CC. While the NCCs do hold the vote, our region s philosophy is that NCCs and NRHH-CCs work together during regional business to determine what is best for the region and their respective host institution. *NCCs and NRHH-CCs are both responsible for reading bids and legislation prior to the conference.*

6 Tips for Advisors Support your NCC/NRHH-CC : Off they go to that unknown world of the boardroom. Check in with them at night and in the morning, visit the boardroom and pass them a nice note of encouragement, or send fun things to them. Allow your CCs a space to debrief business from the day if necessary. Attempt to join business for pieces of legislation that your CCs may want to caucus for. Keep them updated with what your delegation has been accomplishing so that they feel like part of the group and know that all their hard work paid off! Check-In with your delegation: Eat meals with them. Ask them about the programs they are attending and the things they are learning. Make sure at they are going to different sessions and fully partaking in the conference experience. Follow up with your new delegates. If they seem down, pump up the spirit! Professionally develop & network: This conference can help you, too! Attend programs and socials, or prepare a program for advisors or students. GLACURH/NACURH are filled with advisors going through similar experience as you, so meet them and talk with them. Recognize their efforts: Conferences are a great time to see student leadership at its best: delegates, NCCs, NRHH-CCs, conference staff all rise to these occasions. Make sure to let them know that you see them doing great things. Cute notes and surprise pieces of recognition such as cards or small gifts help them know it s all worth it. Sleep: Advisors are typically responsible for transporting the delegation, so make sure you get plenty of sleep. Check-in with your delegates and NCCs, let them know how to reach you in an emergency, but also be sure to get some shut-eye. It will help you be the role model you want to be in the morning, and also lead a safe ending to your conference experience! It isn t all about the gold: Everything leads up to the banquet: the grand ending to a weekend of learning and growing. Be sure to let your delegation know that you are proud of them before the banquet, and will continue to be proud of them whether their names are called or not. While we do a lot of work to be honored and recognized, sometimes we forget that it isn t what we are all about, and that it is more important to celebrate hard work than to be deemed the winner.
