Nrmally, tutrial classes are cnducted in the cmputer labratries. Students are expected t attend classes with the requisite textbk and must read specific chapters prir t each tutrial. This will allw them t actively take part in discussins. Students shuld have elementary skills in bth wrd prcessing and electrnic spreadsheet sftware, such as Office 365 r MS Wrd and MS Excel. Cmputers and WIFI facilities are extensively available fr student use thrughut KOI. Students are encuraged t make use f the campus Library fr reference materials. 2 Students will require access t the internet and . Where students use their wn cmputers, they shuld have internet access. KOI will prvide access t required sftware. Sftware Resurce requirements specific t this subject: Sun's Java 8 JDK and NetBeans IDE, Office 365, MS Imagine. 2. Academic Details 2.1 Overview f the Subject Prgramming is a vital skill that enables prblem slving thrugh the use f cmputers acrss a range f disciplines. This subject cvers intermediate and advanced features f the Java prgramming language as a cntinuatin f ICT102 Intrductin t Prgramming. Tpics cvered include bject-riented prgramming cncepts f inheritance, interfaces, abstract classes, abstract methds, and plymrphism. Students will learn abut implementing Java s graphical FX cmpnents and Java Applets, and acquire practical knwledge f develping Java prgrams. 2.2 Graduate Attributes fr Undergraduate Curses Graduates f Bachelr curses frm King s Own Institute (KOI) will be able t demnstrate the attributes f a successful Bachelr degree graduate as utlined in the Australian Qualificatins Framewrk (2 nd editin, January 2013). 5 2.7 Teaching Methds/Strategies Briefly described belw are the teaching methds/strategies used in this subject: On-campus lectures (2 hurs/week) are cnducted in seminar style and address the subject cntent, prvide mtivatin and cntext and draw n the students experience and preparatry reading. Tutrials (2 hurs/week) include class discussin f case studies and research papers, practice sets and prblem-slving and syndicate wrk n grup prjects. Tutrial participatin is an essential cmpnent f the subject and cntributes t the develpment f graduate attributes (see sectin 2.2 abve). It is intended that specific tutrial material such as case studies, recmmended readings, review questins etc. will be made available each week in Mdle. Online teaching resurces include class materials, readings, mdel answers t assignments and exercises and discussin bards. All nline materials fr this subject as prvided by KOI will be fund in the Mdle page fr this subject. Students shuld access Mdle regularly as material may be updated at any time during the trimester Other cntact - academic staff may als cntact students either via Mdle messaging, r via t the address prvided t KOI n enrlment. 2.8 Student Assessment Assessment is designed t encurage effective student learning and enable students t develp and demnstrate the skills and knwledge identified in the subject learning utcmes. Assessment tasks during the first half f the study perid are usually intended t maximise the develpmental functin f assessment (frmative assessment). These assessment tasks include weekly tutrial exercises (as indicated in the weekly planner) and lw stakes graded assessment (as shwn in the graded assessment table). The majr assessment tasks where students demnstrate their knwledge and skills (summative assessment) generally ccur later in the study perid. These are the majr graded assessment items shwn in the graded assessment table. Final grades are awarded by the Bard f Examiners in accrdance with KOI's Assessment and Assessment Appeals Plicy. The definitins and guidelines fr the awarding f final grades within the BIT degree are: HD High distinctin (85-100%) an utstanding level f achievement in relatin t the assessment prcess. DI Distinctin (75-84%) a high level f achievement in relatin t the assessment prcess. CR Credit (65-74%) a better than satisfactry level f achievement in relatin t the assessment prcess. P Pass (50-64%) a satisfactry level f achievement in relatin t the assessment prcess. F Fail (0-49%) an unsatisfactry level f achievement in relatin t the assessment prcess.
