1 Year 9 Term 1 Term 2 Term 3 Term 4 Term 5 Term 6 English Language Paper 1 English Language paper 1 Macbeth DNA Introducing Rhetoric section A section B Students will study a range of coming-of-age fiction texts, and develop knowledge of terminology to describe the writer s methods. This unit of work will further develop students written skills for English Language. The focus will be on how well students can present their ideas clearly, imaginatively and effectively. A detailed study of one of Shakespeare s most engaging and dynamic plays. Students will explore some of the deeper issues of the play such as power and influence as well as develop an appreciation of the time in which Shakespeare was writing. A detailed study of Dennis Kelly s modern and thought provoking play. Students will explore and analyse the playwright s portrayal of disaffected youth and how dramatic conventions are used to bring the characters and situations to life. This unit introduces students to non-fiction writing by exploring the art of rhetoric from Classical civilizations through to political speakers today. Q4 Evaluating writer s methods. Students are expected to respond to a statement by expressing their opinion and identifying methods from the extract. This includes 19 th C non-fiction texts. Writing a viewpoint. Don t get me started! This unit of work will further develop students writing skills for English Language. The focus will be on presenting a convincing viewpoint. The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde This unit of work will develop students understanding of what constitutes Gothic Fiction and an appreciation of Victorian literature. A developed understanding of the plot, key events, characters and themes will equip students with the confidence to analyse Stevenson s enigmatic tale of duality and human transformation. Anthology Poems Power and Conflict Students will study the 15 set poems in the Power & Conflict cluster from the AQA Poetry Anthology.
