2 Materials: St. Petersburg Times Newspaper, or school newspaper Literature Center folder Plain white paper Directions Select one card you would like to use today for your vocabulary activity. Make sure you write the card number on the top of your paper so I know which one you chose. Show all your work on this paper. Once it s complete place it in your folder.

3 You may choose to complete one of the three activities associated with this special book: 1. Homonyms Worksheet (pg8-11) 2. Synonym Wow Words (pg16-32) 3. Antonym Worksheet (pg16-32) Once you complete the activity place the worksheet in your folder.

9 Read-A- Book Word Search Directions: During or after reading a book of your choice, record at least 3 words you don t know. Then answer the questions below. 1.) List all the words you don t know or aren t sure you fully understand. 2.) What do you think they mean? 3.) What do they actually mean? 4.) Circle the strategies from the following list that you used to figure out the words you didn t know. 10 Directions- Select at least 3 graphic organizers you d like to complete. You many only use this week s vocabulary words or previous words learned. You may refer to the word wall, or your vocabulary notebook for help. You will create this yourself on a blank sheet of paper. Copy from the examples provided. You will find the examples in the folder labeled Graphic Organizers Once it is complete place it in your folder. 11 Use our vocabulary words to complete this word challenge grid. The last column is left blank for you to choose a category. Some ideas are: related words, what it makes you think of, a picture, what kind of word it is (noun, verb, adverb, adjective) or any other ideas you may have that will help you learn the word. 12 Did you come across a fabulous word? Tell us about it! Directions: While reading look for a word to share with the class. This should be a word that you feel our class should learn. Maybe you feel it will help them become better readers or writers. After you find the word fill out the worksheet and place it in the Vivacious Vocabulary bin. Make sure you tried to sell us your word.

13 Why did you choose it? Was it a Wow Word (WW)? Does the word just sound great (SG)? Did it remind you of another word (R)? Did it follow one of our spelling patterns (SP)? Did it catch your eye (CE)? Was it an unfamiliar word (UN)? A word to help us elaborate our writing (EW)? New Word: Sell us on your word and it may just make it to our Second Grade Vivacious Vocabulary Word Wall!!!! 14 Select 3 task cards that you would like to complete on a blank piece of paper. Record the number of the task card next to your answer so I know which ones you used You may use our current vocabulary words or past words in your vocabulary notebook. Make sure to underline the vocabulary words you chose!

Tell me why Chose 3 words and create Word Personifications for them

17 Use word or people personifications to evoke a words meaning. Choose 3 Vocabulary Words from this week or past weeks. Make sure to include the vocabulary word, and definition. If you choose to create a person personification, include a brief description of the character. It must describe the vocabulary word!

18 Directions: Complete one cloze activity from the folder. If you have time you can create your own cloze activites using our classroom vocabulary words. Or select a page from a book, rewrite it, deleting words one could fill in based off context clues. Give it to a friend to complete. Have them sign the paper and place it in your folder.

19 Directions: Choose a new FCRR Activity from the bin. Read the directions and make sure you have all the materials needed. Complete the activity alone or with a partner. Check to see if there is a worksheet to record on. If there is, you must complete it and place it in your folder. **Make sure ALL materials go neatly back into the envelope or folder**
