The state officers are looking forward to an awesome year with each of you. In this edition of the newsletter, you will learn more about this year State Council, Youth Voice, our State theme, National 4-H Week, and much more. What s the North Carolina 4-H State Council theme? This year state theme is Dare to Stand Together. Throughout this upcoming year, we hope that 4-H members will be encouraged to stand alone, stand up, and stand together with different acts in their club, community, country, and the world. North Carolina 4-H is one of the largest youth organization in the state and we make a huge impact in the lives of youth. Together we can all stand together! 3 District Reports South Central 4-H District Hello from the South Central District! Some of our Summer highlights include having 67 youth from our District participate in State 4-H Presentations and 47 youth from our District received a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal at 4-H State Presentations. We are so proud to have 5 youth from our District that was selected as AIRE winners. We had 11 youth from our District that were inducted into Honor Club at Congress. Our District scrapbook also received the Gold award at NC 4-H Congress! We re also excited that our very own, Kat Stulpin and Cecilia Tadt were elected to serve as State Officers in ! Our new District officers have been hard at work planning many exciting things coming soon! On August 4th and 5th, the officers attended the State Council Training, where they participated in workshops on how to be better leaders and had the chance to connect with other District Officers teams. The new South Central District Officers are: Anna Beth Harris (Alexander County) President Josh Wilson (Catawba County) Vice President Daija Sams (Union County) Secretary/Treasurer Rachel Wilson (Cabarrus County) Reporter Southeast 4-H District The Southeast District had an awesome year, and your new officers are excited for the upcoming eventful and exciting year! The Southeast District officers are Chloe Allen as your president, Emily Worth as your Vice President, Leah Jackson as your Secretary/Treasurer, and Bobbi Jane Lawrence as your Reporter. As an officer team, we are excited to get to know everyone and make lifelong friendships and memories! Now enough about us and more about y all! At 2018 North Carolina Congress the Southeast District had five members get inducted into Honor Club and 40 state presentation winners! We are so proud of their accomplishments! We encourage everyone to give presentations on the state level, and apply to become a member of the NC 4-H Honor Club! Your Southeast District officers are excited to see what happens this year. We cannot wait to see everyone at our next district event! West 4-H District At the August Planning meeting, we as an officer team, brainstormed ideas for a one day Fall activity day where we would like to focus on Agriculture or STEM. This would be a district event where we would have workshops and classes. We would like to invite all juniors and teens from across the state to join us! The West District officers are: President - Luke Silver from Mitchell County Vice President - Madison Breedlove from Rutherford County Secretary/Treasurer - Ben Carpenter from Haywood County Reporter - Dixie Lovelace from Rutherford County

4 District Reports Northeast 4-H District Hello Everyone! We have had a busy last few months here in the Northeast district. There have been lots of fun exciting things happening over these last few months. The Northeast district s Teen Retreat 2018 took place March 16-18, 2018 in the Outer Banks in Dare County. We had twenty-one counties in attendance. We had a fun and exciting time with our workshops and our service projects. We were able to choose from doing a beach sweep or making dog toys for an animal shelter. We also saw some amazing skits from our district officer candidates. We concluded with a banquet and then we danced the night away Northeast district officers are: President- Lauren Winslow, VP-Ryan Baskerville. Sec/Tres- Mikyla Quintero, Reporter- Katie Haynes. The Northeast District held District Activity Day in Warren County on June 20, We had many in attendance at this event with presentations on various topics and some wonderful entertains acts. We have great talent in the Northeast district! 4-H Congress was held July 21-24, 2018 at NCSU in Raleigh, NC. We participated in many events from youth-led workshops, watching spotlight speeches, electing state officers, the candlelight clover, dances, and the Honor Club Tapping Ceremony. The district was well represented with new Honor Club inductees. We had a blast at this event and we can t wait until next year. North Central 4-H District Hello, North Carolina 4-H! Salutations from your North Central District officers! Are y all excited for a new year spent growing and learning in 4-H? I know we are! We are so grateful and energized for the opportunity to be your district officers and look forward to getting to know each and everyone one of you! We have an exciting year planned ahead of us and we know you ll love what we have in store. The district officers will be meeting in the next few weeks to work on planning and preparing upcoming events and activities. During Congress 2018, we said goodbye to our amazing district officers and welcomed our new team Carter Gordon is serving as President, Samuel Dickerson as Vice President, Richard Tysinger as your Secretary/Treasurer, and Allie Akers is serving as your Reporter. We also inducted several NCD 4-Her s into 4-H Honor Club. 4-H State Congress may have ended not much long ago, but that doesn t mean that the year is over! We are so proud of everyone and what they ve accomplished, and we hope to bring the energy into 2019!

5 State 4-H Council Officers Training State 4-H Council Training Meeting was held on August 4-5, 2018 in Cary, NC. All twenty of the district officers were in attendance along with the state officers and Agent Advisors. On Saturday, the district officers were trained on how to choose your attitude, participated in an etiquette workshop taught by Mrs. Louise Hinsley, learned about parliamentary procedure led by the state officers, and ended the day with district meetings. District officers shared the upcoming events they hope to plan over the next year. In the afternoon we all met at AlliGator Snowballs for putt putt and snowballs, We had fun connecting. On Sunday, Mrs. Whitney Collins, the 4-H agent in Surry County, came and taught a workshop on Creating Our Vision. Each district created a vision for their district for the upcoming year. It was super neat seeing everyone's ideas. We can't wait for the great things to come! 6 2018 NCACC Youth Voice The ninth annual Youth Voice was held on August in Hickory, NC, On Friday the delegates participated in the Real Colors Personality session. Youth learned quickly about their individual color. No matter what color you are we all have an important part in work, school, and in life. This activity showed delegates how to communicate more effectively and build better relationships, by recognizing other peoples strengths and weakness. On Saturday morning the delegates enjoyed the Youth Involvement Breakfast with the county officials and youth delegates. In the afternoon session, Bottom Line each youth designed a county budget for their community. Attendees worked together in small groups to decide what values were important to their counties. The youth had to make tough decisions just like a County Commissioner has to make. Some things they had to choose between included cutting different programs/events or increasing taxes in order to balance the budget. We ended the event by attending the annual NCACC Business Session, where a few delegates spoke about lessons learned. A HUGE thank you to the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners for sponsoring this annual event for North Carolina 4-H'ers! Join us on our social North

7 National 4-H Week coming soon A whole week to celebrate all your amazing achievements! 4-H is the nation s largest youth organization. Let s celebrate National 4-H Week on October 7-13, Join in on the fun by checking on our Facebook page in the month of October for the photo challenge. We as State 4-H officers have a HUGE goal this year! Our mission and goal this year is to travel to ALL of the one hundred counties and the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians in North Carolina! If you have an event coming up in your county that you would like for a state officer to attend, bring greetings, speak, help hand out awards, teach a workshop, or anything else please contact Ms. Sarah Kotzian at least one month before the event.
