1 Believe you can and you re halfway there. - Theodore Roosevelt Dear AHS Parents, I had the opportunity to meet with one of our many active student groups this morning before school and the topic of confidence arose. There was some discussion in small groups around what it is that keeps us from being confident in our lives. As you can imagine, I was extremely encouraged by the level of maturity displayed by so many of our students during this conversation. They shared about their fears of judgment from friends and other insecurities that can sometimes creep in and cause them to shy away from being bold and courageous. Ironically, in sharing this, they were vulnerable. They were real. They were confident. So what was different about this space? It was small. It was intimate. It was relational. In the era of social media and instant worldwide connectivity, it s easy for us to avoid the up-close and personal because we post, we like, we follow, we retweet from a distance. We have the opportunity to reflect on our responses and stage our posts - get the best lighting, the perfectly cropped picture, the best angle. And yet, real life is not perfect; it s often messy and disagreeable. Many of our kids feel intense pressure to be perfect in all areas of their life and I believe this most definitely can contribute to a lack of confidence. As adults - parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors - it s critical that we acknowledge our own imperfections (past and present) and remember what it was like to be 16 years old. Truly, I believe our empathy towards our sons & daughters can change the world. THANK YOU for encouraging, guiding, reproving, and believing in these kids!! Have a GREAT weekend! 2 HUGE shout out to those theatre students who attended the State Thespian Conference during Spring Break! We had more top finishes than any other school in all of OHIO!! Seniors interested in working for a FORTUNE 500 company (UPS) with tuitionreimbursement packages were welcomed to a lunch & learn event on Wednesday!!

3 Some of our BEST students went out in the community to the Beechmont firehouse!! Thanks to the Anderson Twp Fire Dept. and Mr. Weber for the tour of the trucks!!

4 On Thursday, our Human Body Systems class were able to watch a LIVE STREAMING kidney transplant surgery in our Fine Arts Room...what a cool opportunity!!

5 WOW!! These Mandarin students took FULL ADVANTAGE of some amazing and authentic Chinese cuisine (and ordered in Mandarin) on their field trip today!! UPCOMING SCHOOL EVENTS: 4/9 - PTO Meeting - 7pm in Media Center 4/19-4/27-2-Hour Delay Schedule - As we have done in the past, during End of Course Exams, only students who are taking the exam need to report to school at 7:20 each day. Buses will run at normal times, but non-testing students do not need to arrive until 9:20 each day. (more info coming soon!) 5/29-5/31 - Final Exams 5/31 - Last Day of School! QUARTER 3 REPORT CARDS NOW AVAILABLE ON PROGRESS BOOK: Third quarter report cards are now available on Progress Book. You may access these report cards on Progress Book by clicking on Report Card in the left hand navigation panel, then View Paper History in the upper right corner. This will take you to a list of available report cards for you to select. The report card will open in a PDF file and is printable should you choose to do so. Click here to see instructions.

If you have difficulty viewing your report card on Progress Book, please parenthelp@foresthills.edu. NOTE: 4th quarter report cards are not released until all financial obligations are met. CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: There was a TON of work that happened up here at AHS over Spring Break last week and I wanted to just give you all a few pictures that will hopefully help to EXCITE you all about what is coming for us next year! Without a doubt, the LARGEST project that was begun over break included the installation of the steel beams and foundation for the catwalk in the Titus Lobby that will eventually connect to the NEW 3rd floor elevator!!

7 The dark dungeon feel in the north hallway in the art/career wing has received a face lift in the form of MORE LIGHTING!! The tile will be installed over the summer and this hallway will appear BRAND NEW!! The Mike Hall Way outside the Media Center was finally PAINTED!!! Holy smokes does it look better!! Although the lighting has not yet been fully installed, it s amazing what some nice paint has done to this previously dark and ghoulish corridor!

8 This is inside the old office space that will become 4 additional classrooms and 3 office spaces. The ceiling grid and lighting have been installed and the walls are painted. Flooring is up next!! :) This photo doesn t do it justice, but this is the AMAZING new weight room facility!! You ll notice the light at the end of the tunnel will eventually be 3 beautiful windows overlooking Brown Stadium!! The place looks fantastic!! PARENT SURVEY - AHS EVENING EVENTS START TIME: As we begin the work of scheduling events at Anderson High School for next school year, I would very much appreciate your feedback on what you believe the best start time is for various nonathletic, evening events (i.e. Junior/Senior Parent Meeting, Open House, College Application Night,

9 etc.). Please take a minute to choose which time works best for you by clicking the following link: AHS Evening Event "Start Time" Survey GRADUATING SENIORS - LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION: Local scholarship applications will be available for interested seniors beginning April 2nd. Due to generous donations from school, parent, and community organizations, a substantial list of scholarships will be available for seniors this year. Last year we awarded 50 scholarships for a total amount of $25,385. In order to be eligible, seniors must have a 3.3 weighted grade point average (GPA) or higher and complete an online application. We have posted the application link in the Schoology group, Anderson in the Know on April 2nd. The link is also provided below. The deadline for applying for these scholarships is Sunday, April 22nd when the online application will close. Scholarship winners will be announced at the Senior Academic Awards Program on May 23rd. Contact Dave Kammerer (davekammerer@foresthills.edu). 9UNITED S iserve CAMPAIGN (APRIL 9-14): Students and families across the district are invited to join 9United for iserve, a week long campaign that will focus on service and kindness where we live, learn, play, and work! The week will begin with a focus on taking care of ourselves and build throughout the rest of the week with ideas for ways to serve our families, friends, school, and community. A sweets swap will celebrate the end of the week. Details about the campaign and how students and families can participate can be found at EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARD NOMINATION DUE 4/20: AHS is requesting teacher nominations for our Anderson High School Excellence in Education award. Please use the following form to nominate a teacher, staff member, or team of educators you feel exemplifies excellence at AHS. The deadline for nominations is April 20th!
