Her commission to serve as United States Attorney was signed by President Barack Obama on October 5, 2011, and she was sworn in on October 7, PSN, under our new U.S. Attorney, will continue to focus on federal firearms offenders, in particular, those involved with gangs, domestic violence or offenders who are eligible for enhanced sentencing under the Armed Career Criminal Act. We will collaborate with our local law enforcement agencies, district attorneys and community leaders in order to strengthen our PSN efforts. UNITED STATES ATTORNEY DISTRICT OF OREGON S. AMANDA MARSHALL Regarding firearms cases involving domestic violence, we are particularly interested in receiving more referrals with offenders subject to a restraining order or individuals who have a prior conviction for a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. Please contact AUSA Fred Weinhouse, AUSA Frank Papagni or AUSA Doug Fong, depending on your location, if you would like to discuss a potential case or to schedule PSN training for your organization. In this issue, we list 30 recently indicted or sentenced cases from nine counties and two Indian reservations. Referrals 5

2 Page 2 SIGNIFICANT RECENT CASES United States District Court Judge Owen M. Panner sentenced Joshua Kenneth Devore, 34, of Grants Pass, to serve four years in federal prison after he pled guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. On November 13, 2010, a Grants Pass police officer contacted Devore walking on Redwood Avenue shortly after midnight. When the officer stopped to talk with Devore, he turned away from the officer, reached into his waistband, and threw an object into a ditch. The object turned out to be a loaded.22 caliber revolver. Devore also possessed a black slingstyle knife and a small amount of marijuana. Devore is a multiple convicted felon, with ten convictions for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, two convictions for felony attempt to elude, felon in possession of a firearm, identity theft, theft in the first degree, and four convictions for possession of methamphetamine. This case was investigated by the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas W. Fong. David Jon Rendon, 30, of Medford, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Owen M. Panner to 210 months in federal prison for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and felon in possession of a firearm. On July 16, 2010, Jackson County probation officers, assisted by Medford police, conducted a probation search of Rendon s apartment. Officers found a quarter pound of methamphetamine, MSM (a cutting agent), digital scales, ecstasy pills, Hydrocodone pills, cocaine, and a loaded Beretta 9mm handgun. The serial number on the handgun was obliterated. Due to defendant s extensive criminal history, Medford police referred the case to ATF for federal prosecution. Rendon is an armed career criminal and a career drug offender, having prior felony convictions in Oregon for assault in the third degree, three convictions for delivery of a controlled substance, two convictions for felony attempt to elude police, felon in possession of a firearm, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance. This case was investigated by the Jackson County Probation Office, the Medford Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Douglas W. Fong.
