Both for the roadside cleanup on Rt 351 and the Fitness Trail in Butler Park Kiwanians and community groups are needed! Bob Loveridge: The Rensselaer County Legislature will have a 5:30 pm ceremony honoring my Dad, Ray Loveridge for his service to the community. Joe Behson: The annual FREE concert by the Dissipated Eight will be Fri April 12 th at the Averill Park High School Auditorium. Please distribute posters all over town! John Brownrigg: Update on Bob Reiter he has been to Sloan Kettering for tests to determine if his cancer will permit a liver transplant, and is awaiting results. ELECTION OF DIRECTOR Three nominees to fill unexpired term ending Sept 30, 2014: Joe Behson, Linda Ellis, and Eve Ward. Written ballots were taken, and EVE WARD was elected. Congratulations, Eve! The Annual Meeting and Regular Election of Club Officers and Directors will be held during the second meeting in May May 13, APRIL BIRTHDAYS: Linda Ellis, Dick Johnsen, Stuart Nippes, Jim Parslow, Bob Pasquarelli, APRIL ANNIVERSARIES: none and Ray Turner We sang to the three who were present, and enjoyed Eve s delicious strawberry cream cake! PROGRAM Eve Ward gave an update on the accomplishments of the Social Committee. I help House & Reception Chair Dudley Dorr with the planning of the Installation of Officers & Directors Dinner, and the Holiday Party, calling those who forget to make reservations, and decorate the tables. I organize the Holiday Luncheon for seniors at Brookside Park, the spring work night at Camp Rotary, the after Summerfest picnic, the outgoing president s Steak & Lobster Cookout, and the Valley Cats baseball game night. I send greeting cards, signed by members, to other members who are in need of congratulations or comfort, and organize the collection of school supplies, stuffed
3 toys, and books for the children who need them. I help Program Chair John Mulligan with his weekly schedule of programs, and make phone calls to remind members of their responsibilities. HAPPY DOLLARS $ Woodie Hacker: I had a wonderful time attending the Daytona 500 Race in Florida! And I had both my cataracts removed! $ Barb Fioravanti: I am very proud of my middle granddaughter Iris, who with 9 friends in Middle School, composed, produced, and presented a musical play to the school last Thurs! And, not so happy, my job at the Canal Corporation was eliminated in the latest round of cuts. A colleague and I were commiserating, and were joined by our own Colonel Love! $ John Brownrigg: This time I saw a baby fledgling eagle in the park in Schodack! $ Pete Stevens: Not so happy I lost a very good friend this week. $ Bob Loveridge: Here s hoping Barb gets her job back! $ Joe Behson: Had a wonderful ski marathon the past 2 weeks I was able to ski 10 out of 12 days, on great snow up in Vermont! $ Jim Colabelli: We had a terrific Easter in Conn with our daughter and her family! Also, 2 weeks ago, we went to see RAIN at Proctor s and really experienced the Beatles! $ Pat Lane: 26 members of my family came for Easter dinner, and the boys finished the bathroom just in time! $ Jerry Tysiak: Spent a spectacular Saturday in Poestenkill 2 weeks ago at the school s science fair. We may have a great new project made an excellent profit of nearly $1000! Thanks to all who worked so hard to make it happen! $ Bill Whipple: I m disappointed that Dick Johnsen isn t here to brag about Syracuse U s win in the basketball tournament! $ Peg Weiss: I stopped in the local flower shop to buy a big yellow ribbon bow to put on my mailbox post honoring my grandson in Afghanistan, and the lady refused payment when she learned the reason in honor of the troops! Nice people live in our town! $ Jim Parslow: Visited our eldest son and had a tour of the legislature. Went to see Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and it was so bad they gave us our money back! $ Jean Hamlin: I had the best Easter in years with my other daughter and her family! I cooked, and then we watched The Bible which was awesome! DOOR PRIZE, provided by Eve, was won by Skip Patton! 50/50 for $23.50 was won by Barb Fioravanti! MEGA 50/50 grew to $344 and will keep growing, because Eve Ward could only find the 2 of Spades instead of the King of Clubs from among the 35 cards left! 5 Youth Services (Tysiak): Prepared & served food at Poestenkill School s Science Fair, netting about $600, requested to be given to the Holiday Food & Toy Program. Committee recommends donating $300 to WSL School s Carnival. Committee recommends not donating to the District-wide Girl Scout Dinner as requested because funds would not go to the local scouts. OLD BUSINESS -- none NEW BUSINESS 1. $200 donation approved to AP Youth Soccer League in lieu of selling water at games. 2. Chris Bradway approved for active membership as recommended. 3. Alcohol Vendor status for Summerfest approved for Uncle Marty s Adirondack Grill as he has successfully worked with SLK for 2 years at a profit for both. Offers will be made to other businesses for specialty foods of their choice, with signed contracts. SLK needs a stated policy for types of vendors at SF. 4. Requests by other groups for information tables at pasta dinners: not appropriate for several reasons. SLK should advertise EliMiNaTe project to the public. Other groups will be welcome to set up a table at Summerfest (bigger crowd). 5. Large tent request approved for Friday May 10 th for the Sand Lake Garden Club.
