Lancers Night We are excited for you to join us on Friday, February the Ralston Arena for 4H Night with the Lancers! The Lancers take on Chicago and puck drop is at 7:05 PM. You have the opportunity to purchase $12 tickets and $5 meals in advance. Deadline to purchase Friday, February 11 AM, and if I do not have your order by then, you will not be able to take advantage of this FUN event! 3 Junior Overnight What: Blast from the Past 4-H Junior Over night When: March 4-5, 2017 Where: Fremont- Mills High School, Tabor IA Time: Check in Saturday March 4 th at 4:30pm and Check Out Sunday March 5 th at 9:30 am. Cost: $20.00 per child Families with 2 or more children pay for $20 for the first child and $15 for each additional Child. First 40 will be accepted. Please mark the calendar and watch the mail as we will notify you by mail. 4 th - 6 th graders have to take the training 7 th 12 th graders have to take the test but are able to seat through the class if they would want. Taking the test you have 3 times to pass if you fail 3 times in one day you have to take the class. General 4-H Youth Opportunities: Aksarben Aksarben is moving to Grand Island, Nebraska and will no longer be held in Omaha, Nebraska. IECA Legislative Day and 4-H Public Leadership Experience IECA Legislative Day and 4-H Public Leadership Experience The Iowa Extension Council Association is hosting their annual legislative day in Des Moines on February 28, As a part of our legislative day this year, the association is inviting our 4-Hers to receive more information about the legislative process. One 4-Her from each county will have the opportunity to meet with legislators, tour the Capital, and learn about the legislative process and what bearing it has on Iowa State Extension and Outreach. An extension council member from your county will accompany the 4-Her to serve as a mentor that day. Each Extension Council will be responsible for selecting the 4-Her that will represent their county. 4-Hers must be available to attend the legislative day on February 28. The Iowa Extension Council Association encourages an application process to assist with this selection. Applications will be reviewed by the county Extension Council and the Council will select the 4-H member delegate, along with an alternate, to represent the county. 6 Free Meat Goat: 4-H and FFA members who attend the Tall Corn Meat Goat Sale will be eligible to win a meat goat club wether. The sale will be at the Kalona Sale Barn, Kalona, Iowa. April 1, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The wether won will be eligible to compete in the Tall Corn Meat Goat Futurity and open show in Washington, Iowa in August. Only this wether or wethers purchased at this sale are eligible to compete in the jackpot wether class for the $3000 in prize money. There will also be does and bucks selling at the sale after the wethers. Anyone who purchases a goat at the sale will get a free ticket for the 2017 Meat Goat Extravaganza! One of the ways we encourage our young people in this aspect of agriculture is through our Share-A-Kid program. Winning applicants are selected from the essays they send in. This statewide contest is open to those between the ages of 10 and 17 years of age, and who are a member of IDGA, 4-H, FFA, or other agricultural groups. We can only award one goat per family per year; however, siblings are encouraged to apply. Please read all rules and regulations.
