1 Okfuskee County 4-H Newsletter Healthy Living Day Camp July 11, :30am-3:00pm Where: Okfuskee County Fair Building Commons Area Ages: 9-13 This Day Camp is open to all youth in Okfuskee County. You do not have to be enrolled in 4-H to participate during healthy living day camp. During camp, participants will learn/ participate in: Get fit 4 life Make Smoothies with our 4-H Blender Bike Yoga for Kids **RSVP by July 7th by calling the Okfuskee County Extension Office or by ing Amanda Tresslar at atressl@okstate.edu 2017 OkLin 4-H Camp This year s theme was Charging Today to Power Tomorrow. Okfuskee County had 19 kids attend camp. Workshops focused on things that could be entered in the fair. Such as candle holders, fabric crafts, tie dye handkerchiefs, and hanging string spheres. 2 Cloverbud Day Camp When: July 31 3:00pm Registration Due: July 14 th Ages 5-8 The day camp is designed to be a fun and educational summer experience for our Cloverbuds! ***Cloverbud day camp is open to all Okfuskee County youth ages 5-8 years old Camp participants are expected to bring their own sack lunch on July 31st. County Fair Dates: September 7-11, 2017 Attention 4-H member s County Fair will be here before you know it. It s time to start thinking about what projects you want to bring to the fair. Fair Books are now available at the OSU Extension Office. Upcoming Events Healthy Living Day Camp July 11 th Jr. Roundup July 17 th Senior State 4-H Roundup July Cloverbud Day Camp July 31 st Registration Due: July 14 County Officer Interviews August 2 nd Achievement Banquet August 12 th Set up Aug. 11 th Tulsa State Fair Tulsa State Fair: September 28th October 8th Livestock entries and payment must be submitted online by midnight September 1st.Online entries open on August 1st. If you nominated, that does NOT constitute as an entry. Each animal must also be entered in the Tulsa State Fair by the entry deadline, September 1, to be eligible to show. Animals that must be nominated: Market Steers, Commercial Heifers, Market Barrows, Breeding Gilts, Market Lambs, Commercial Ewes, Wether Goats, and Breeding Does. Don t forget if you are showing poultry, rabbits, and other non-nominated animals, they will have to be entered online as well. Horse Show Entries: All entries and payment must be submitted online by midnight, September 1st. Online entries open August 1st. Please contact the office if you have any questions. 3 OKC State Fair The Oklahoma City State Fair is September Online Registration is now open Livestock Entries are due no later than August 15, Horse Events: Online registration is now open for all horse events. Before entering in any horse events, I would make sure to read over all guidelines. **By going to the website listed below you will be able to find additional information on any event, with rules and guidelines for the Oklahoma City State Fair. County Officer Applications Applications are due July 24 th Interviews are August 2 nd As we round out our last few months of the H year, it is time to start gearing up for the H year. It is time to select our new County Officer Team for the new 4-H year. This year we are changing how we select our County Officer Team. If you are interested in trying to become a part of the Okfuskee County Officer Team, you will need to turn in an application and go through an interview process before being selected as an officer. **We have applications available here in the office or can be printed off at the Okfuskee County Website H Enrollment We only have two months left in the H year. So please keep in mind that on September 1 st you will have to re-enroll for the H year. Starting September 1 st you can bring us your new enrollment form to the office or if you would like to you can enroll online at: ***If you are bringing a form to the office, please make sure to bring in your completed form and enrollment fee together. 4 4-H Enrollment Fee Scholarship This year our County OHCE group is offering ten, $20 scholarships to youth to help pay for their enrollment fee for the H program year. Those 4-H members wanting to be considered for the scholarship: Must complete and turn in an enrollment form and a request for assistance form to the County Extension Office. (these forms can be found in the county office) Membership Scholarships are available September 1 st September 30 th. First 10 youth that have all requirements turned in will receive a scholarship. Okfuskee County Achievement Banquet When: August 12, 2017 Where: Okfuskee County Fair Building Commons Area Time: 6:00pm RSVP By: August 4 th Make sure to mark your calendars for this year s 4-H Achievement Banquet. This year we are moving the banquet from the Oakes Elementary School to the Okfuskee County Fair Building in the commons area. Please come out and help celebrate all the hard work our Okfuskee County 4-H members have done throughout the year. Please call the Okfuskee County Extension Office or Amanda Tresslar to RSVP that you are coming to the banquet. Please RSVP by August 4 th so we have an idea of how many people will be attending the banquet On-TRAC At this meeting we will be going through all of the trainings needed for the new 4-H year along with OnTrac and Parent Officer Elections, and turning in volunteer forms for current and new volunteers. **If you know of anyone that is wanting to become a volunteer, please let them know about this meeting. 5 10 Steps to Quality 4-H Project Work 1. Commitment to accomplishing goals. 2. Devote time to 4-H. 3. Have an objective outside resource person. 4. Encourage group projects and activities as member matures. 5. Beware of burnout. 6. Plan around known conflicts. 7. Be creative! Think big! Look for opportunities! Reach out and include others! 8. Ask serious questions: a. Is the activity important enough to justify the time it takes? b. Who will benefit from what I am planning? c. Do my community service activities deal with real needs and issues? d. What are my motives? 9. Expect setbacks and adjust accordingly. 10. Encourage personal growth- stretch!
