1 WISCONSIN RIVER WOODCARVERS INC NEWSLETTER MAY, 2017 On May 10, 2017 at 7 pm, President, Greg Wirtz called the Wisconsin River Woodcarvers Inc. to order. The Club met at The First Congregational United Church of Christ at nd Street in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Minutes of previous meeting were read by Secretary Sophie Kubisiak. 25 members were present. Clark Snyder, made a motion to accept the minutes as read, Ron Peters second the motion. All in favor. FINANCIAL REPORT Deleted for web newsletter. SUNSHINE REPORT If an immediate family member passes away, or a member is in the hospital, please contact Marion O Kray at or ron.marion@charter.net. Sunshine report added in notes for club meeting. SEMINARS The Adina Huckins seminar will be September 18, 19, & 20, 2017 prior to the show. We have (9) students signed up for the class. Adina needs minimum of (10) students and maximum of (12) students for the class. The cost of the class is $ plus roughout. Registration form is included. The Dylan Goodson seminar will be September 26, 27, & 28, 2017 just after the show. We have {10} students signed up for the class. Dylan needs minimum of (6) students and maximum of (10) students for the class. The cost of the class is $ for Wisconsin River Woodcarvers club members and $ for nonclub members plus roughout. Dylan has sent information on his class and pictures of class projects. This information is posted on our website Registration form is included. OLD BUSINESS The Little owls that Sophie challenged you on are coming in, I have collected roughly 240 little owls. You have until May 31st to turn them in. They will be given to children and adults if we get enough, at the AWC Congress Show, June 15-18, As of right now there will be 4 prizes given The People that have joined within the last year once again, have asked us all to wear our name tags, they would like to talk to us instead of saying Hey You, so who ever has a name tag wear it, others would like a class on making a tag, I will get some paper tags to wear in the meantime.

2 NEW BUSINESS Greg asked if we wanted to donate again this year for 2018 Congress show as we have in previous years. Sophie Kubisiak made a motion to donate the same amount of $ to be used in a certain class to be determined at a later date. Chet James 2 nd it. All in favor. Greg asked if we wanted another summer picnic, the vote was yes, Bill Day nominated Marion O kray to be in charge. Marion wasn t there but, said if no one else will do it she will. It will be on July 12, 2017, Wednesday. It will be at the South Park in Wisconsin Rapids. The club will purchase chicken and it will be a Pot Luck and bring your own beverage. Either see or call Marion as to what you will be bring. Social hour starts at 5 pm and dinner at 6pm. Greg got pattern for Comfort Angels [ Angels of Hope] he will be cutting some out and if you want to do some and donate them to club, we could give to people that can use some hope and comfort. Let Greg know if you want some. Don t forget there are still a few Nativity pieces to carve. Do Not stain them. If you have a lamp segment, hand them in to Ron, now these have to be stain, painted, done. Door prizes were donated by Chet James, Thank you very much. Due to so many Officers and folks attending AWC Congress June 9 th thru the 18 th, we will be holding next month s meeting a week later. June 21th, Clark Snyder made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Diane Swiggum second. All in favor.

4 WISCONSIN RIVER WOODCARVERS ADINA HUCKINS SEMINAR Adina Huckins of West Fork, AR will be conducting a (3) day woodcarving class in carving a female face or bust prior to our show in Adina has been carving for 20 years and has taught and shown her work extensively. She comes from a family that has carved wood for three generations. Her goal is to capture a story or an emotion with her pieces that someone can relate to and connect with. Check out her website Adina needs minimum of (10) students and maximum of (12) students for the class. 5 WISCONSIN RIVER WOODCARVER DYLAN GOODSON SEMINAR Dylan Goodson will be conducting a (3) day seminar with a choice of (4) projects. They are Sea Captain, Millhouse, North Woods Cabin & Viking. Roughout will cost between $35.00 & $ Meals are not included. WHAT TO BRING: 8mm or 10mm skew, #3-12mm, #5-3mm. #5-10mm, #11-3mm, #11-8mm & 3mm or 5mm V-tool.
