Graduates participating in graduation are required to dress up for this dignified occasion. See Mrs. Collier or Mrs. Siller if you have any questions. 3 BAND NEWS DCSC took 11 band events to Solo and Ensemble in January. Students received 9 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals. Junior Jesse Ryder received a Gold Medal in Group I and qualified to compete at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival. The spring government classes will be hosting a "Meet the Candidates Night" on April 26th starting at 6 pm. Candidates from the local, county, state and federal primaries will be invited to speak. Refreshments will be served at intermission. The event will be held in the auditorium for the speeches and in the cafeteria for the candidates meet and greet. Come on out! DCHS Student Ashley Houk Competes in Westminster Dog Show When I am not at school, I attend dog conformation shows. I show an Australian Shepherd. He is a blue merle and his name is Sheldon. A few weeks ago I had the privilege to show at the biggest show in the country, the Westminster Dog Show that is held in New York City. To be able to show at this venue in the Junior Handling completion is by invitation only. To be invited, a Junior must receive seven Best Junior Handler designations within the qualifying year. At Westminster there were four preliminary groups of Juniors, with approximately 24 Junior Handlers per group. There were over 90 invited Juniors that attended! Sheldon and I were in the first preliminary group, and we were lucky enough to have been selected as one of only two Juniors per group to be in the Junior Handling Finals that took place at Madison Square Garden. I am so thankful to have such a devoted dog like Sheldon and to have such a great bond with him. Sheldon and I have had to work very hard to become the team we are, and we have learned how to work well together. Sheldon has made so many of my dreams come true and I can t thank him enough.

4 STUDENT OF THE MONTH January 2018 Jackson Swisher has been named January s Student of the Month by the Office Staff. Our student of the month Jackson Swisher, has a keen sense of time. Jackson has two passions, one of which is world history and the other is running. Jackson is an excellent student, he currently has earned a GPA of 3.78 and acquired 12 college credits. When Jackson graduates this year, he will have earned 15 credits giving him the advantage of having one semester complete, so he will be able to register ahead of his classmates. Jackson Swisher Student of the Month is an award based on a person s good citizenship, character, service, honesty, and all around good behavior. There is no academic or athletic excellence required to be nominated for this award. Jackson, has been extremely successful in his running in both track and cross country. In fact, this fall, Jackson was able to advance all the way to the semi -state meet. He hopes to use these talents when he heads off to college. Jackson has decided to attend North Central of Chicago. Jackson will be signing his national letter of intent to continue his running career next week. When he attends college, Jackson hopes to turn his love of history and writing into a career in law. He believes that his love of writing will make him an outstanding corporate lawyer. As he enters into the world of work after college, Jackson has an excellent work ethic, and that is due to him watching his father. He has a great deal of admiration for his father for how hard he has worked to be successful in his job. Jackson indicated that he has set a great example. With his love of history and his desire to keep moving forward, Jackson remember this quote from Dwight Eisenhower, Neither a wise man nor a brave man lies down on the tracks of history to wait for the train of the future to run over him. Congratulations Jackson on being our January student of the month.

5 NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST WEEK Parents, March 5th-9th is National School Breakfast Week. This week was started in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of the school breakfast program. Danville schools offer breakfast at all grade levels. At our elementary schools, the students take a grab and go breakfast from the cafeteria and then eat in the classrooms. This allows the students more time to finish eating without rushing. At the middle and high school, there are up to 10 different entrees to choose from, including different breakfast sandwiches, cereals, breakfast bars, yogurt, and french toast. All of our items are whole grain rich and cereals are reduced sugar. Breakfast prices are $1.50 or $.40 for reduced. Meals come with an entree, fruit, juice, and milk. To celebrate National School Breakfast Week, three new breakfast entrees will be featured, including french toast bites, sausage and cheese pita pocket, and Pillsbury chocolate filled crescent. Students who participate in school breakfast during National School Breakfast week will also get their names entered into a daily drawing to win prizes.

6 POST PROM INFORMATION Post Prom is seeking a few good men! We need some additional men and their trucks to help us pick up and delivery the decorated Johnny/ Penelope Prom Potty's for our fundraiser the month of April. We need someone to coordinate the pick up and deliveries also. If you are available to help, please postpromdchs@gmail.com This is a fun and profitable fundraiser but it will need some men to help us! Next Post Prom meeting will be Sunday March 4th at 7:30pm at the Danville Fire Station by Kroger. Please plan to attend and bring your friends along! Prom will be May 5th and we have many areas that need help! Remember, many hands make light work! Hope to see you there! Spring is arriving, so don't be caught without your umbrella! Buy yours today before they run out! Cost is $25. Come support Post Prom at Los Patios Thursday March 8th for dine in or carry out! Encourage your student to participate in the Post Prom t-shirt design contest!!! Design forms are available in the office. Designs are due March 14th at 4pm at the HS office. Students will be voting March Approved designs will earn 10 tickets towards Post Prom prizes and the winner will receive 20!! Post Prom theme is Saturday Night Live with splashes of Cinco de Mayo. Post Prom will have our very own version of the Saturday Night Live show during post prom. We need your help to make this happen! See next page for more details. Post Prom will be offering personalized Congratulation signs for our seniors! Watch for the order form soon!

7 Dear parent, community member or staff member, DCHS Post Prom Committee is currently working on plans to provide a post prom that is in a controlled, safe environment, is drug and alcohol free and we need YOUR help! 2018 Post Prom will be held Saturday, May 5 th, from midnight to 3 a.m. at DCHS. The theme this year is Saturday Night Live. We are planning to have our own version of the Saturday Night Live show complete with an MC, band and skits. The show will be in the auditorium from 2:15-2:45 a.m. WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are asking you to participate in a 2-3 minute skit, either a remake of a SNL skit or you can create a new one! You will need to have your own costumes and props. We will be having popular SNL scenes set up in the Warrior Hallway for photo opportunities with the kids and some of those items could be used in your skit if logistics can be worked out. We are asking you to be in your costume and converse with the kids from midnight until the show starts at 2:15 a.m. to add to our theme. If you would rather just arrive to participate in your skit, due to being the middle of the night, we can accommodate that, too!! We are also looking for an MC for the show portion and would like a band to perform. You do not need to be a professional, just be part of the fun! So, come on out and help us make a memorable evening for our students. The kids would love to see you in a different manner whether you were one of their elementary teachers, current teacher, prominent community member or parent.
