4 4-H Babysitting Basics DATE: December 20th, 2017 Time: 9 AM 3 PM Mason County Extension Office Fee: $ US 68 Maysville Pre-Registration REQUIRED For Youth, Ages 12 & up Space is LIMITED to first 20 registrations! Our focus will be on learning babysitting safety and how to turn your babysitting skills into a business for some extra cash! There is a $10.00 fee to cover partial cost of supplies and lunch. Lunch will be pizza so if your child has a food allergy please pack a lunch for them. Participants will go home with some great tools for starting up or enhancing their current babysitting business! 6 Simply put, Kentucky s 4-H program wouldn t exist without its thousands of volunteers. In every part of the state, 4-H volunteers coordinate 4-H community clubs, lead 4-H projects, and help to plan and conduct local, regional, state, and national 4-H events. As a 4-H volunteer you might... Help 4-Hers develop life skills by leading a 4-H project in a subject area that excites you forestry, fishing, fashion, foods, farm animals, and many more project specialties. Teach workshops at a summer camp or special event for youths or military families. Share your favorite hobby or skill. Judge at the county fair or at livestock events. If you have expertise in a 4-H project area and would like to be considered as a judge, please contact our office. Manage a 4-H community club. Schedule club meetings, train club officers, recruit parents to help out, be the communication link between your club and the extension office. Be an Operation: Military Kids volunteer. Work with local youth groups to plan fun and educational opportunities for youths from military families. Help with family camps. Host visiting 4-Hers or their chaperones in your home for a month-long summer stay or for yearlong school exchanges. Help with 4-H fundraising. Contact our office or Kentucky 4-H Foundation to learn more. Become a certified club instructor Mentor youth as an adult counselor at North Central 4-H Summer Camp! And much more! We are always looking for new program ideas and for NEW VOLUNTEERS to lead those programs. If you are interested in volunteering with our 4-H Program, please contact our office to discuss ways that you may be interested in volunteering.

7 Attention Educators! If you are looking for a fun, hands-on learning opportunity for your classroom that correlates with grade standards and KY CORE, contact 4-H agent Mary Jane Little to schedule a meeting to see what 4-H can do for you! We offer an array of university research-based curriculum from STEM to parliamentary procedure, communications, cooking, healthy eating/moving, babysitting, and more! Please Mary Jane at: maryjane.little@uky.edu or call our office (606) for more information! Communications Contest Join Mason County in participating in our Communications Contest! Youth will have the choice of presenting a speech, individual demonstration, team demonstration, or power point in a county-wide competition. Winners will advance to State! Youth may present about any topic maybe a cooking demonstration, how to survive the zombie apocalypse power point, or how to upcycle a worn out item into something new and fresh! The possibilities are endless. If you are interested please contact the Extension office.

8 Cloverbud Club will have its next meeting December 21st from 5:30-6:30 at the Extension Office. This is a free event for 5-8 year olds and their parents. If you have any questions please contact Mary Jane Little at: maryjane.little@uky.edu or by phone (606) COUNTRY HAM If you are interested in curing a ham please contact our office so we may get you a ham contract. The cost for 4-Hers is $60 for two hams, and $40 for adults. Contracts will be due to the Extension office December 4th and payment due December 8th. 9 BASKET MAKING CLUB We are very excited to present a Basket Making Club to begin in February! The club will meet in Old Washington at Washington Hall every other week on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. If you have any questions or would like to register please contact the Extension office to get signed up. This is a free club! SEWING CLUB 4-H Sewing Club will begin in February and will meet at the Extension office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:30. If you are 9-18 years old and are interested in participating keep a look out for more information to come! Kids will make an array of projects that may be entered into the county and state fair for a chance to win a ribbon and money! If you have questions please contact our office.

10 Shooting Sports will have its first meeting for NEW MEMBERS ONLY on January 25th at 6:00 PM at the Extension Office. This meeting will cover the safety and handling procedures. There will be a meeting in February for all members to complete enrollment forms so keep an eye out for those dates! Hope to see you there! 11 ENGINEERING/ELECTRIC CLUB We are proud to announce that we will be starting an engineering/electric club in Mason County! This opportunity is for youth aging 9-18 years old. Projects completed may be entered into the fair, or you may choose to compete in a communications contest in the Spring. 13 The dates Mason County will be attending 4-H Summer Camp at North Central this year are July 12-15th! Keep a look out for applications, and if you are interested in joining us as an Adult Counselor please contact our office. As an adult counselor you have the power to change a child s life through positive life experience, leadership, and youth development. If you are interested in being on a fundraising committee for camp scholarship funds please contact our office. North Central 4-H Camp, is located in Carlisle, KY. on 350 acres of rolling hills and forested land near Lake Carnico. North Central serves 27 counties and can accommodate 358 campers and counselors in its heated cabins and bath houses plus 24 in the outpost for primitive camping. The camp offers a heated dining hall; shelter house; heated and cooled multipurpose building; restored, historic log cabin, country store for souvenirs and snacks and swimming pool with waterslide. Program facilities include rifle and archery ranges, bird blind for nature classes, observation bee hive, low and high ropes, challenge course, basketball, volleyball and athletic field. The six acre lake offers opportunities for fishing, canoeing, paddle boating, pond studies and hiking in nature classes. The shelter house and the lakeside campfire area are perfect for evening programs and special events.
