Office 4-H VOLUNTEER LEADER TRAINING Every certified 4-H Volunteer Leader must receive 4 hours of training annually. We encourage any adult interested in working with our youth to mark their calendar and make this important training opportunity. Tuesday, January 16th at the Extension Office. 307 American Road. Because we know most of you work, the meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Please try to attend. REMINDER You must re-enroll by the end of this year in order to continue to receive the 4-H Newsletter. HOW TO BE A MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING To maintain your 4-H membership in you must: 1. Enroll in Arkansas 4-H On-Line (if you need help call (870) or ask a certified 4-H Volunteer Leader. 2. Attend a minimum of 6 organized club meetings per year with a recognized club in your County. 3. OR attend and participate in a minimum of 6 educational workshops or clinics conducted by Extension Staff and Volunteer Leaders. (Dates to be announced) 4. Follow all rules and regulations set forth in the 4-H Code of Conduct (Members sign when enrolling) A Certified or chartered 4-H Club must: 1. Be organized and supervised by a minimum of 2 unrelated certified 4-H Adult Volunteer Leaders. (Leaders are required to attend 4 hours of youth development training each year). 2. A club must have at least 6 members not of the same immediate family. 3. Have a duly elected set of functioning officers and conduct meetings monthly (as possible) using Roberts Rules of Order and operate under a set of approved By-Laws (Union County has a set in place. 2

6 Teen Quorum Court Opportunity Union County Judge, Mike Loftin has offered to host the November 4-H Teen Leader club meeting at the Union County Courthouse. During this meeting, Teen 4-H members will learn about our County Government, how ordinances come to be, responsibilities of Justices and other offices of the County Courthouse. Day at the Courthouse will be November 14th at 5:30 pm. Any Union County 4-H members (14 years of age and up) are encouraged to attend this meeting. This day will take the place of Teen Leader Club s regular November meeting date. If you plan to attend this event, please call and let Mrs. Brittany or Mr. Robin know at We look forward to sharing this activity with you. RECORD BOOKS It s time to start gathering pictures and calendars of what you have accomplished during the past year. Your 4-H record book is proof of all you have done. 4-H records are the doorway to: TROPHIES TRIPS SCHOLARSHIPS Start working on your records over the holidays. Workshops: November 2nd, 9th and 16th 5 pm-6:30 pm Union County Sew with Cotton Contest Winner of Union County Farm Bureau Sew with Cotton was Anna F. She placed first in Non-garment and garment, which made her the Overall winner as well. Her garment went on to win Best in Show at the Union County Fair. 6

7 WHAT: Citizenship Washington Focus a citizenship and leadership program WHY: Experience the grandeur of our nation s capital with its historic sites, memorials, and museums Engage in a meaningful dialogue with their peers from across the country on issues are most important to them Plan and lead large scale events during the week at CWF from conception to execution Practice interpersonal communication and cross-cultural competency as leaders of positive change Visit with State Congressmen and Senators WHO: Arkansas 4-H ers ages WHEN: July 7-14, 2018 WHERE: National 4-H Center, (Chevy Chase, MD) Washington D.C. REGISTRATION FEE: The registration fee of $ covers the program cost, transportation, state s night out, delegation photo, CWF t-shirt, souvenir backpack, water pouch, and sunglasses. Registration is on 4-H Online. 7
