Lunch Menus Available Online Curious as to what is for lunch tomorrow but can't find the menu that went home in your student's Tuesday folder? October's menu is available online! November's Menu Online All Corrections & Late/Missing Work Due 11/17 Corrections and late/missing work is due by Friday, Nov. 17th. Corrections or late/missing work from the first trimester will not be accepted after this date. Also note that after all work is due, there will be no weekly math reports until the beginning of the second trimester. Equal Exchange Orders Due 11/17 One of our biggest fundraisers of the year is going on right now. Students have catalogs with great items for holiday gifts or simply to treat yourself. Orders are due no later than Friday, November 17th. Upcoming Field Trip We have a field trip to Sherar's Falls on the Deschutes River on Tuesday, November 20th. Permission slips went home today in Tuesday folders and are due by Friday, November 17th. 2 Trimester End is 11/30 The end of the first trimester is November 30th. Report cards will come out the following week. Next Assembly to Celebrate Students will be on 12/15 Come join us on Friday, December 15th to celebrate our students in the gym at 7:40 AM. Students Working On Salmon Civilization Plan for the Future Consider donating to the Mosier New School Fund Donate Here Homework Reminder Reading logs are due every Tuesday and spelling homework is due on Friday (Thursday for weeks we are not at school on Friday). Please encourage your student to turn in assignments on time. Homework clubs and study halls are available for those students who need a little extra support in getting their homework finished and turned in on time. 5 One of the activities during our Maryhill Museum trip was to explore different objects and how they cast shadows. Mr. Rutledge's Class' Holiday Cards to 9 Year Old Jacob, a Boy Diagnosed With Neuroblastoma

6 9 Year old Jacob Simard has terminal neuroblastoma and is focused on spending his last days with his family in the hospital. Not sure if he will make it to Christmas, his family has planned an early holiday to celebrate with him in his hospital room. The only thing on Jacob's Christmas list is holiday cards to decorate his room. Mr. Rutledge's class each made a card for Jacob and they were sent to his hospital in Maine. 11 Letter from the Director Hello Mosier Community It s amazing to think that we are already nearly a third of the way through the school year. Students have started to settle in to routines, our first big class projects are all beginning to wrap up and we are just a few weeks away from the close of our first grading period in the first week of December. As we all begin to prepare to spend time with family and friends over the holidays I have spent a lot of time thinking about the presence of the word Community in the title of our school. While many schools are called and consider themselves Community Schools, I don t know that I have ever seen a school where the community is so thoroughly integrated into the school, it s certainly one of the most special things about our school. Whether it is school-based events that are open to the community and well attended like our winter and spring performances, our family nights, or the Thanksgiving Luncheon; or community events that happen at the school, like the upcoming Christmas Fair, the annual picnic on the lawn put on my Main Street Mosier, or the recent concert at the school telling the story of the oil derailment; or the school as a hub for meetings for Team Mosier, city planning projects and more, Mosier Community School wholly lives up to its name. And those events do not even touch upon the presence and dedication of the community at large to the school. Community members regularly take time out of their schedule to come to our board meetings, volunteer in the school, take part in our strategic planning work, and serve on our board. I feel very fortunate to be part of such an engaged and supportive community and to be a school that so openly welcomes the community inside its doors. From an educational standpoint it is a powerful message to our young people that so many are engaged and committed to their success and serves as such a meaningful extension for our Place Based philosophy as a school. Below is a snapshot of many of the opportunities coming up in the next two months to be involved. Our web calendar is also a great way to stay up to date on all the happenings at our school. Thursday, November 16 th Mosier School Thanksgiving Alumni Luncheon The Alum of our school are welcomed back each year for the Thanksgiving Luncheon, this year it will take place this Thursday from 10:30 AM 1 PM at the school. Alum, please come join us for some wonderful food and some time with our kiddos. If you are interested in attending please RSVP to Susan Vallie at susan@nwasco.k12.or.us Thursday, November 23 rd Turkey Trot Join us for our annual Twin Tunnels Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning from 10 AM -1 PM. The run is both a great community event and a fundraiser for afterschool clubs and extracurricular opportunities. Check in starts at 8:45 AM, race begins at 10 AM. 12 information contact Rebecca Thistlethwaite at or (831) Saturday, December 2 nd Sunday, December 3 rd Mosier Country Christmas Fair Come to the school for the annual Mosier Country Christmas Fair! It is a great opportunity to purchase local goods, engage with our community and support the school! Thursday, December 7 th The legendary Mosier School Winter Performance and Family Night Come join us on the evening of Thursday, December 7 th for the Mosier performance of The Hobbit: An unexpected version. There are two performances this day, the first is at noon and the second at 6:30 PM. There is no charge for admission. Also on the 7 th is our first K-5 family night of the year. This is a great opportunity to come see the culminating projects of the K-1 and 4-5 Place Based themes and the 2-3 reader s theater performances. Please come join us before the performance! Friday, December 15 th Our monthly celebration of student work and community. Come join us for our monthly celebration, at 7:45 AM on the 15 th. Students will present their work, perform a skit on our monthly character trait (enthusiasm!) and be led in song by Betsy Harmon! Open to the public. Upcoming No School Days we have a number of no school days coming up to be mindful of including, please pay particular attention to the change in schedule of both Thanksgiving and winter breaks from previous years. Both breaks start on a Wednesday this year. Wednesday, November 22 nd -Friday, November 24 th Thanksgiving Break note this is not a full week off as it has been in the past, only Wednesday Friday. December 1 st Teacher Grading Day December 8 th Teacher Professional Development Day December 20 th January 2 nd Winter Break note, the break begins on a Wednesday, we do have school on December 18 th and 19 th.
