This is a direct correlation for organizing and streamlining our club. I can't stress enough the importance of EVERYONE (current and prospective members) attending. For out-of-towners perhaps one of our local members would be willing to take a phone video of the presentations and then forward. 3 On August 1 st we had two fantastic speakers that were there to help us Understand Rotary Better. First Darryl Keys spoke to us about membership and DACdb. Due to technical difficulties we weren t able to see his presentation. A PDF copy of his presentation will be sent out with this for your review. PLEASE take the time to review this document as it has screen shots of how to get into the websites that Darryl discussed during our meeting. Some Highlights from Darryl s presentation: Membership in the US saw a decline by 5000 people. Our district had 3% growth! Most of new membership growth in Rotary is currently in Asia and India. We were the only Zone in Area 1 to show a positive membership growth last year. Darryl shared a story about Polio. In 1975 there was a Rotary Member in the Philippines that wanted to make a difference. He bought the vaccine and started to distribute it. There were 350,000 cases because of one man wanting to make a difference and involving his Rotary Club, then Rotary Worldwide, in 2017 there have only been 8 confirmed cases! in getting this done! Small Pox is the first Disease to be eradicated; Polio is a very close 2 nd to being the next eradicated Disease! Rotary Club was instrumental We are in Fine Company! There have been some pretty incredible members of Rotary in the past! Darryl also shared why members become members Fellowship, Service and Networking. After being members a few years what makes them stay? Fellowship and Service but not so much Networking! Our club members are our customers and we should work to find good valid reasons for members to stay! In the last 10 years for example we have grown our membership by 1.2 million, however we still only have

4 1.2 million members! We can help this by continuing to provide good exciting member meetings, and combine this with awesome community projects! We can also retain our aging members by allowing them to share their knowledge with us. Our club in particular is BLESSED with members that have experience that they can share and teach us. I for one am grateful to Larry Wright for his encouragement and organization skills and being a mentor as far as what he felt was important in the bulletin. (Is this a blessing or a curse? It takes a lot of time! But for me it s worth it!) After Darryl s presentation we also heard from Pete Doragh speaking about Paul Harris and how the funds collected by Rotary are used. Pete made the point that as many great ideas that we come up with, nothing will work well if we don t raise the funds! Pete explained to us that there are several ways that we can request matching funds for our projects. We have a unique situation in that our different clubs decide how they are going to spend the funds that we raise as a club. We also all contribute to a national fund. We have the ability to apply for matching grants both for local projects and Global Grants (these require us to get a club from another country to agree to cosponsor the project.) Finally, Pete shared that a vast amount of funds come from the Paul Harris Foundation. Paul Harris is our bas$1,000 in contributions. Our club is rich in Paul Harris recognitions! We are lucky to have had two very knowledgeable presenters at our club and share a wealth of knowledge!

5 We also had the pleasure of watching John Lamb receive his award of Sincere Appreciation and Recognition of Distinguished Service, Loyalty and Devotion to the Success of The Rotary Club of Naples Bay. This was presented by our former fearless Leader Wayne Dahlstrom. John had the honor of serving as our Bulletin Editor until earlier this year. Wayne feels that each time we add a new member to our group, the room changes dynamics and he is right!
