1 1 HSAP Currents DCSD Home School Assistance Program Summer 2014 Volume 8 Issue 3 Thank you! It can t be June already! We want to thank all of you for working so hard with your students this year. It has been a great year and we have seen such good progress! We couldn t believe the participation in the activities this year! We hoped you enjoyed the art lessons, ice skating, the CSI and STEM at the Putnam, the Show Choir Show-Off, the Symphony, the Ugly Duckling Ballet, the Great Lakes movie, the Augustana Museum, the Titans of the Ice Age movie, the Cinderella play, Fort Obie, the Creek Stomp, the Jerusalem movie, the Eastern Library, the Fish Hatchery, and the Grant Wood art class, We have been busy making plans for next year and have used many of the ideas that you have given us throughout the year. This issue is to give you some idea of the summer programs available in our community. Enjoy the summer and we hope to see you next fall! They will be due at the end of August. Also, if your student is dual enrolling at a Davenport school, please check with the school so that your student can begin classes on August 18th. Since our deadline is 2 weeks later, your student would miss attending classes at their school.

2 2 Davenport Libraries Kick Off The Summer! Fizz, Boom, Read runs from Saturday, May 31st to Thursday, August 2nd. Summer reading kickoff is Saturday, May 31st, from noon-4 p.m. at the Fairmount Branch Library. Summer prizes include free books, cloth library bags, and drawings for other prizes. The Discover Davenport summer Kids Pass is available again this year for $50 and is good from Memorial Day through Labor Day. It is available for students 15 years old and younger. It includes baseball games, golf, swimming, the Figge, the Putnam, and citi bus transportation Davenport Junior Track and Field Club Free for kids ages 6-14 Davenport Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Cornbelt Running Club is offering a program to be held on Monday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. at Brady Street Stadium, beginning June 9 through July 14. This is a non-competitive program to introduce children to the sport of track and field. Kids will be divided according to their age and perform activities such as hurdles, long jump, relays, sprinting and running. Treats are provided each week and medals are awarded at the end of the program. To register: call Parks and Recreation at

Family Learn How to Fish June 28th, Saturday, 9-12 noon, free at Vander Veer Park 4. Story Time Tuesdays 11-noon June 3rd-July 29th at Vander Veer Park 5. Story Time Thursdays-11-noon-6/5-8/14 at Fejervary Park 6. Summer Solstice-June 21-Free activities. Contact for locations. 7. Junteenth 2014 June 14, Saturday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. At LeClaire Park Free 8. Youthfest 7/9 Wednesday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Fejervary Park Free 9. Summer Concerts at Vander Veer Park 6:30-8 p.m. Thursdays: June 12, July 10, Aug Mobile Playground and Mobile Garden at various parks during the summer. The AEA library will be open all summer from 7:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m. except for July 3rd and 4th. Kids Bowl Free at ( ) What: Registered Kids (15 years old and younger) receive 2 free games of bowling every day. Where: Miller Time Bowling and Billiards, 2902 East Kimberly Rd. Davenport, When: May 1-August 15 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday noon-7 p.m. Rules: Child must wear bowling shoes (can rent there for $3.00). No food or drinks.
