1 Opportunities for Spring Term 2018 Volunteer Information FRIDAY, JANUARY 19, 2018 Eastside Environmental Council 1424 Franklin Street, Jacksonville, FL 8:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. The Eastside Environmental Council works to oversee environmental impact programs in the eastside of Jacksonville in order to provide an empowered and economically sustainable Urban Core Community. Help with upkeep of the school garden at Matthew W. Gilbert Middle School. Wear comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes suitable for gardening. Bring a hat, gardening tools (if available), notebook and gardening gloves (if available). 25 volunteer spots available on a first come, first served basis. Learn more: fscj.edu/events.

2 Clara White Mission 613 W. Ashley Street, Jacksonville, FL 8:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. The Clara White Mission partners with the community to prevent and reduce homelessness. Activities supported by the Clara White Mission include feeding programming, educational and job training programming, and housing programming. Daily feeding and White Harvest Farm (mulching, digging, harvesting, pruning and washing produce). 10 volunteer spots available on a first come, first served basis. Learn more: fscj.edu/events. Celestial Farms Duval Road, Jacksonville, FL 9:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. Celestial Farms commits to assisting people of all abilities to enjoy the therapeutic benefits that caring for a garden can provide. Celestial Farms hopes to achieve its goal to Grow a Brighter Future by helping to raise healthy and happy children in their summer camp program, educating the public how to grow their own food and providing a garden space for them to practice those skills. The farm has multiple gardens and animals that provide therapeutic benefits to visitors.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2018 Changing Homelessness Point in Time Count Location TBD 5 9 a.m. and 4 7 p.m. The annual Point in Time Count is a national effort to survey and develop a census of the homeless population. As a volunteer you can join a survey team, or sign up to assist with data entry after the Point in Time Count is over. There will be a training before the Count for all who plan to participate. Adams Street, Jacksonville, FL 8 a.m. 2 p.m. and 5:45 7:30 p.m. The Salvation Army is an international movement and an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. The Salvation Army provides a broad range of services including meals through Meal Ministries, emergency shelter, utility assistance, community outreach, clothing, supplemental groceries and Christmas gifts, to name a few. 8 a.m. 2 p.m. Work in the food pantry to assist with sorting, bagging and distributing food. 5:45 7:30 p.m. Serve the evening meal. 15 volunteer spots available on a first come, first served basis. Sulzbacher Center 116 E. Adams Street, Jacksonville, FL 5 8 a.m. and 3 7 p.m. The Sulzbacher Center is the largest provider of comprehensive services for the homeless in Northeast Florida. They serve over 1,500 meals to shelter residents and hungry neighbors each day. They also provide shelter to 360 individuals and health care to over 200 patients.

7 Cook and serve meals for breakfast and dinner. Ten volunteers needed to cook and 10 needed to serve for each meal. Store personal items in your locked car. Please wear shirts with sleeves, long pants and close-toed shoes. The kitchen staff have everything needed to volunteer, including gloves, aprons and hairnets. 20 volunteer spots available on a first come, first served basis. Learn more: fscj.edu/events. Habitat for Humanity Jacksonville 2404 Hubbard Street, Jacksonville, FL 7:45 a.m. 3 p.m. Habitat for Humanity Jacksonville is a nonprofit housing organization whose vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with local families and volunteers to build and rehabilitate simple, decent homes for qualified families in need. They also offer college scholarships, after school tutoring and rewards for academic excellence for their partner families. Work onsite for a home currently under construction. More details about the type of work to be completed will be communicated closer to the day of service.

8 Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes, dress appropriately for outside weather (long pants encouraged), clothes you do not mind getting dirty and It is encouraged that volunteers leave their jewelry at home and bring a handkerchief or scarf to cover your head under the hard hat (if needed). Habitat for Humanity ReStore rd Street, Jacksonville, FL 9:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. and 2 6 p.m. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently-used appliances, home accessories, furniture, building materials and more to the public for a fraction of the retail price. ReStores are owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity organizations which use the proceeds to build homes and improve communities locally and around the world. Processing donations, sorting and pricing items and customer service. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes, no sleeveless or mid-drift exposed shirt, long pants or shorts, and 10 volunteer spots available on a first come, first served basis. 9 Beaches Habitat for Humanity 797 Mayport Road, Atlantic Beach, FL 8 a.m. noon (arrive by 7:45 a.m.) Beaches Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in the Jacksonville Beaches. Beaches Habitat works in partnership with local families and volunteers to build and rehabilitate simple, decent homes for qualified families in need. They also offer college scholarships, after-school tutoring and rewards for academic excellence for their partner families. Work onsite for a home currently under construction. SATURDAY, MARCH 17, 2018 Groundwork Jacksonville 398 W. 4th Street, Jacksonville, FL 10 a.m. noon Groundwork Jacksonville is the primary nonprofit organization committed to environmental restoration and stewardship of the streams and parks of Jacksonville s Emerald Necklace. Clean up Hogan s Creek in historic Springfield. Wear closed-toe shoes, long pants and a hat, as well as bring a reusable water bottle. Gloves, trash bags and water refill stations will be provided. Rethreaded 820 Barnett Street, Jacksonville, FL 1 4:30 p.m. Rethreaded employs survivors of human trafficking locally and globally through business, including upcycled scarf making, jewelry and much more. Assist with stripping leather seats to prep the leather to go into production, sort t-shirts and other preproduction tasks as needed. 25 volunteer spots available on a first come, first served basis. 16 Youth Crisis Center 3015 Parental Home Road, Jacksonville, FL 1 5 p.m. Youth Crisis Center is one of the largest providers of services for runaway, displaced and troubled youth and their families. JASMYN 923 Peninsular Place, Jacksonville, FL 9 a.m. 1 p.m. JASMYN is a nonprofit youth services organization for LGBTQ young people ages JASMYN provides safety net services, health services, advocacy services and community impact. Outdoor tasks, including landscaping, clean up, weeding, raking and washing outdoor furniture. Indoor tasks, including organizing the food/hygiene pantry, kitchen clean up and stocking the pantry.

These materials are distributed free to public school teachers to enhance instruction in their classroom and promote student achievement.
