1 From Hawaii to Japan. Once again the Barooga Sporties Club was the venue for the District Changeover Dinner. The dinning room was a picture as the tables reflected the spirit of Japan with fans and Geisha Girls adorning the tables. Lions, family and friends gathered to congratulate IPDG Stephen and Alison on a fantastic year and welcome DG Peter and Marg home from Japan, and wish them all the very best on their year ahead. Mayor of the Berrigan Shire, Cr Bernard Curtin, proposed a toast to Lions International, in so doing, he also thanked Lions from across the District for the tremendous work and commitment to their communities. PDG Barry Higgins thanks the Mayor for his kind words on behalf of the members of District 201V6. IPDG Steve thanked his Cabinet members for their part in an other successful year. He and Alison had enjoyed their travels across the District, visiting clubs and meeting members, learning of the many and varied projects and club activities that are carried out the name of Lions. All clubs are unique and special in their own way. It had been a fantastic year. Mahalo ~ Thank you They have hit the ground running since returning from the International Convention in Fukuoka Japan. Visiting a number of clubs already and attending Club Changeover dinners. Cabinet members, family and friends wish them a very successful year. They look forward to making DG Peter s theme a reality. 2 IPDG Steve thanked his Cabinet members for their part in a successful year. IPDG Steve acknowledged some of the outstanding service with presentations of a number of Chris August Awards : To Debbie Jans Van Corler for her work developing and promoting the new District Project Made with Love Turban Project and the fantastic Yarrawonga Turban Angels. A very proud IPDG Steve had much pleasure in presenting Alison with a Chris August Award for her work promoting Lions Sight Projects during their visits around the Clubs, Retiring Leo Chairman, Mal Evans, was presented with a District Governor s Award for his services to the Leo Program over a number of years. To Paul Shortis for his coordinating assistance to Blaze Aid and the work carried out in the area. Also the support for Change One Life program. The District Most Unusual Project Award was presented to the Lions Club of Kerang. During the building of their new club rooms, many photos were taken documenting the project. These were then placed in the club rooms, which were noted by DG Steve and Alison during their visit. One such photo carried the wording Widow Fixers!! Lions Lady Barb Higgins was also recognised with a Chris August Award for her fantastic efforts in the background for the District and MD Conventions held in Echuca. 3 The District Club of the Year was awarded to Yarrawonga, for their efforts to increase and maintain membership, the development of the Turban Project and overall growth of their Club. Due to grants obtained, they were able to improve their club rooms which are now the envy of the rest of the Clubs in the District. The District Award for the Best Newsletter was awarded to Benalla, DG Peter accepted the award on behalf of the Benalla Club. IPDG Steve explained. It may have only been small but was full of information. The award was accepted by DG Peter. Zone Chairpersons were thanked for their work in supporting their clubs and District Projects along with Cabinet members. Cabinet Secretary Julie was presented with a District Governors Star Award for her outstanding services to the DG and District over the past years. IPDG Steve finished off his thanks with a presentation to the Team Behind the DG Team who were thanked for their support and encouragement. V6 Roar - August

4 District Governor Peter and Marg were joined at the Changeover Dinner by their family, son Wayne, his wife Beth and grandchildren Mia and Wil. Also their daughter Kim and husband David. Who were proud to witness Peter take on the rains of the District. DG Peter expressed his gratitude to members on being elected to the position and spoke about his theme for the coming year. Happy Members = Happy Club and Having Fun whilst WE SERVE As Lions, we do a great deal within our communities, but we need to remember to have some fun along the way too. Strong clubs are built not just on work but on the friendships developed while serving our communities. Clubs are encouraged to look for opportunities to celebrate Lions 100 years and create a lasting Legacy in their communities. Peter and Margaret are looking forward to the challenges of the year ahead and above all, the opportunities that will come with it. The opportunity to visit all clubs in the District, to offer encouragement with their individual projects and support for District and International programs. District Governor Peter introduced his team for the coming year, with a number of new faces, he thanked all members of Cabinet for taking on their roles and wished them well for the coming year. The success of his year will depend on the job done by all members and their support of their Clubs and District Projects. DG Peter asked all members to go back to their clubs and encourage all members to attend their District Convention which will be hosted by the Lions Club of Rutherglen, 21st to 23rd October During the evening, the fans that formed part of the table decorations, which DG Peter and Marg had brought back from Japan, were auctioned off to raise a few dollars for the V6 Foundation. Aspiring Auctioneer,Wil (DG Peters grandson) took over from PDG Charlie (this was no mean feat in itself), and tried to get a few extra dollars out of the crowd. In all, over $150 was raised for the V6 Foundation. An additional $100 was donated to the foundation in stead of a gift to the District Governor. All the DG s Men & Women V6 Roar - August

5 During the evening members of the Lions Club of Kerang presented the magnificent Raffle Quilt, which is in keeping with this years Japanese theme. The quilt has been made and donated by Lions Lady Beryl Tartaglia (Kerang). The quilt will be raffled for the Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation and drawn at the District Convention in Rutherglen. Tickets will be sent to all Clubs soon CABINET On Saturday 23rd July, Zone Chairman attended training prior to the Cabinet Changeover Dinner. For some, this was their first time as Zonies, they soon found out there is a lot to their important role as liaison between the Clubs and the DG team. Junior Public Speaking Chairman Jo Guthrie and Youth of the Year Chairman Norm Walkington were on hand to provide detailed information about their portfolios, and the role of the Zone Chairman for each. PCC Andy provided lots of information that will assist the Zone Chairman with their roles. They were all assured, there is plenty of help and support available to ensure they enjoy their year. Sunday 24th July, all Cabinet members gather for their first meeting for the Lions year under the leadership of DG Peter and his team. For a number, as new Cabinet members, this may have been a little daunting, but everyone was soon put to ease and the matter of governing the District got underway. Lots to discuss and arrange for a positive outcome for the year ahead. During the afternoon, DG Peter arranged for Lincoln Budge (Change one Life program) to speak to the group. Change One Life Project is the journey of Lincoln Budge on a mission to inspire people to get up and just do it. A car accident in 2007 the night before his 22nd birthday left Lincoln a paraplegic, a result of a spinal injury leaving him with no feeling or movement from the waist down. Though in a split second life as he knew it changed his love for life, adventure and the knowing of limitless possibilities that lie within us did not. Within months of his accident, he took up water skiing quickly followed by snow skiing and in 2011 he found himself training with the Australian Paralympics team. A very inspirational young man.
