2 We are proud to be an inclusive comprehensive school. We understand that young people today have many pressures placed upon them from an early age. Our role is to create a happy, stimulating learning environment that gives every child the confidence and resilience to face these pressures head on. We have high expectations of all of our students. At The Henry Beaufort School there are no limitations to individual success. We acknowledge the fundamental role that we play in the academic and moral education of young people. We celebrate the success of our students at every opportunity and take delight in the buzz and energy around the school site well beyond the official ending of the school day. We do not accept mediocrity or complacency. We understand the challenges that accompany our role as educationalists and we continue to work to find ways to refine and improve our practise. This is underpinned by our aim to be outstanding in everything that we do.

4 The three year trend in results evidences that the school is consistently above the national average for 5 GCSE s including Maths/ English[previously known as the gold standard] We are consistently outperforming schools of a similar size and similar academic profile Our results are significantly above both the Hampshire and national average grades. We have significantly outperformed the new national average for Grade 9 s in Maths, English and English Literature There is no gender gap at GCSE. Boys and girls perform equally as well at GCSE level

9 Year 8 students follow a broad and balanced curriculum in terms of core subjects, languages, humanities, the arts, technology and PE. 11 English: Students will study: Shakespeare Poetry from our literary heritage. Draw comparisons between a range of poetry and prose. Analysis and inference skills Writing technique Creative thinking to develop original and independent viewpoints Maths: Students must bring in Maths equipment and a calculator is essential. Maths kits and calculators are available to buy from Finance. Year 8 is split into two halves, and the students are set on each half Science: Students were moved into sets at Easter of year 7 based on topic test scores- will be reviewed throughout the year Cover the key ideas of science including- cells, particles, forces and energy Revision resources KS3 science revision guides can be purchased from finance KS3 bitesize Kerboodle- online tool, students will be given a log in to this

14 Go to the website Easyfundraising.org.uk Register your support for our cause: 'Search for a retailer and select 'go shopping' If your chosen retailer is registered (and most are) the retailer will make a donation to our cause usually based on a percentage of your purchase Sometimes the individual donations may only be a few pence. Don t be put off they all add up. So far we have raised over 600 in donations from Easy Fundraising We currently have 65 members registered to donate to our cause
15 What is pupil premium? How do I apply? If parents complete a form and send it in to school, we can check their eligibility on the Hampshire Catering website. It will give an immediate answer and if it s a yes the Free School Meal markers can be applied in SIMS. If it s no then we will write to parents for further proof of their eligibility. What is the criteria? Income Support Income-based Jobseeker s Allowance Income-related Employment Support Allowance Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income, as assessed by HM Revenue and Customs, that does not exceed 16,190 Guarantee element of State Pension Credit What if my circumstances change? Hampshire Catering Service use the parents National Insurance Number to check eligibility, so when personal circumstances change a warning appears on the HCS printout the school receives daily. Once this happens a new form is sent to the parent asking for proof of their eligibility. Normally a student will remain on FSM for a further 6 weeks pending a new application. How can it help my child? Revision guides Trips Meals Tuition It s a good idea for the application to be renewed each year as this helps to keep school records up to date.

22 At Henry Beaufort we will ensure that any time spent completing home learning is engaging, effective and productive. Different subject areas will therefore set home learning in different ways to maximise time spent at home completing learning whilst adhering to the following rules: Home learning can take many forms- short tasks, longer projects, revision, home learning You will have at least 3 school evenings to complete longer home learning tasks so you can get help if you need it For subjects that you have 6 or more times a fortnight (English, Maths, Science, Languages and humanities) you will have 2 hours a fortnight For subjects you have 4 times a fortnight (Technology) you will have 1 hour a fortnight For subjects you have 2 times a fortnight (Music, Drama and Art) you will have 30 mins a fortnight Home learning that takes the form of longer tasks will be broken down into manageable chunks for your planner
