1 OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION 2018 Scholarship Application for State & National Opportunities Please type or print legibly using blue or black ink to complete the application. Applications are due to the Extension Office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, Interviews will be held by the 4-H Committee for all trip applicants on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the OSU Extension Office. Interviews will be on a first-come, first-served basis. After interviews have been held, a letter will be sent to those individuals who have been awarded a camp scholarship. At that time, it is the camper s responsibility to register, retrieve information and send payment as needed. You can access more information about your camp, via or the Clermont County Extension office. The 4-H Committee reserves the right to limit the number of camp attendees and does not guarantee that all camps will be held every year. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously attended a state or national opportunity. If you are chosen to attend an opportunity, the Clermont County 4-H Committee will pay the registration fees, minus a deposit made by the attendee s parent or guardian. This deposit amount is typically 10 to 15% of the total camp cost. Any youth applying to attend an opportunity prior to completing their first year in 4-H may not receive more than a 50% award. The amount may be adjusted by the Clermont County 4-H Committee as needed. 4 State & National Opportunities: To apply for the Award trips listed below, please number in order of your desired preference (1 first choice, 2 second choice, etc.) Age requirements (as of 01/01/18) are also listed. For trips previously attended, write the year on the corresponding line. Preference will be given to 4-H members who have not previously attended a state or national opportunity. Preference Year attended Buckeye Leadership Workshop (ages 15+) BLW is a learning, sharing workshop intended as a balanced program of social, physical, mental and spiritual activities. In a positive and supportive atmosphere, participants are encouraged and empowered to experiment with new activities, develop new abilities, discover new interests, expand their creativity, practice and master new leadership skills, share ideas and personal skills, establish new friendships, and develop networks of human resources. Ashley, Ohio. (April 4-8) (Registration Fee: $350; Cost to Member: approximately $53). Carving New Ideas (8 th -12 th grade) Carving New Ideas is a camping opportunity for older youth, concentrating on the principles of critical thinking and program facilitation. Campers will explore hands-on workshops that encourage ideation in important areas of 4-H programming, including health, agriscience, and STEM. Participants will develop action plans to address issues within their communities using a critical thinking model for team situations. Columbus, Ohio. (Early November 2018) (Registration Fee: $65; Cost to Member: approximately $10). Citizenship Washington Focus (ages 14-19) Teens will learn about government, national events, national landmarks, citizenship and personal responsibility. Participants will stay at the National 4 H Center in Washington, D.C. (July 1-7, 2018) (Registration Fee: $1250; Cost to Member: approximately $188). Jr. Shooting Sports Education Camp (ages 9-12) Youth will participate in a wide variety of training opportunities with handson instruction and experience. Canter s Cave. (June 29 - July 1) (Registration Fee: 225; Cost to Member: approximately $34). Leadership Washington Focus (7 th -9 th grade) Teens will learn about leadership, national events, national landmarks, integrity and personal responsibility. Participants will stay at the National 4 H Center in Washington, D.C. (July 16-20) (Registration Fee: $825; Cost to Member: approximately $124).

5 Ohio 4-H Leadership Camp (ages 15-18) Teens will participate in a wide variety of programs on leadership skills, communication, and culture at 4 H Camp Ohio. (June 2-6). (Registration Fee: $280; Cost to Member: approximately $42). Camp Canopy (Formerly Ohio Forestry & Wildlife Conservation Camp) (Open to high school students who have completed the 8th grade through those graduating in 2018) Activities include sports, adventure activities, and topics focusing on dendrology, forest ecology and wildlife management. FFA Camp Muskingum. (June 10-15). (Registration Fee: $375; Cost to Member: approximately $57). Sea Camp (ages 13+) Teens will have experiential learning for youth in environmental education, recreational water safety, conservation, aquatic science, developing positive self esteem, decision making, and an appreciation of the Great Lakes as an important water resource to Ohio. Kelley s Island. (July 7-11) (Registration Fee: $385; Cost to Member: approximately $58). Space Adventure Camp (ages 11-13) Campers will have the opportunity to explore the world of flight and science as you build and test flying machines, conduct computer flight simulations, learn about the principles of aerodynamics and gain an overview of the development of the space flight program. Marietta, Ohio. (June 19-21) (Registration Fee: $199; Cost to Member: approximately $30). Sr. Shooting Sports Education Camp (ages 12-18) Teens will participate in a wide variety of training opportunities with hands on instruction and experience. Canter s Cave. (July 8-13) (Registration Fee: $325; Cost to Member: approximately $49).
