2 RD s Message Dear Ys Families Greetings from the Region! I'm in indeed happy to be invited to your First District council and to launch a project based on the RDs theme ENGAGE -EDUCATE- EMPOWER and on the same occasion your District is bringing out the first edition of the District bulletin. In such a short span of my installation on the 10th of June, I'm really proud that so much has been completed and achieved by our Region and especially with the leadership of your senior Ys Leaders & fantastic support of your district and the yeomanship of the Ys.Men, Ys.Menettes, Ys.Youth and Ys.Lings. Our region has to be nourished and nurtured by the cooperation of all the clubs under the leadership of your DG Ysm Mohan Daniel and the district team. I'm sure all the clubs will stand by him and give all the support for this Ys year which has begun so well by completing all Club installations on time. The IHQ commitments should be met on time and this is our goal for the year and with exemplary leadership at club level I'm sure this will not be a difficult task at all. The senior leaders of the district have to play a more vital role and take on greater responsibilities to grow the membership and contribution to the Region. I request all of you during the year to stand together as one and take a pledge to commit more time and more resources to reach out and grow your District and our Region to be more strong and dynamic in the coming years. On behalf of the Regional team I wish you all a wonderful Ys year ahead with more growth in memberships and activities across Madras District. LRD s Thoughts First of all, I would like to thank all the senior members and the club leaders for electing me and extending their support. This year's District convention was a huge success with maximum number of members attending the convention. This year's event had more participation than I have seen in the recent years and the events were conducted in a very systematic and organized manner under the able leadership of the young vibrant leader, the DG, who is a very meticulous person himself. The general theme adopted for the year is focused on Education by the Regional Director and the District Governor. They have already started the steps towards it and there has been active participation and contributions from various clubs and club members. I request all the clubs to execute more projects and help this movement. The more projects we achieve it invariably helps the District and in turn the Region in achieving their goals. The Regional Director has requested to increase the membership by a minimum of 30% in the internal extensions in the clubs. Many clubs in the Madras District have already started inducting new members into the movement. I request all the clubs to follow the same and pay their subscriptions on time to avoid any dues. With all of your full hearted support Madras District can attain all success bringing glory to the District and Region by helping them achieve their goals. 3 DG s Message Dear Ys Friends I am very much delighted to write a few lines expressing my happiness on becoming your District Governor. It's a great honor to be given this position to lead a team of very dedicated Ys Men, Menettes, Youth and Lings. I know there were many District Governors who have done extremely well to take our District to great heights earlier. I humbly thank each one of them. Especially I thank my IPDG HRM Ym P K Eappen for doing everything right and to make our District sustain and grow.today we have seen a total change in the leadership styles of our Region, led by our respected HRM YmDrAnand Jacob Verghese and Team, the Region is doing amazing work to make our South India Region different, challenging and focused to serve the needy people of the society.i have come to this movement as a Ys Ling in the early 80's and have enjoyed the company of all Y's Leaders, the fun and fellowship, I cherish all those good moments. I remember my good friend Late Ym George Abraham with whom we planned and started the Y Free Meals on Wheels of the Ys East Club. I thank the support of Ys Men Club of the East and all its members for their whole hearted support to make me a District Governor and for organizing the District Conference Dream big and plan for how God might use you, but submit to God's will and seek His blessing in the outworking of your plans. If God has left you on this planet, He has a purpose for you to fulfill. Perhaps due to bodily weakness, all you can do is pray. Then pray! Perhaps you can give to the cause of missions. Then give! But you may be able to do much more. Then do it! This is the calling I get from My Lord. I should do something to change the life of people who are in need. I want each one of you Ys Men, Menettes, Youth or Lings to be involved to change a life.the key focus of our District this year will be on the RD's Theme ENGAGE, EDUCATE and EMPOWER and to go forward to support that theme will be our District Theme EACH ONE-TEACH ONE. A major permanent project is in the pipeline. Our district needs to focus on this major project which I will announce shortly, we are planning a fund raising activity to fulfill this dream of our District. I invite each one of you in the District to contribute towards this project. Teamwork and Cooperation are the key ingredients for a successful leader. I seek the cooperation of all the Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers, Editors and members of the Clubs to take our Madras District to a new level of service and fellowship. I thank my better half Ymt.Moushmi and my sons YlMitul and YlManas for all their support and cooperation. See you all soon at our District Events. Editorial Dear Y's Families, God Bless. Ym Mohan Daniel Greetings to each of you! It has been a busy and engaging few months for the Y's community of Madras District. Installation of the clubs has been completed with great vigour and enthusiasm. Projects under the District's theme Each One Teach One have been kickstarted, The theme calls upon the collective power of individual acts to fill the gaps in education of underprivileged children in our country. These gaps, unfortunately, are not limited to infrastructure alone. Ensuring that every child has a school to attend is only half the battle won. Ensuring that they are equipped to overcome the challenges of their circumstances, in a constantly-evolving world, is equally important. After all, education that does not lead to better lives is no education at all. It is here that the Y'sdom, with the will and intention to contribute to a noble cause, becomes a ray of hope. Being part of this movement affords each of us the potential to reach out and build a culture of teaching that is meaningful, lasting and productive. While we try to accomplish this, let us bear in mind that teaching and learning are two sides of the same coin. "I teach, therefore I learn". 8 Best Wishes for a Happy Y's Year!! District Secretary's Report I have immense pleasure in presenting the Madras District Secretary's Report for the period April to July for the Y's Year Madras District held its District Conference on 21st April 2017 and was attended by over 200 delegates at The Park Hotel, Chennai. Madras District Governor Ysm Mohan Daniel and the new Cabinet was introduced and installed by Regional Director of South India Region HRM Ysm Dr Anand Jacob Verghese. The new cabinet members are as follows. District Governor Ysm Mohan Daniel, Dist Secretary Ysm Nebu Thomas, Dist Jt Sec Ysm Dr Abby Abraham, Dist Treasurer Ysm Suresh Venkitachalam, Dist Jt Treasurer Ysm Alfred Michael DGs Group Representative Ysm Joy Koruthu,Dist Bulletin Editor Ymt Shereen John, Dist Asst Bulletin Editor Ymt Preethi Unni and District Service Directors (DSD) was appointed for all District Activities. The District Leaders thanked IPDG Ysm PK Eappen who handed over the formalities to Ysm Mohan Daniel. The vision and mission of District Governor this year will be Each One Teach One. The District is planning many programs and events in the city to ENAGAGE, EDUCATE and EMPOWER the vision of Regional Director. Two projects of the Madras District was launched. 1) Supporting the 5 Days SUMMER CAMP organized by the Service Learning Dept of Loyola College for over 300 slum children from 41 locations. 2) Contribution towards the construction of a building at The Garden of Peace School, a school run on the philosophy of Sarvodaya, near Vellore. These projects were sponsored by HRM Ym Capt.Sunil Simon member of East Club. Mr. John Verghese, Principal of St Stephens College Delhi, was the Chief Guest for the evening. He spoke insightfully about how teaching should have depth and purpose. Mr Leo Peter composed and sang the theme song 'EACH ONE TEACH ONE' Our Patron HRM Ysp Dr Elizabeth Verghese, Chancellor of Hindustan University released a special pin on the theme Each One Teach One. Another highlight of the evening was the auctioning of a 10ft beautiful painting THE EAGLE donated by artist Mr.Reji Joseph, which was auctioned for Rs and was sold to YMC Mylapore, the proceeds of which was donated for Madras District Project EACH ONE TEACH ONE. Another highlight of the evening was a separate conference cum fun events which was organized for all the Ys Lings, activities like Creative Painting Workshop, Magic Show, Party games and tattoo and balloon sculpture artist entertained the children. The District Conference was hosted by YMC East and we wholeheartedly thank the President of the club Ym Viju George and Chairman of MDC2017 Ym Ron Thomas for their leadership and all members for their excellent support. The conference kit was sponsored by YMC of Madras Harringtons. The District conducted PST's Training on June 4th 2017 at IRIS hotel at T.Nagar. Eminent Trainer Mr.Johny K Joseph from Bangalore was the chief trainer along with Regional Secretary Ysm C.Robin and PRD S.S.Tyagarajan provided Professional Training to our PST's of Madras District Clubs. The feedback of the program was overwhelming and response from the clubs was encouraging. Madras District participated actively in the Regional Convention, where our beloved HRM Ym Dr Anand Jacob Verghese was installed on June 10th, 2017.We appreciate the dedication of Regional Cabinet and Chairman PRD Ym Mohan Punnen and his team for organizing RC2017 in a grand manner. The Area convention was held on 25th June at Kochi, HRM Ym Dr Anand Jacob Verghese was awarded the Outstanding Regional Director, Ysm C.Robin was awarded the Best Regional Secretary and Ysm Mohan Daniel was awarded the best Regional Bulletin Editor of the South India Region. The District Governor and his team installed all the 14 Y's Men Clubs 5 Ys Menette Clubs and 4 Ys Lings Club in the month of July We thank all the Clubs for their active participation, inducting 15 new members and for implementing projects worth Rs.14 lakhs in just one month. We request all club PST's and members to whole heartedly take part in Each One Reach One to increase membership, retain members and to bring old members back to the Y's Movement. We request all clubs to pay their subscription to the district and region on time. Kindly contribute liberally towards all International Projects. The last date for payment of 1st semester dues and submission of club rosters is 10 August Y's Youth Stevenson met with an unfortunate accident and was admitted with serious injuries. Our members have already extended their helping hand for his medical expenses at Apollo Hyderabad. Members have contributed over 2 lakhs. And many have done more without any reporting. Please send details of club activities, photographs, projects details as per reporting formats before 10th of every month. We request all of you to attend the upcoming events in the Y's calendar. I am happy to discharge my duties and responsibilities till now and continue to best of my ability.
