2 A Tribute to James R. Stover James R. Stover was Chairman of the Board of Eaton Corporation from 1986 through 1991, the culmination of a career which began in Throughout his 36 years with Eaton, an intense concern for people marked his service to the company and the community. A warm-hearted man blessed with a supportive wife, nine children and an immense sense of humor, Jim is a leader who brings intellect, commitment and common sense to community service. During the 31 years Jim lived in Cleveland, he was active in many non-profit organizations and became a guiding force in Cleveland s United Way, capping his service as chairman of the Cleveland United Way Board from 1989 to Jim helped to spearhead a resurgence of community concern as a member of the boards of the Greater Cleveland Growth Association, which was Cleveland s Chamber of Commerce, Cleveland Tomorrow, an organization overseeing economic development initiatives for the region, and the Greater Cleveland Roundtable, which seeks to improve race relations. He served as a trustee of Catholic Charities, the National Conference for Community and Justice, St. Luke s Hospital, the Council for Aid to Education, John Carroll University and the Playhouse Square Foundation.

Franco De Camargo Assembly Line Operator Valinhos, Brazil TRUCK Paul Hartman Enterprise IT Program Manager Cleveland, Ohio CORPORATE Ila Shelly Hutchins Production Line Finisher Forest City, North Carolina FLUID POWER Brian Phillips Environmental, Health & Safety Manager Roxboro, North Carolina AUTOMOTIVE Selection of Honorees Eaton employees who have established outstanding records of accomplishment as volunteers are eligible to be nominated for the James R. Stover Award for Community Service. Award winners have demonstrated leadership or exemplary service in community activities and have served as volunteers for at least one year in a health, human care, educational, arts, cultural, or civic organization. Employees are encouraged to make nominations that are evaluated by selection committees representing Eaton s business units and corporate staff functions. Honorees chosen from among the nominations receive a commemorative award and a $2,500 contribution from Eaton to a non-profit community service organization of their choice. Factors considered in the selection process include: The impact of the employee s involvement in terms of measurable change and improvement in the organization and in the community. Of particular importance are voluntary activities that result in improved quality, productivity and growth in the services provided by the organization. The extent to which the nominee has provided leadership or in some other way demonstrated an unwavering dedication to providing service or furthering the purposes of the organization. The importance of the activity or institution to the community, Eaton employees and their families. Additional voluntary service in other nonprofit community organization, or in professional, political, religious, fraternal, or labor organizations. Letters of commendation from the organization(s) in which the employee has been involved.

4 Laura Eleam Administrative Assistant Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ELECTRICAL Young Men & Women s African Heritage Association Laura has been an Eaton employee for 21 years. She is an Administrative Assistant for Eaton Electrical in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Laura began foster parenting in 1977, taking children into her home who were victims of abuse and neglect. The children she fostered were teenagers, many that were forgotten and unwanted. But Laura didn t stop there, she volunteered for a residential program for youth. She stayed overnight from Friday to Sunday to expose these children to proper table manners, how to dress appropriately and other life skills they would need to be successful. If a child had no where to go for a holiday season, she would bring them home with her. Laura also collects clothes for abused children and parents for several shelters. She visits elderly church members that are either in nursing homes or unable to leave their own home. She would like to acknowledge her children Lil Eleam Cannon and T Eleam who shared their bedrooms, food and clothes. They accepted any situation that was brought into their household.

5 Joao AP. Franco De Camargo Assembly Line Operator Valinhos, Brazil TRUCK Sao Jose Operario Community Joao has been an Eaton employee for 12 years as an Assembly Line operator in Valinhos, Brazil. He has been volunteering for over 33 years. Joao has volunteered at the Sao Jose Operario Community in many capacities. He coordinates the collection and distribution of donations of food, medicine, clothing and furniture to families. He also coordinates efforts to do minor repair work on homes that are in poor condition. He is a Minister of Dispensations and is developing several activities for people in need. His wife and son also participate in his volunteerism activities. Joao puts together basic food baskets for the people in the community and gathers used toys for the children. He says the most valuable thing in all of this is the look of gratitude from the people that through simple attitudes make us feel the true joy that this day brings to us, the warm happiness of the children as they open their gifts and the happiness of the parents for some food. In his spare time, Joao likes to play football.

6 Paul Hartman Manager, Enterprise IT Program Management Office Cleveland, Ohio CORPORATE Adoptive Families Support Association Paul is Manager, Enterprise IT Program Management Office in Cleveland, Ohio. He has been an Eaton employee for 7 years and volunteering for approximately 11 years. Paul is involved with Family Adoption Consultants. He has made at least nine trips to Korea, bringing 18 children back to waiting families. He is also involved with Adopted Family Support Association, AFSAS Korean Culture Camp, Relay for Life and is a Little League Coach. The Korean Cultural Camp is held yearly in Avon, Ohio. The camp has kids for 5 days, 4 nights and Paul s whole family helps out. His 2 sons attend camp, but his 5 year old daughter helps with KP duty. She will attend camp when she is 7. Paul s wife, Brenda, is also very active with the camp. They have several young adult Korean-American counselors that take charge of the cultural part of the camp. The Korean Presbyterian Church comes in to prepare a Korean feast for all. Paul is also a Martial Artist with a 5th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has been teaching a children s class for 15 years. In his spare time, he is a little league coach and enjoys being a husband and father.

7 Ila Shelly Hutchins Finisher Forest City, North Carolina FLUID POWER New Beginnings Soup Kitchen, Inc Ila Shelly Hutchins has been with Eaton for 7 years and has held many positions on the production line. She is currently a finisher at our facility in Forest City, North Carolina. Shelly s mom donated funds to start a soup kitchen in Shelly works every Wednesday at the kitchen, either cleaning the floor, serving and cooking food, helping with the bookkeeping, or anything that needs done. Her daughter, who is 9, is now following in their steps. She also volunteers at Oak Grove, an elder care facility, her daughter s private school maintaining the flower gardens, paints and helps with the cleaning. She also has time to help with and provide snacks for her daughter s Girl Scout meetings. Shelly also donates her hair to the Locks of Love Foundation. As one of her co-workers said, Shelly is one of the most caring and giving people I know. She learned a lot from her mother and is now teaching her daughter all the good things she knows.

8 Brian Phillips Environmental, Health & Safety Manager Roxboro, North Carolina AUTOMOTIVE The Carying Place, Inc Brian Phillips, an Eaton employee for 7 years, is an Environmental, Health & Safety Manager in Roxboro, North Carolina. Brian has been volunteering for many years at The Carying Place, a family homeless prevention program in Cary, North Carolina. It provides short-term housing and support services while teaching life skills for independent living. He assists in counseling families one night per week for four months on developing basic life & educational skills such as budgeting, goal setting and obtainment. His basis is it is better to teach someone to fish so they can eat for the rest of their lives, rather than just giving them a fish, and have them eat only today. Brian has helped families rebuild from poor histories of bad credit, high debt, evictions and homelessness. Several of the families he has counseled have gone on to rent and own their own homes. He is also a recipient of the Governor s Award for Heroism and Bravery in In 1999, while walking on the beach in Topsail Island, he saw 2 six-year old children who had been carried out to sea by a rip current. He swam 500 yards to the kids and swam back with one child on this back and the other under one arm. In Brian s spare time, he does historical re-enacting, reading and tennis.
