The Support Staff Training Committee, in conjunction with the Louisiana District Attorneys Association, Presents The Jewels of the Offices Spotlighting 40 Years of Support. This is an official 40th anniversary celebration in which you, the support staff, are the stars! Shreveport is the backdrop that will frame the history of how forty years of support has led to the success of Louisiana s judicial system. Come celebrate yourself and your successes, and prepare for future challenges. No scene is complete without its cast, so don t forget to register! It s the event of the year and the greatest in 40! The conference is scheduled for April 9-11, 2014, at the Hilton Shreveport Hotel / Shreveport Convention Center located at 104 Market Street in Shreveport, Louisiana. The conference will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, and adjourn at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 11, The agenda includes a fine line-up of speakers who will not only provide an exceptional learning experience, but also motivate and inspire you in a very realistic way. As always, casual attire is the dress code for this Conference. As well as providing a first-rate itinerary, the Conference will provide a forum for support staff to network with colleagues from other offices throughout the State. The program is designed to reinforce a positive outlook necessary to function in today s fast pace business environment. This year s program is a collaborative effort by the LDAA Support Staff Training Committee members. And last, but certainly not least, the National Crime Victim s Rights Week will be observed April 6 12, To show our support, attendees are asked to donate items to the Providence House which furnishes over 75 two-bedroom apartments each year for homeless families with children. The items you donate will help provide a new beginning for these families as they graduate. It s definitely a worthwhile endeavor. 4 Synopsis Louisiana Code of Governmental Ethics Louisiana state law requires all elected officials, public employees and volunteers to complete one-hour of governmental ethics training annually. This informative session will satisfy the mandate for governmental ethics training for Talk the Talk When district attorneys become involved in high-profile, controversial cases, dealing with the news media can become almost a full-time job. In this presentation, Trooper Davis will discuss some of the basics of dealing with reporters, including some dos and don ts especially for support staff. Sex Offenders and the Internet Mr. Aguillard will discuss the methods and techniques used by sexual predators to victimize child victims using the internet and other electronic technology. LDAA 40 th Annual Red Carpet Extravaganza Join your fellow Jewels of the Offices at the Red Carpet Extravaganza wearing your favorite ruby red attire. The Life of a Courthouse Dog Come meet Duvall who is definitely not camera shy! Duvall is a professionally trained, compassion-providing advocate to children. He also assists victims, witnesses, and others during forensic interviews, counseling, and additional services through the Terrebonne Children s Advocacy Center. Captain Tommy Beeson will give an overview on courthouse dogs and how they assist the public with the criminal justice system. Fostering Good Relationships Between Offices Join a former prosecutor and a current criminal justice teacher as he addresses the importance in keeping good rapport within all members of the justice system. Sexting and Human Trafficking Criminal activity often involves new and changing types of crime. This session will explore sexting and how it is related to the world of human trafficking. This fee includes all training sessions, handouts, coffee breaks, and scheduled activities. You have three ways to register: 1) register online at 2) fax the registration form to LDAA Headquarters at (225) ; or 3) return the enclosed registration form to LDAA Headquarters at 1645 Nicholson Drive, Baton Rouge, Louisiana Payment may be made at a later date prior to the Conference.
