2 Program Details & Description: Program willcommence at 2:30 pm andendat 7:30 pm Mon Thur HYPE after school program will be like no other after hours programming for middle school students. The HYPE member(s) will have access to highly qualified teachers and tutors for up to 1 ½ hours on a daily basis. The member will have the option to participate in small group and/or individualized tutoring in high stakes academic subjects such as, Math, English, Science, and Social Studies. HYPE after school program will provide healthy and nutritious fuel with the help of a nutritional specialist that will also serve as mentor for the students as needed HYPE after school program will partner with community members and businesses to provide regular physical activity that is unique and wellrounded to the youth in the program. Some examples would be yoga, sports specific skills training, CrossFit training, and karate to name a few. HYPE after school program will also partner with community members, classroom teachers, administration, and parents and college students to provide small group and individualized mentoring each day. The students that will likely benefit the most from this piece of the after school program will be those who stay for the entire 3 hours. It could be quite possible that several of the students who attend and stay for all 3 hours, may come from a single parent home, or a home with low financial security, or some other obstacle that might create an at-risk type of situation for the student. HYPE after school program will also encompass a specialized curriculum to provide high stakes test taking strategies. This will be extremely important piece of the program and will offer something that no other program offers along with the personal mentoring. The push for higher test scores can create stress for young learners, and when they are taught strategies to combat not only the stress from taking a test, but also strategies for actually taking the test, then better performance is realized. HYPE after school program will serve as a wide cast net that will serve all students and help to identify the most at risk students that could benefit from the full service of the HYPE mentoring program. This relationship will be more intense and completely individualized as needed for that student.

4 OUR STORY Josh Jones, Founder and President Joshua Jones, from Portland, TN, graduated from Portland High School in 2001 with an Honors Diploma, and state recognition for helping his team win the first State football title in the history of the program. After graduating from high school, he attended Cumberland University on a football scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor s Degree in Business Administration. He later went on to attend Bethel University, and in 2014, earned his Master s Degree in Business Administration and Management with a 4.0 grade point average. Josh grew up in a single parent household, where his mother did the very best she could in order to provide for him, as well as his younger brother and sister. Very early-on in his life, Josh knew that he wanted more for his future. His parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other close family members, all have work(ed) extensive hours and labor in different jobs in the manufacturing industry. Seeing their hard work and long hours, he realized this type of work was not for him. He prayed that he would not be forced to live the same life he experienced. Growing up, he was one of the popular kids that, on the surface, one would assume he had a stable home life because he always carried himself well and kept a smile on his face. However, his home life was different from what people would have assumed. He did not let his personal trials derail him from the goals he had set for himself. He knew what was required of him in order to succeed in life. He is motivated by the hard work and misfortunes of his mother; her unfortunate trials

5 have encouraged him to make a difference in his life, his family s life and anyone else s life with which he may come in contact. Josh has used the trials and setbacks of his upbringing to motivate him and drive him to reach his dreams. Josh has always had a desire to make a difference in his community, and he believes that through H.Y.P.E., he will help provide hope for young people who are facing similar trials that he faced. Jason Rogan, Co-Founder Jason Rogan was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in January of At the tender age of one, he and his mother moved back to her home town of Portland, TN. Growing up Jason was very active and enjoyed playing various sports, but finally fell in love with basketball and Track and Field. During his years at Portland High School, Jason scored 2000 points in basketball and won the State Title for the High Jump in Track and Field. After high school, Jason attended Northwest Mississippi Community College, where he led his Junior College team to a top 8 finish nationally. After completing Community College, He played two years for Jeff Lebo at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he was a two-year starter and went on to earn All-Southern Conference Tournament accolades. He also played A Division Professional Basketball at Den Helder (Holland).

6 When presented with the idea of H.Y.P.E, Jason felt it was the perfect opportunity to give back to his community because today s youth struggle with the pressure of society and its views of normalcy. Mr. Rogan believes that the best way to reach children is to be transparent and allow them to see that, you yourself, have experienced the same situations they are currently experiencing. Another goal Mr. Rogan wants to accomplish with H.Y.P.E, is to allow the youth to see that even in adulthood, you can overcome any obstacle placed in your way. Jason is a son, brother and a proud father of a one year old girl named Zara. He is so elated to see the positive effect H.Y.P.E will have on this generation and those to come. Kristi Huffine, Afterschool Program Director - Counselor Kristi attended Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN where she earned her Bachelor s Degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism. She went on to work at News Channel 5 as a writer/producer for several of their news productions. During this same time, she married her high school sweetheart, Johnny, and they have been married for 23 years. They have 3 children, Kayla (19), Max (12), and Zoe (7). In 1999, Kristi completed her Master s Degree in School Psychology and began working in Sumner County Schools where she and Johnny chose to live. Kristi has worked in the school system for 6 years and loves working with students of all ages.

7 As a School Psychologist, she was able to touch the lives of many children who were sometimes at their most vulnerable, but she continued to struggle with what her larger purpose was, and wanted to be more interactive with the students. She decided to take some time off when her second child was born, but attempted to work part-time at different places trying to find her place. She worked at Vanderbilt Medical Center for the Center for Child Development assessing and helping to diagnose children with Autism. She also worked at Hendersonville First United Methodist as a Children s Ministry Coordinator and then as a Director of the Preschool for a brief time. Still, she continued to search for a deeper purpose in helping children. Kristi currently works as a Licensed School Counselor at Ellis Middle School in Hendersonville, TN. She feels blessed to have the privilege to serve middle school students because it allows her to encourage them daily, remind them of their selfworth, and the importance of respecting themselves and others. Kristi found HYPE through Athletic Revolution, and believes that God continues to put things in front of her that will continue to help children, and ultimately help her be a better counselor, mother, wife, and community member. She hopes to help HYPE grow, and believes that by doing that, HYPE has unlimited potential in helping children in all of life s many different circumstances.
