1 APPROVED WARRICK COUNTY SCHOOL CORPORATION SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES MAY 5, 2014 The Warrick County Board of School Trustees met in regular session on May 5, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Administration Center with all members present. President Gary Hachmeister called the meeting to order. A moment of silence was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Reports Mr. Schneider welcomed Lisa Lance and her Warrick County String Orchestra to the meeting tonight. The string orchestra played several selections including solo performances by Stephanie Panayides and Cameron Vaughn, and a performance by Myranda Moye, Lyndsay Moye, Kylee Moye, and Calvin Josenhans. After the performance, Mrs. Lance introduced the students as Isaac Tieman, Leland Steinhagen, Lauren Steinhagen, Stephanie Panayides, Patrick Panayides, Suzanna Josenhans, Calvin Josenhans, Anisha Singh, Gwennith Kim, Ariana Gonzalez, Kylee Moye, Katie Taylor, Cameron Vaughn, Grace Kim, and Lyndsay Moye. She also introduced Myranda Moye, a senior at Castle High School, who started playing violin when she was three years old. Mrs. Lance said she had Myranda in music class at John H. Castle Elementary School. One day Myranda played her violin for Mrs. Lance, and it inspired Mrs. Lance to start the string orchestra. Myranda will be pursuing a degree in engineering at Purdue University next year. Mrs. Lance said all of these students take private instruction from teachers in Evansville or at the University of Evansville. When they get to middle school they have to either take band or choir. If they choose band, it means taking on another instrument. It is her vision that someday there will be a string orchestra program in Warrick County to give all children a chance to play. She is hopeful the Board will someday have the same vision to provide this program to the students in Warrick County. Mr. Schneider thanked Mrs. Lance and the students for their outstanding performance tonight. Consideration of Routine Items A motion was made by Candace Nance and seconded by Dorothy Kroeger to approve the following Routine Items, as listed: A. Approve the minutes of the School Board meeting held on April 21, B. Approve Claims and sign the docket. C. Approve the Requests for Professional Leave. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Thomas Welch and seconded by Ben Stilwell to award the base bid along with Alternates 1, 2, 5, and 8 for the Sharon Elementary School construction and renovation project to Arc Construction, Inc. for $593,770, as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder, as presented. Motion carried. B. A motion was made by Candace Nance and seconded by Dorothy Kroeger to approve the Student Agenda Handbooks, as presented. Motion carried. C. A motion was made by Brenda Metzger and seconded by Dorothy Kroeger to accept the donation of seven ipads and covers valued at $3,193 from the Tennyson Parent and Teachers organization to Tennyson Elementary School, as presented. Motion carried. D. A motion was made by Candace Nance and seconded by Jim Eifer to accept the cash donation of $450 from General Mills to Castle High School, as presented. Motion carried. E. A motion was made by Brenda Metzger and seconded by Ben Stilwell to accept the cash donation of $400 from a former student to Oakdale Elementary School. The donation is to be used to meet student needs. Motion carried. F. A motion was made by Thomas Welch and seconded by Dorothy Kroeger to accept the cash donation of $5,015 from the Newburgh PAT to Newburgh Elementary School, for the purchase of five document cameras and five double-sided mobile tack boards, as presented. Motion carried. Consideration of Personnel Recommendations Mr. Rick Reid, Director of Human Resources, presented recommendations for employment of personnel, reports, and requests for leave of absence. Upon his recommendation: A. A motion was made Candace Nance and seconded by Ben Stilwell to employ Kallie Powers as a chemistry/physics teacher at Boonville High School starting the school year. Motion carried. B. A motion was made by Brenda Metzger and seconded by Ben Stilwell to employ Brie Ammerman as a special education teacher at Castle North Middle School starting the school year, contingent upon proper licensing. Motion carried. C. A motion was made by Dorothy Kroeger and seconded by Thomas Welch to employ bus drivers for the following routes: 1. Bus Driver for Route #52 Diana McShanog 2. Bus Driver for Route #85 Nancy Lauderdale 3. Bus Driver for Route #212 Danielle Williams

Bus Driver for Route #223 Paula Hunton Motion carried. D. Mr. Reid reported on the following transfers: 1. Libby Baker, 8-hour custodian at Tecumseh Jr./Sr. High School to Lynnville Elementary School. 2. Voluntary transfer of Jennifer Westrich, third grade teacher at Newburgh Elementary School to second grade teacher at Elberfeld Elementary School. 3. Voluntary transfer of Alicia Tromley from Title I teacher at Sharon Elementary School to Title I teacher at Oakdale Elementary School. E. Mr. Reid reported on the non-renewal of the temporary assignment of support staff employee, Tamber Duncan, 6.5-hour program assistant/health aide at Warrick Education Center, who is employed in a temporary capacity from Tuesday, April 22, 2014, through the end of the school year. F. A motion was made by Candace Nance and seconded by Dorothy Kroeger to approve the return to work date of Thursday, August 7, 2014, for Judy Willett, first grade teacher at Lynnville Elementary School. She was previously granted a leave of absence using accumulated sick days and Family Medical Leave with an undetermined date of return, but that date has now been determined. Motion carried. G. A motion was made by Candace Nance and seconded by Ben Stilwell to approve the request of Chelsea Phillips, language arts teacher at Boonville High School, for a leave of absence for the school year, with a return date of Monday, August 10, Motion carried. H. A motion was made by Candace Nance and seconded by Brenda Metzger to approve the request of Kelly Schmitt, 3.25-hour cafeteria employee at Loge Elementary School, for a leave of absence starting Monday, May 5, 2014, with a return date of Tuesday, August 5, Motion carried. I. A motion was made by Brenda Metzger and seconded by Ben Stilwell to approve the request of Kristina Landrum, 6-hour clerical aide at Oakdale Elementary School, for a medical leave of absence beginning Monday, April 28, 2014, with an undetermined return date. Motion carried. J. A motion was made by Thomas Welch and seconded by Jim Eifler to approve the request of Julie Luker, 6.5-hour cafeteria employee at Chandler Elementary School, for a medical leave of absence beginning Monday, May 5, 2014, with a return date of Monday, August 11, 2014, using accumulated sick days. Motion carried. Mr. Reid reported on the following resignations: A. Medley Ford, kindergarten teacher at Sharon Elementary School, effective at the end of the school year.

J. Kelly Rae Gansman, program assistant at the Warrick Education Center, effective Thursday, May 29, Next, Mr. Reid reported on the following retirements: A. Phyllis Alford, health aide at Castle North/Castle South Middle Schools, effective Thursday July 31, B. Ilene Edwards, personnel secretary, effective Monday, June 16, C. Jo Ella Miller, secretary at Tecumseh Jr./Sr. High School, effective Tuesday, July 1, Other Board Business Mr. Schneider asked President Gary Hachmeister to schedule an Executive Session for Monday, May 19, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. Several upcoming meetings were discussed: Personnel, Custodial & Food and Nutrition Committee Monday, May 19, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. at the Administration Building. Construction, Technology & Maintenance Committee - Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 7:30 a.m. at the Administration Building.
