1 NH District News NATIONAL, REGIONAL & N.H. DISTRICT STAFF GWRRA President, Anita Alkire International Director of GWRRA, Ray & Sandy Garris Region B Directors, Tom & Renee Wasluck regionbdirectors.tom.renee@gmail.com District Directors Notes: As the month of May comes to an end and June is just beginning, Bonnie and I would like to say, we are happy and proud to be the Directors of the New Hampshire District and would like to send a warm welcome to all the new officers whether you are on the District team or Chapter Team and to thank the seasoned officers for staying on. Since beginning our positions as NH District Directors, Bonnie and I have made it a goal to attend as many of the Chapter gatherings and Chapter events as possible. And what we have seen is that while our District is made up of 4 unique NH Chapters, there is so much interaction between the chapters. You all work as if you are one big happy family. There hasn t been a single event or gathering that we have been to that there has not been visitors from another NH Chapter attending as well. HOW GREAT! The weather hasn t really started to cooperate yet with all the rain we have been getting and it is already June and we aren t out of the sixty degree temps yet. Despite this all the NH Chapters have started riding and the rides are getting plenty of participation. This riding season all the NH Chapters are experimenting with a new ride schedule. Each Chapter has chosen a week during the month to plan their monthly ride. N.H. District Directors, David & Bonnie Bolster gwrranh.district@gmail.com N.H. Asst. District Director, Ron & Susie Black darkcat1@myfairpoint.net N.H. 2 And thanks to our District Webmaster and Newsletter Editor, Bill Bascom, a TEAM-UP District calendar was set up so everyone could follow the events going on within the NH District. Thank you to all the Chapter Directors for continuing to add and update the District calendar with the things that are going on everywhere. District Educator, Dick Bernier, has also been busy adding training seminars to the District calendar. He has set a schedule of classes during the monthly chapter gatherings. Some of the seminars included are Riding in the Heat, Riding with New and Inexperienced Riders, and Crash Scene Response. Check out the TEAM-UP calendar for the NH Chapter Gathering hosting these seminars and more. Congratulations to Dick Bernier for taking the ITCP course in Sturbridge, MA on April 29 th, 2017 and is now a Certified University Instructor and now can present the new University modules. Chapter growth is important so it has been great to see new people visiting the NH Chapters. Also we have seen some great Member Enhancement activities within the District from handing out a business card and inviting somebody to a Chapter gathering to attending an open house or holding a meet & greet. Found this recipe for Chapter Success in a past GWRRA Insight. (4/2011) and thought it worth sharing. The Chapter Core Team will need a very large dose of Positive Attitude mixed with cup of Respect for the values of the organization and the members. Throw in a lot of Enthusiasm with a couple of gallons of Motivation. Take all of these ingredients and mix with a very interesting and challenging Ride/Event Schedule. Throw in a little Training with a few gallons of Ice Cream and you will end up with a Chapter that truly believes in Friends for Fun, Safety, & Knowledge. (written by Paul & Cheryl Brosher, Former Directors, Leadership Training) As District Directors, we have been very busy working with the NE District Rally Team to get Back to Basics to put on a rally full of riding, friends, and fun. One of the new events this year s rally is the piñata contest between all the New England Chapters. Each of the New Hampshire Chapters have taken up the challenge to build their own creations and we are excited to see them unveiled at the 2017 rally. Hope to see you all there. It is NOT TOO LATE to make send in your rally registration. (See the registration form included in the newsletter.) Rooms are still available so call and make your reservation and don t miss out on all the FUN.

3 Assistant District Director's Notes; Hello to all GWRRA members, We were first introduced at a GWRRA NH-E Get-To-Gather September 2011 in Rindge, NH. This was just one month after the purchase of our 2007 GoldWing Trike. We were welcomed with opened arms by all the members. It was like everyone was our own Family & we were theirs. When the Get-To-Gather was over we followed Bob & Hazel Young the NH-E Chapter Directors on a ride to Temple,NH for a Harvest Craft Fair on the Common. We were hooked from that day on. We spent all of 2012 & 2013 riding as much as possible. We went to Nashville,TN & Deals Gap Tail of the Dragon in We went to Nova Scotia & then we did the The Tail of the Dragon again on our way to Wing Ding in Greenville,SC in In the late part of summer 2013 we agreed to become NH-E Assistant Chapter Directors for Ted & Karen Zitnay. They wanted to step down knowing they would be retiring & moving to N. Carolina soon. But by December we were agreeing to take over as NH-E Chapter Directors for Bob & Hazel Young who were stepping down. So we were very lucky to have Michelle Shepard & Armand Guilmett step up as NH-E Assistant Chapter Directors. We were contacted via by Dee & Brian Thomas VT-A Chapter Directors. We met up with them so they could follow us to the 2014 Rhode Island Breakfast KickOff. This was an Amazing Day! Dee, also the NH/VT MEC had so much enthusiasm it was infectious & inspiring. We met so many people that day who are now part of our lives & we Treasure all of them. We left Rhode Island that day following Dee & Brain Thomas who were following Chapter NH-A to a Hot Dog Specialty stand. Little did we know this was the beginning of an incredible journey filled with Lots of Friends,Fun & Awesome Rides & Events. In 2014 we traveled cross country to Yellowstone National Park,WY & Glacier National Park MT & Mount Rushmore in Custer,SD. We visited as many Chapter Get-To-Gathers as possible & joined Rides with other Chapters & Fund Raiser Rides as we could. In November of 2014 we were nominated NH-E Chapter Couple of the Year for 2015 this was a Great Honor. In 2015 we entered the selection process for NH District Couple of the Year. We had a lot of fun and made more new friends. When Dave & Bonnie Bolster asked us to be their NH Assistant District Directors we were Honored & very surprised! We told them we would do what ever they needed. We will be there for them learning as much as we can about the District. We will support them & the District Team. Dave & Bonnie have inspired us with their constant Fun Games they come up with at their Chapter Get-ToGathers. We are sure those incredible ideas will be helpful for future New England District Rallies. We hope to have lots of fun with our new roles with the District. We will do our best to be enthusiastic & to inspire others from what we have learned. Thank You Dave & Bonnie for this wonderful opportunity. We look forward to an Amazing 2017 & Beyond!

4 District Rider Ed Notes; Well, hello once again District, I m sure by now most of you have been riding for a while now but just to be sure I am putting together a list of things to remember when you are out there on those motorcycles. Number 1 thing to remember is that you CAN give up the right of way. It is sometimes better to give it up that be dead right. Number 2. Always wear All the gear All the time. Just protect those parts of your body you want to use later in life. Number 3. Be sure both you and your motorcycle are in top condition. Do the inspection of your bike before you leave, particularly your tires. Remember you only have two, or three of them, be sure they are road worthy. Number 4. Make sure you never mix alcohol or drugs with gasoline on a motorcycle. You never know when you will need all of those senses to avoid someone or thing in front of you. Number 5. Always watch for distracted drivers. They are the biggest threat to others on the road. Number 6. Get as much training as you can because you never know enough. Riding a motorcycle come with inherent risk. Training and being seen reduce that risk. Let s make it as low as possible. When all is said and done just ride safe out there and we shall see you all again. Richard (Dick) Bernier GWRRA, District Educator
