1 Cooperative Extension Service Daviess County 4800A New Hartford Road Owensboro KY Fax: extension.ca.uky.edu Districts 6 and 7 are teaming up to put on an Area Teen Retreat to be held at West Kentucky 4-H Camp April This retreat is focused on leadership and getting to know other teens from the area. If you are interested, please contact Lindsey at the Extension Office. The cost is $90 for participants and registration is due March 23. The Daviess County Cooperative Extension Office is partnering with Daviess County High School to put on a Truth & Consequences event for DCHS Freshmen. We are in need of volunteers to help the day of this event. If you are available or willing to assist with this event, please call Mary, Stacey, or Lindsey at the Office! All parents want their child/children to be healthy. Following the 3 principals of Drink right, Move more, and Snack smarter can lead all parents down the right path for not only their kids health, but even for their own personal wellbeing. With those 3 things in mind, it can become easier to make the right choices for yourself and others. February is 4-H Health Month and, as a Kentucky 4-H Health Ambassador, I cannot stress enough how incredibly important it is to encourage this in the people around you! There are many, many, many creative, affordable, and easy ways to come up with fun ideas to incorporate a better, healthier lifestyle for yourself and your family. It can be as simple as making a few easy adjustments, like 15 extra minutes a day of active movements that increases your heart rate, or choosing a fruit instead of a candy bar as a snack, or drinking water instead of a soft drink. - Lily Young During school Christmas break both campuses of Girls Inc. got the opportunity to create crafts and participate in nutrition programming.

2 4-H CLOVERBUD CAMP Cloverbud Camp is for youth ages 5-8 and will be June 1-3 at West Kentucky 4-H Camp. Cost is $120 for participants and chaperones. All Cloverbuds must have a chaperone. Registration and fees are due May 1. Please contact the Extension Office for more details and forms. At the January Cloverbuds meeting youth worked on upcycled projects using old CDs. They will be celebrating 4-H Health Month and learning about the Archery Club at the February meeting. We look forward to seeing you at 5:30 pm on Thursday, February 1. Our first 4-H/FFA Feeder Calf Project meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13 at 6:00 pm at the Daviess County Extension Office. This meeting is required for all new participants. Returning participants wishing to apply for a Farm Service Agency loan may attend to start the paperwork process with FSA representatives. As a reminder all registration forms and deposits (if required) are due Friday, February 16. DAVIESS COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS SCHOLARSHIP The Daviess County Extension Homemakers Scholarship will be awarded to ONE applicant in the amount of $500. Completed application and a current transcript must be submitted no later than March 15, The chosen recipient will be announced in the May 2018 Homemaker Newsletter. The recipient will also be invited to attend the Homemaker s Annual Meeting in September 2018 to be recognized. Visit our website for more information and to apply: -extension-homemakers JOANN Fabrics is making it possible to support 4-H when you visit one of their stores between February 1 and February 28, You may purchase a $1 or $4 Valentine s edition of the paper clover. With the $4 paper clover, customers will also receive a coupon for $4 off their next purchase. Additionally, Daviess County 4-H will be participating in an in-store service project on Saturday, February 3 from 11am 2pm to make Valentine s Day cards which will be shared with Oasis, Mary Kendall Home and local Senior Citizens Centers. If you would like to help man the table please contact the Extension Office to sign up. Those under the age of 14 will need a parent or guardian present. Be sure to wear your 4-H swag! Another way to support 4-H and save money at the same time is to sign up for the JOANN Fabrics free 4-H Reward Card. The new 4-H Reward Card gives JOANN shoppers 15% off their total in-store and online purchases every day, and gives a minimum of 2.5% of every eligible transaction as a donation to 4-H. 4-H Camp will be June 12-15, 2018 at West Kentucky 4-H Camp. Camp is open to youth 9-15 years of age. The cost is $215 or $205 if paid in full by May 1. The fee includes meals, lodging, transportation, and a t-shirt. Spaces fill quickly, please don t wait until the last minute! As always, we are looking for adults and teens to serve as volunteers at Camp. If you are interested please contact us! All volunteers must go through a screening process which includes a background check and an interview. Parents: please be aware we can only accept the number of campers we have the adults to supervise. Please consider serving as a camp volunteer to ensure we can take as many youth as want to attend. If you can t attend, maybe you know someone who can! There are lots of exciting things happening at 4-H Camp. Keep informed by liking Daviess County 4-H and West Kentucky 4-H Camp on Facebook! The 4-H Achievement Form is used to select jacket, vest and scholarship winners on the local level. On the District and State level, it is used to award event and college scholarships. The variety, quantity, and quality of the points matter! Here is an idea that can count for points in the Citizenship section under 4-H Innovative ideas: Write a paragraph about a historical landmark you have visited and send it to us to be published in the 4-H newsletter. The newsletter is published each month during the school year and the deadline is the 20th of each month prior. We love pictures too!
