Gail estimates that we will have a balance of approximately $1, at the end of June in the general operating funds. We also received a $50 donation and a thank you card from the Beavers group. Kathy Richmond-Cox moved to accept the financial report as presented Gail Cuthbert-Brandt seconded. Carried 4. Congregational Development Kathy Richmond-Cox reported that the next Congregational Development Committee meeting will be held in early July to make plans for Autumn activities. a. Wings & Roots Workshop Kathy Richmond-Cox reported that she, Rev. Margaret, and Margaret Cassel attended the Wings & Roots Workshop on May 31 st, and found it to be a very positive experience. Please see Appendix A for Kathy s report. There is another workshop planned for Saturday, September 27 th called The Spirit of Invitation. If you are interested in attending please speak to Rev. Margaret. 5. Worship Committee a. Cathedral Choir Evensong Visit The London Cathedral Choir was booked for the October dates discussed at the last meeting. The second Sunday in June 2015 (June 14 th, 2015) is available, however this falls on the same date as the Annual Anniversary Service at St. James. The evensong service would begin at 5pm, we would be required to supply the service bulletin, supper for the choir members, and payment for travel costs ($0.25/km for 6-7 vehicles). Discussion was held and it was suggested that a tent could be rented, tickets could be sold for dinner (with free tickets provided to the choir members), a second port-a-potty brought in. Gail moved that June 14 th, 2015 be booked with the London Cathedral Choir with details to be determined at a later date. Calvin Williston seconded. Carried. b. Outdoor Service Carol Massel proposed that an outdoor service be held in place of the regular Sunday 10:30am service on July 13 th. Wayne Roth has offered his property along the river for the service, as well as the opportunity to take people out on his pontoon boat following the service. Everyone would be asked to bring a dish for a potluck brunch to be enjoyed on the lawn. In case of rain the service would be held indoors at St. George s as usual. All agreed this was a wonderful idea. Location: 325 Bleams Court. Gail Kostash suggested offering car pooling for those who may not know where Wayne lives (and to cut down on parking needs).
3 6. Social/Fundraising Committee a. Plans In Margaret Bennett s absence Gail Kostash reported that the plans in the works include a Men s Bake Off (November David and Marion Korell involved in the planning), A Murder Mystery Night (late October), and a Music Entertainment Night. b. Community Pancake Dinner Gail Cuthbert Brandt received an invitation from Zion United to take part in a planning meeting for a community pancake dinner to be held Shrove Tuesday The meeting is to take place Monday, June 16 th, 7;30pm at Zion United. Bob Kostash will attend. Gail Kostash will speak to Margaret Bennett to see if she would like to attend with Bob. c. Wilmot Family Resource Centre AGM Also on the evening of June 16 th is the WFRC AGM. Kathy Richmond-Cox will attend. 7. Communication Committee Margaret Cassel reported that the committee will be meeting at some point in late June. 8. Environment Committee Kathy Richmond-Cox advised that she received s from the head of the diocesan Enviro-Action Committee and offered to forward them on as they are quite interesting. All agreed with thanks. Calvin Williston reported that the composter is now in place and ready for use. Please use for old coffee grounds, food scraps, dead flowers 9. St. James a. Anniversary Service June 8 th, 3pm Carol Massel reported that the Anniversary Service was a success, with 47 attending. Paul Ditner noted that the sing-song before the service was a lot of fun! 10. Outreach a. Deanery Outreach 750 tickets were printed for the Spring Serenade concert and only 427 were sold, however the event made a profit of $ to be presented to Monica Place a great success! The Monica Place Prom is being held June 25 th 6-9pm. A sign up sheet for food prep/donation is on the bulletin board. Financial donations are also welcome, and if you are interested in helping out at the event itself, please contact Kathy. Kathy Richmond-Cox noted that the future of the Deanery Outreach Committee is in question as there has not been a lot of participation from the Cambridge churches. This is because they have a separate group that meets many of the same needs and the Deanery group is viewed as duplication. Discussions are taking place to set up a similar group among the Kitchener-Waterloo-And Area churches for future plans. The group will continue for the purpose of planning the Monica Place Prom, but will not take on new projects. b. Jamaican Guest Workers Gail Kostash reported that she has the grocery cards, we are awaiting word of the arrival of the workers. 11. ReNew Gail Cuthbert Brandt asked that a Special Vestry Meeting be planned to vote on starting the kitchen renovation. Before the meeting, she would like to distribute a letter to members of the congregation seeking Leadership level gifts of $ to get us well on our way towards the $35,000 needed for this first phase of the ReNew project. Gail passed around a draft letter, all approved. The Special Vestry Meeting will be held following the 10:30am service on Sunday, July 6 th. Marion Korell suggested that a sample cupboard (which were purchased at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and are currently stored in the shed) be brought in for the meeting so people can see something tangible for the project before the vote. Margaret Cassel volunteered to prepare the coffee/tea for the meeting.
4 12. Building & Property a. Sound system Pending b. Spring Maintenance Pending 13. New Business a. Advertising at Stonecroft Gail Cuthbert Brandt asked that a poster be prepared to advertise our services at Stonecroft the poster can be sent to Charles Jenkins for review and approval. Sharon to complete. b. Synod Report Marion Korell reported that David will have his report from Synod on Sunday. c. Flower Beds Carol Massel asked if more flowers are going to be planted out front. Gail Kostash advised that there is $ budgeted for this and zero has been spent to date. Carol will look after this. d. Cleaning Carol Massel reported that our cleaner, Shannon, did not clean last week as she was ill, she should be back this week. e. Hole in Glazed Window Paul Ditner advised that there is a possible hole in one of the stained glass windows/glazed windows. He will investigate. f. An informal Evening with Bishop Terry Rev. Margaret reminded all that there is a service & informal evening on Thursday evening hope to see some of you there. Gail Kostash offered a ride if anyone is interested in going with her & Bob. g. Daycare Little Dragon Daycare at St. George s Forest Hill has openings through the summer, contact them direct if you have need of care. h. Deanery Youth Worker Rev. Margaret advised that while St. George s made a commitment to financially support a Deanery Youth Worker, commitments were not received from all of the churches, or for the total dollars needed (they were looking for 10K from 13 churches this year and received commitment from 9 parishes for $ ). This plan is now up in the air. Discussion was held regarding the support (or lack thereof) for youth in the church. Rev. Margaret noted that there is a Diocese in Brazil which covers a larger geographic region than all of Ontario, has only 7 clergy for all of that space, and one of those clergy is dedicated to Youth Ministry. i. Single Point Parish Gail Kostash asked if we had received any response from our letter requesting we be moved to the official status of Single Point Parish. Rev. Margaret advised that Diocesan Council meets on Friday, June 13 th so no response is expected yet. 14. Adjournment Moved: Gail Kostash Carried. 6 Workshop was held May 31, 2014 Part 1 Recovering Our Passion Appendix A Roots & Wings Workshop Notes from Kathy Richmond-Cox Discussed the question: What is the gospel? Answered the question using God as the first word in the sentence, and then using I as the first word in the sentence. We then shared out answers. It is important for everyone to take time to do this so that we can share our faith. We are all the church. Part 2 Learning to Fly 1. Don t beat yourself up 2. Ask God what you can do 3. Have a budget line for outreach 4. Be welcoming 5. Serve needs outside of the church 6. Teach the basics 7. Preach a sermon series 8. Start a new service 9. Be generous with your space 10. Stop doing things that do not serve the Gospel 11. Free up leaders for ministry with non-church folk 12. Find supportive networks We were all challenged to commit to doing something from this list Part 3 - Daring to Leave the Nest Where do we begin: degree listening 2. Prayer for the impact of the Gospel in our neighborhood 3. Budget for local outreach 4. Find out what gifts and interests our congregation has outside the church 5. Talk to people in the neighborhood 6. Do a survey of the neighborhood 7. Talk to other local churches We will be looking into this at the next Congregational Development Committee Meeting The ReFresh ministry is a form of reaching out to the community. The Deanery Outreach Committee is an avenue for working with other churches The Cambridge Churches of our Deanery do more things together ie: float for the Santa Claus Parade
