2 Principal s Report Glenn McGarigle Last Saturday we held our annual Spring Market. This year it was held at the Hillside Campus and the day went off very well with lots of families and visitors spending time browsing the stalls and taking the opportunity to buy a ticket or two for one of the rides. The atmosphere was very enjoyable with lots of different activities and it provided an opportunity for the choir to perform. The choir s performance was warmly received and appreciated by the parents and visitors. The art auction was another popular attraction that always showcases some creative works from the students and their teachers. An event like the market doesn t happen without hard work and determination from a lot of people. I would like to start by thanking Erin Gasparini, a parent from the Hillside Campus, who took over the organising role from Nikki Isergin, who went on leave. Erin did a wonderful job ensuring that the transition from Nikki went smoothly and on the day the planning all fell into place. I was very pleased to hear a lot of positive comments about the market and what a great event it was. I was also pleased to hear many positive comments about how the Hillside Campus is looking and the gardens with their many special features attracted some very kind comments. The gardens have undergone a great transformation and a lot of the credit goes to the groups of students that Christine Harris has been guiding and mentoring. Thanks for the transformation must also go to Ragni Chandra a parent volunteer from Hillside who has spent a great deal of time and energy in tending the gardens. I would like to also acknowledge and thank the many staff who gave up some time on the day to help with the market, either setting up at 7.30am right through to the staff who donated items for the stalls or made cakes. Other staff were busy counting money in the office and checking that the day was running smoothly. Thanks. It was a great community event. We haven t yet got a final figure of the total raised on the day; however, when we do we will be letting everyone know about the result. Grade 5 Camp Day One: On 21 October we made our way to camp. The traffic was moving very slowly because of the wet weather. It took about 1 hour and 30 minutes, I was really tired on the bus. When we got there it was spitting. We had to find our luggage and go in our cabins and unpack. When we had finished unpacking we ate our lunch in the hall. Then we had two activities, my first two were flying fox then giant swing. I was really hungry. For dinner we had fish and chips with coleslaw. Then we went back to our cabins to have some free time and then go to sleep. Day Two: We all woke up and the first thing I did was have a shower. Then we got called for breakfast, We had cereal and spaghetti on toast. Then we were out for out first activity. My first activity was rock climbing I went to half way on the hard wall. Then we had morning tea, I had an apple. Then we went out to archery. We had two teams. I was first up in my team and there was a balloon in the middle and what ever team popped it first wins. I popped first out of everyone and I made my whole team win. For lunch we had burgers and for dinner we had chicken schnitzel. Its Day three: I wake up feeling exited but sad. I didn t want to leave. I got dressed and went with I Eisha to do some last minute exploring around the camp. Then we had to go to breakfast. We had Cereal and baked beans on toast. Then I had to go and do volleyball with my group it was so fun but I got a lot of sand in my shoes! Then we had we had salad burgers for lunch. While I was eating I was thinking about what we have done on this wonderful camp and that I will remember it, I wish I could go back!!

3 Woorabinda Last term, I had the privilege of accompanying sixteen of our Grade 4 and Grade 5 students to Camp Woorabinda. Woorabinda is a wonderful experience for both the students and staff who attend. It is a week-long camp that has a strong emphasis on the 3 C S (consideration, cooperation and courtesy) and it encourages students to challenge themselves and push past their fears, make new friends, discover new passions and develop new skills. The challenges begin from the moment they step off the bus and set off on a hike down into the campsite. Two of the students who experienced this wonderful opportunity would like to share their thoughts Hi, I m Olivia and I went to the Woorabinda Camp. It was the best camp ever! There was a Zip Line, an 8 metre high ropes course and lots of other activities too. The food was great and the staff were fun. We had assemblies every morning and we sang their song called, Have you Binda? I would recommend this camp to everyone and I would also love to go back. By Olivia 5MX Hi my name is Leon and I will be talking about my most challenging and favourite moments at the Woorabinda Camp. Camp Woorabinda was really fun and challenging for me and the other students that had come along on the trip. I was challenged by many things, but I d have to say that I was mostly challenged by living without my family for five days. It was a pretty hard thing for me to achieve and I felt happy when I got through it. My favourite moment on the trip was making lots of new friends from different schools. Most of the people at the camp were really nice and funny. I really recommend going to Woorabinda Camp because it is a thrilling experience and a real confidence booster.
