2 Purpose of the Changes: Central Wisconsin Christian School Proposed By-Law Changes (1) Change our Board member term limits to encourage members to stay beyond three years and facilitate more continuity on the Board as a whole and in officer roles. (2) Clean up some administrative and editorial details that are no longer up to date. Details of the Proposed Changes/Amended Articles: a. Article 5 Section b The general officers shall be elected by the Board of Directors immediately after their annual meetings, and they shall serve for one year two years, or until their successors shall have been named. Officers will now serve for a minimum of two years or until a replacement is found. b. Article 6 Section c Members of the Board of Directors are elected for a term of three years, and, at their discretion and with Board approval, are eligible to be nominated for a second consecutive three-year term to serve additional 1 year terms, in succession. They may serve a maximum total of six consecutive years. After their term expires, they are not eligible for re-election until a lapse of one year. Board terms remain at three years, but members can be nominated to serve additional oneyear terms, up to a maximum of 6 consecutive years rather than the current 3+3 option c. Article 6 Section f The Board of Directors shall nominate qualified individuals, according to the gifts and talents they possess, to fill the requirements of the vacancies left by the retiring board members, maintaining a minimum of 9 members at all times. These nominees would need to be approved at the annual society meeting by a 2/3 margin. Clarify that the Board nominates replacements for those retiring members each year, while maintaining a minimum of 9 members as per Article 6a. d. Article 7 Section a The Annual Meeting shall be amended to read: An annual meeting of the Association for the election of Board of Directors members and the transaction of such other business as may properly come before it shall be set by the Board of Directors during the months of April May-August. Expand the time frame for the Annual Association meeting to April-August to correspond with current practice. e. Article 15 The Association shall schedule a minimum of 180 days of school each school year and school shall meet a minimum of 174 days 1,137 hours of direct instruction each school year. Change school year requirements from days to hours to correspond with current state of Wisconsin requirements.

4 Scott De Young Scott De Young ( 83) and his wife, Gayle ( 83) are from Waupun and attend Living Hope Community Church in Fox Lake. The De Young s have four children, Jessica ( 09), Alyssa ( 10), Derek ( 12), and Makayla (sophomore). Scott is the CFO and owner of Municipal Well & Pump in Waupun, and has served multiple terms on the Steering Team at Living Hope. He has served on the board of Chicago Christian School, the Barnabas Foundation, and currently chairs the Foundation for Christian Schools in Central Wisconsin. Scott previously served as CWC Board Treasurer and also was part of the Leadership Team for the 2010 For Such a Time as This Capital Campaign. At present he is also part of the CWC Girls Basketball coaching staff. We love CWC! The thing we appreciate the most is the fact that our kids are being educated in a way that every subject and activity is centered on keeping the focus on God. An education at CWC is more than getting good grades, good scholarships, succeeding in sports, being good in the arts, or just having fun CWC prepares our kids to succeed in life no matter what path they choose and to do it in a way that glorifies God. I look forward to serving in any way I can to help make CWC successful and to make it a great place for kids to learn and succeed in life with Christ at the center. It s a place that reinforces and builds and what we are teaching our kids at home about a relationship with God and how that affects every area of life. Board Nominee Profiles Eric Miller Eric Miller and his wife, Ann, live in Beaver Dam, where they attend Heartland Church in Sun Prairie. The Millers have five children, Nate ( 11) Ellie ( 13), Katie ( 15), Daniel (junior) and Grace (freshman) all attend CWC. Eric is a native of Waukesha, and is a family physician and Midwest Regional Medical Director for Paladina Health. He currently is the CWC Board President and Advancement Chair. Eric s leadership background includes service as Chief of Staff at Beaver Dam Community Hospital, chair of church Elder Board, and involvement in several professional organizations. I have grown to love the people of this community who work so hard and sacrifice so much to make CWC a reality. Christian education has been a tremendous blessing to my family and we credit it in many ways with the deep spiritual foundation my children have. I have appreciated the way in which they have been challenged academically, socially, and spiritually I also value the breadth of opportunities they ve had at CWC. As they matured I m gratified to see the way they evaluate all of life through the lens of Scripture and their foundation of faith. I ve appreciated my term on the Board and the opportunity and challenge of making our school the best possible place where my children and others can get a top-notch education in a safe, healthy, and faith-infused environment. Steve Smits Steve Smits ( 85) is a life-long resident of the Waupun area. He and his wife Heidi are the parents of daughters Becca ( 11), Breanna ( 14), Lynnae (senior), and Kaytlin (freshman). They attend First CRC in Waupun, where Steve has served as an elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher, Bible study leader, and youth group leader. Steve is a co-owner in Double S Dairy near Markesan, and has served multiple terms on the CWC Board. He has been involved in numerous organizations in the agricultural field, and presently serves on the Board of Directors of Farmers State Bank. We enjoy the opportunity to be a part of our children s education, and can t say enough how much we appreciate the care and concern the teachers show our children. We also appreciate the modern facility and the safety for our kids. Christian education is so important because it reinforces what is taught in our home and assists us in passing on our faith to our children. Larry Van Den Berg Larry Van Den Berg attended CWC for a couple of years while his dad was a pastor in Waupun. He and his wife Amy ( 83) are the parents of six children who are products of a CWC education: Jacob ( 10), Joseph ( 12), Megan ( 15), Melissa (freshman), James (7 th grade), and Sam (4 th grade). The Van Den Berg s attend Grace United Reformed Church, where Larry has served as an elder. Larry is the Information Technology Manager for Excel Engineering in Fond du Lac. He has served Grace URC as deacon, elder, and Clerk of Council, and has served on the CWC Technology and 1:1 Initiative Committees. I view serving on the Board as serving Christ, which we are called to do in whatever area of life he has placed us. Amy and I have always appreciated the Christ-centered schooling that we received and now our kids receive at Central Wisconsin Christian. We view Christ-centered education as the only choice for our children. We consider this an extension of our home, assisting us to train our covenant children. Christ-centered education strengthens our faith and helps to prepare our children for Kingdom service.
