3 The Bounceback Program. This week in our class activities, we are talking about the 3 rd key Bounce Back message Unhelpful thinking makes you feel more upset. Think again. How the way we think about a situation, affects how we feel and then what we do. Unhelpful thinking isn t necessarily true and can mean we give up easily or expect others to do things for us. Helpful thinking makes us feel better and helps us to work out what to do. For example unhelpful thinking is if when we make a mistake, we think I m hopeless, I can t do this. Whereas helpful thinking is I made a mistake but everyone makes mistakes and I can try again During the term we will be using role play and other class activities to assist the students to practice and build competencies in the areas they ve identified. If you would like more information about Bounce Back, or the assistance I can offer to children and families, I can be contacted by phoning or texting me on , or at school on Thursdays Anne Boadle Pastoral Care Worker Works at St. Mary s each Thursday 8.30am 4.30pm. Contact Details: Through the school or by ringing directly on Anne.Boadle@centacareballarat.org.au Contacting the School: Families are invited to contact the office to make an appointment with their child's teacher if they would like to discuss academic progress or an issue. This allows the Class teacher to organise their time. The Office is opened from 8.30am until 4.15pm. Telephone Anne is available to meet with families from 8.00am pm or by appointment at other times. Families are encouraged and requested to contact her regarding issues or queries of concern. Contact details are listed above. Head Lice Check: All families are asked to check each of their children's hair for head lice. Any family requiring information regarding treating head lice are asked to contact the Office. Many thanks to the families for informing the school of their children having head lice. All families are asked to contact the school if this occurs to allow us to notify all Usually head lice impact on more than one student. Term 3 Dates: Friday August 24 th Athletic Sports in Donald Friday August 31 st Father s Day Stall Monday September 3 rd Book Fair commences Thursday September 6 th Feast Day Mass and First Eucharist Monday September 10 th Book Fair finishes Friday September 14 th Assembly Grade 3 & 4 Wednesday September 19 th School Concert Friday September 21 st - Spring Luncheon
4 Book Week: Find Your Treasure Book Week 2018 has been celebrated this week with a variety of activities. Students have read and discussed the Book Week Books, they have participated in a non-stop Read-a-Thon, where a reading chair was placed in a classroom and every student took turns to read in the chair throughout the day. Dave the tiger has had an enjoyable week too, listening to all the wonderful reading. A colouring competition was held, with some outstanding entries. Awards have been given for borrowing from the library and for reading each night at home. Some of the activities that students participated in were creating penguins using moving eyes, cotton wool and cardboard and making sloths with moving legs and then attaching them to tree branches.
5 Congratulations to Nicholas, Lachlan, Cameron, Ben, Texas, Shaine, Kailie, Victory, Jaya, Sophie and Patience on receiving recognition for their continued borrowing from the library. Congratulations to the colouring competition winners who were: Brianna, Geordie, Cameron, Lyric, Patience, Elijah and Ellie.
