I hope you each of you had a very Merry Christmas and a safe New Year s. The New Year marks a time when people stop and reflect on the past year and make decisions about the upcoming year. The decisions made often times take the form of New Year s resolutions. Did you make any new year s resolutions? Statistics show that just over 60% of Americans make New Year s resolutions. Now consider that after the first week, 25% of people have given up on their resolutions. After a month more than a third have given up. It might surprise you that only 8% of people who make resolutions succeed in achieving them. I m sure you can guess the most popular New Years resolution. If you said Lose Weight, you re absolutely correct. Other top resolutions are Getting Organized and Spending Less, Saving More. Some health related resolutions include Staying Fit and Healthy along with Quit Smoking. One of the top ten resolutions I found odd was Fall in Love. A couple of surprise resolutions on the list were Learn Something Exciting and Help Others in Their Dreams. The Optimist Club of Arlington help the youth in our community with these two items through the programs we provide. All that is missing is YOU. We have lots of opportunities to impact the lives of the youth we serve, all you need to do is contact a board member for more information. 2 November 16, 2016 The meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm by Chair Michael Cheves. A quorum was established. David Bayless advised the AISD wanted three additional officers for the parking lot and the field. There will be two inside, with Officer Deary being at the gate. The school will provide one security guard from AISD. Lamar has no booster club wanting to run the concession for Championship Day. Penny, at AISD, is checking to see if we can set up our own concession stand for the day. She will get back with David this week. David suggested we do this. John Palmarchuk said he will run concessions with Cathy. Robbie King said signups have started for baseball. He is not sure how many at this time. He did receive an for using the fields for a softball game for Chase Bank on Dec. 2nd for about three hours. It would start at 3pm in the afternoon. Robbie moved to allow Chase Bank to use the baseball fields on Dec. 2nd and was seconded by Cheryl Erickson. After a brief discussion, the motion was rescinded and decided Robbie would negotiate the price with Chase bank. Robbie asked if we would be interested hosting a tournament earlier next year at Senter Park and at Randol Mill. The Optimist Club would be running the tournament for multiple grade levels. Robbie moved to run a baseball tournament in January for different grade levels. The motion was seconded by Richard Jablon. Passed unanimously. Robbie advised the Fort Worth Optimist Club was wanting to use our fields for their baseball program this year. Robbie is checking on the cost for supplying balls and other costs for the extra games. Michael Cheves read an from the ACA Optimist club regarding the field usage costs for 2016 season. He reviewed the past charges and payments. We will stand by the original decision of the BOD to bill the ACA for the 2016 season s usage, once the invoice is received from the city. The President will reply to the by letting them know this will be presented at the next scheduled Board of Directors meeting. Championship day is this Saturday and we need lots of help. Also, bring a can food for the food drive. We will also need help with the concessions. The 4th grade Bobcats are coming early to help monitor. 3 minutes of the Board of Directors M E E T I N G December 5, 2016 Meeting called to order by President David Bayless at 7:08pm Chaplain Mac Ledbetter led the BOD in prayer. John Palmarchuk moved to accept the minutes as read by Cheryl in absence of Mike, second Don Strother. Approved Cheryl Erickson, Membership Secretary/Treasurer, gave the membership financial report. Kevin Ailara, Youth Account Treasurer, reported Football expenses are still out for trophies, November lights and field usage and Championship Cravens field. He then presented the 990 and the report of finances for the past 4 years. Will get bids from a tree trimming contractor to come out and trim trees at Senter Park. COMMITTEE REPORTS Mac Ledbetter, Newsletter, said articles need to be turned in more quickly. By 12/12. No dinner meeting or YAC on 12/28/16. YAC will meet on 12/14/16 at 8:00pm after dinner meeting. John Palmarchuk, Concessions, reported concession were ok for Championship Day. Thanked Robbie for the CC machine. Thanked everyone that helped this year Kevin Ailara, Oratorical /Essay, stated the contest will be held in late January or February. Richard needs date to reserve the room Charlie McNutt, Orientation, said we will begin having Orientation for new members again starting with Baseball. We will put new member pins on badges for coaches. He will meet with coach individually as they come in to register. Don Strother, Purchasing, No report. Richard Jablon, Respect for Law, said they are getting ready for Santa Cop. Kevin Ailara, Scholarships, No report. Cindy King, Sponsorships, received $50 for Youth Appreciation. Will start working on Baseball sponsors next week. Mac Ledbetter, Teacher of Year, need to order a new plaque. Zina Lawrence, Youth Appreciation, everything was great! Smashing success! Kevin Ailara, 4 th of July Parade, Kevin moved to sponsor the parade again for Second Cheryl. Tom Ware moved to table the motion until January. Motion to table passed. Richard Jablon, Scouts, The Christmas party will be on 12/14/16 at 6:30pm at the Scout House. Scout Master is working to build the scout troop to greater numbers. Currently have 7 members. OCA position on the issue has not changed and we will send the invoice to them with 30 days to pay. David is to respond to their letter. The short answer is that there are two things I wanted to highlight this month. Last month I recognized a few of the Coaches and Teams for their achievements. Now I want to thank the UNSUNG HEROES of the football program for all they did in support of the program. Hopefully I won t forget anyone, and if I do, please forgive me.
