1 Carter County Family and Consumer Sciences Newsletter J u l y - A u g u s t Important Information from You FCS Agent This will be the last newsletter you will receive from me for several months, so please make sure you pay close attention to all the upcoming dates that are included. Mark your calendars! The Carter County Extension Service has a new policy and application to reserve the meeting room. All of the Homemaker clubs and other Family and Consumer Sciences related groups that currently use the building have been contacted. Please know that you cannot reserve the room for any reason without completing an application ahead of time. If you have not done this, you will not be on the calendar. Please stop by the office or call and request a form to reserve the room. We also have a new alarm system. If you are having a meeting after hours, please be sure to discuss how to arm/disarm the alarm with the staff. I have attached the Homemaker Leadership Training flyer and registration. We have changed the format, so only 2 people from each club will need to attend. Your registration will be paid by the office IF you commit to coming back and teaching the lessons to your club. I will send in your payment and registration for you if contact me by JULY 23rd. If you do not confirm with the office, you will be responsible for sending in your own registration. We will also be taking the county van to Paintsville, We will leave the office at 7:45 on Wed. August 1st. We have 8 spots in the van and these are first come, first serve. Please let us know ASAP if you plan on riding the van. Carpooling will be available for additional members. 3 Page 3 Homemaker Annual Meeting You are our Sunshine June 16th Carter Caves Lodge Congratulations to our new officers: President: Judy Lewis Vice President: Starlene Harris Secreatary: Sue Tackett Treasurer: Shirley Carra The Carter County Extension Homemakers held their annual meeting Saturday at Carter Caves. Over 50 members and several guests attended to celebrate a year of service in their communities and county. All 200 members supported Ovarian Cancer Research with donations. Grayson Day Club was awarded with the Membership Increase Award for gaining 5 new members. Emma Jones Received the Homemaker Scholarship. Denton/Willard club was awarded with the Club of the Year Award. The theme of the meeting was "You are our Sunshine", so special "Sunshine" members were recognized by each club. Our sunshines recognized were Dian Ratcliff, Mary Karen Porter, Cherie' Caulley, Helen Lemaster, Grace Brammell, Christine Cooper, Linda Kiser, and Betty Glancy. I would like to thank the committee for all of their hard work! The members were Starlene Harris, Shirley Carra, Melanie Franks, Judy Lewis, Sue Tackett, and Lakyn O Brien. They all did a fabulous job! I d also like to give a special shout out to Shirley Carra for making all of the centerpieces that were the beautiful door prizes! Several members won Blue Ribbons for the cultural arts competition and will compete in the fall at the area meeting.
