2 At The King s School, our educational goals cannot be limited to just competencies, skills and attributes for the intellectual mind but more importantly, we strive to teach not only to the mind, but to the hearts of our students. Spiritual Formation at our school is the gold thread that links all other learning experiences together. Donovan Graham suggests that this formation comes about through being in the presence of God and during this growth process, God communicates to us in a variety of ways. All of them require us to be still, be quiet, pay attention, watch and listen carefully. We as teachers need to provide these opportunities for our students. We must create environments where they can connect what they believe with how they live. There has never been a more pressing time for us as teachers to become intentional about our faith and practice of that faith in our lives. As we practice this intentionality, students will have structured opportunities to eavesdrop on the grammar, vocabulary, habits, virtues, or practices of mature Christian adults. What a challenge to behold! Thankfully, it is not one we face alone. Parents together with the school will partner with God in this process of spiritual formation, and as a community we will build young people who serve God passionately in every walk of life. 5 Winter Sport Tour The Open Teams of The King s School West Rand had their first Sportweni- Tour to Port Shepstone from 6-11 April 2017 and it was a huge success. Selected players of the Boys Hockey, Netball, Soccer and Girls Hockey had the opportunity to learn from national players and coaches in their particular sporting code. Learners from each code were exposed to various skill levels from over 16 schools from all over the country and played them in their particular code. A typical day consisted of a well- balanced breakfast followed by a training session. Lunch was served at Kapenta Bay Hotel which had a spectacular ocean view. As many as 8 matches were played during the course of the 3 days of the clinic. Thank you to all of the managers and coaches who ensured the well-being of each player. A special thank you to each player for being on their best behavior! Coaches and managers from other schools commented on how well behaved our learners are and that The King s School West Rand truly sets a great example to other schools. 7 REQUEST FROM ONS HUIS We are urgently looking for wool and knitting needles to knit blocks for blankets for Mandela Day. The project ends on 12 May and we want to knit as many blocks as possible. If you could help us with wool and needles we would appreciate it a lot. SCHEDULE OF TEACHER AVAILABILITY FOR STUDENT SUPPORT Grade 4-12 Subject teachers will be available on the days and times as indicated on the roster. We would like to encourage learners should they have questions or if they require an explanation about a certain section of work, to make use of the scheduled times.
